I'm a retired professional touring and studio engineer and anyone who says So Hyang can't sing Whitney songs is totally clueless. You should check out her cover of Celine's The Power of Love and also The Prayer. If you want an actual master class in vocals watch her version of "Everyone" I suggest the one with translation but either way it will probably make your eyeballs sweat.
Hi Adam. Great reaction. It's easy to see that you appreciate our beautiful Sohyang. This is MY favorite performance. In it, she is playful, cute, charming, and dramatic, and, of course, flawless in her delivery. Her belt buckle is embossed with the word POWER. I think she has never looked more glamorous, and when she tugged up on that slinky blue gown and slid across the stage like a Blues Singer from a 50's movie, I melted into my chair . . . . There will always be haters and bad apples in fandoms where they think their singers are the greatest and get jealous of other amazing singers. So Hyang does get some hate from few people but she is also so beloved amongst her loyal fans who I think are one of the kindest and gentle ones out there just like our amazing Queen.

I noticed a lot of haters are Filipino commenters who heap hate on Sohyang only because she's at a level well above most of their favorite singers from the Philippines in terms of pitch, range, quality of chest/head/mixed registers, dynamics, breath control, vocal techniques, unique stylization & interpretation, emotional connection, etc. Other haters only like a specific version, such as the original or a popular cover; these folks can't accept any other interpretation. Most haters only accept performances by their favorite artist. I can understand people who may prefer a song sung in a lower pitch, as Sohyang has a higher tessitura. Plus, in her performances in TV competitions, she often changes keys and vocal styles multiple times, rather than maintain one style, such as in the original song.

Oh dear!! I see the Sohyang haters, or as I call them ‘the jealous people’ have managed to infiltrate your comments. You’ll probably find that they are supporters of a certain female singer from the Philippines. The thing with these people is that to say that dislike her voice so much, they spend an awful lot of time watching her video’s 😂. I Thankyou for sticking up for Sohyang but anyone who even the slightest appreciation for great vocals knows already that Sohyang is the last person on earth you want to try pinning the ‘she can’t sing’ tag on because it’s quite simply LUDICROUS!!! Wait until they try telling you that not only is she technically below par but that she also sings with a lack of emotion 😂😂😂. With regard to this performance, I believe it was shortened because of the song she sings immediately preceding this one, one of her own creations, a song called ‘dream’ which ends with a sustained D6 mix followed with a sustained last nite in her head voice. It was so powerful that as she finished she said she nearly lost her balance, which you can see if you let the film run for a few seconds more at the end. I am really enjoying watching you discover this amazing woman, although a little late joining the party 😂, but I know what you’re going through because I went through the same journey & I think that when someone is so special, so gifted, it’s sometimes very hard to put in to words exactly what it is that she’s doing that is having such an effect on you. Yes there’s the appreciation of her technical ability, her emotion & ablility to tell the story, even when in a language you don’t understand, we can point these things out but o think that the thing separates her is that she seems to be able to reach people on a spiritual level, it’s like she has direct access straight to your soul & I think that it is this that we have trouble with putting in to words but I think this is where your viewers who have already been on the Sohyang train before you embarked will know how you are feeling because they felt it too. It is not an over exaggeration to say that this woman can literally sing any genre, although her heart is in gospel, & I can’t wait for you to be blown away by Sohyang the rock goddess or Sohyang the rapper, amongst others. We all have different tastes and you can't please everyone. For me Sohyang is on par with the big ones like Celine, Mariah and Whitney. She's one of the best. C'mon. She started the song on the key where Whiney's modulation went. Degree of difficulty alone makes her vocals a cut above the rest. (My preference is Houston's version but I am in awe of how this arrangement showcased Sohyang's talent. It is on another freakin' level.)
