Washington State is starting a $5K EV rebate in August. If I can get $7,500 Federal credit, $5,000 Washington State, and free FSD transfer this coming quarter, then upgrading to the Model 3 Long Range is a no-brainer for me. Don't know if the deadline on the FSD xfer will make this work, but at least I can get 2 out of 3 of these incentives.

The van makes more sense right now. Think of all the service people that use vans...Huge market.
It's not an accounting work around or it would have been retroactive. The slightly older models (say a month old) do not qualify for the Tax credit.

in the 2024 lineup picture, I theorize the grouping tells us something. The groups seem to be arranged by family/technology or perhaps COGS. So the two sheets on the left are next gen family. Upper left is low-cost sedan, while the lower left is CyberCab. Upper right is ultra high tech Roadster.

I experienced something similar to this while on a trip to nepal.
Of the two covered products that look the same, one is going to be the temporary cyber cab, the other is the $25K car, both using the same platform (Elon and Cathy Wood have both mentioned this). Additionally, Tasha Keeny (from ARK) says their research points to 90% of all cab rides are 2 or less passengers, so it makes little sense to cater to 10% of the market with its own specific design

Sorry, I didn't watch the whole video. Can someone explain how the LR suddenly qualifies? I thought the LR and Performance both use 2170. Also, is Tesla planning to do away with the SR? Who would buy one when the LR is only $1000 more?
Hilarious graphic shows all the cars look almost identical. I disagree that they have variety 😂 there are so many Teslas now on the road, mostly white...i seriously have a had time knowing the model. The 3 and y especially difficult to distinguish. The refresh is too subtle.

Here is what I am thinking currently about buying a tesla. I have a 2012 Audi S5. Nearly 100k miles. I know it will need a rebuilt transmission, timing chains, and motor plastic part replacements in the next year or so. A long range Model 3 at $34,000 still seems expensive, though. Given the parts count and complexity of my current vehicle and its depreciated worth, seems difficult to pay 35k for batteries and electric motors. And software that i am not sure i want involved in my driving. I am an old guy, so give me a break. The Audi is nice, solid, reliable up to now, paid off and familiar. And looks, to me, spectacular. I will go drive a Model 3 at the tesla center here in town and get back to you.
I'm 73 and have owned a Model 3 since 2018. About to trade in for a 2024 Model 3 Long Range. $35K for batteries and batteries? You're paying for performance, reliability, simplicity, and low cost of ownership. Any time I drive an ICE car it just feels antiquated: Stop the car using friction brakes? Fill it up with gasoline? Belts, chains, exhaust system, fuel pumps, fuel injectors, smog system, transmission, car dealers? I don't miss any of that.
Take5th please update us on what you decide! My guess, you'll go with the M3 and never look back :)

Because crossovers are far more popular. And the Model X is really affordable anyway.
They’d need a locally made LFP production line first. As tariffs were quadrupled for batteries from China.

The deposit required to place a preorder was so low, the volume of preorders could not be relied upon as an indicator of sales volume, even if the predicted price and range had been maintained. Cybertruck demand still exceeds Tesla's production capacity at Giga Texas.

I think this is the real game changer.
Obviously there needs to be risk management in terms of high deposits @20% and the car as collateral, for borrowers and high credit score to get this financing.
Typical car finance is not cheap like it was a few yrs ago.

I think if Tesla can do this with a few banks to sindicate a loan book and spread the risks then this is a no brainer.
I think if Tesla can put in $2-3bln and 2 or 3 strategic banks also come in with the same amount then we have a pot of $4-9bln to offer Tesla car financing.

With steer-by-wire, a steering wheel is basically a little clip-on controller with one wiring connection. It's literally that simple to add a steering wheel to the robotaxi design.
On the 2023 image the box shaped ghost car is in the same category as the Cybertruck. That strongly implies a van, not a robotaxi.
And we know from the book that they do work on a 2 seat small car, which was supposed to be the mass produced robotaxi.
Plans could have changed, of course, and they did actually, so anything is possible.
We need an off road 3/Y - small hatchback (VW Golf sized), lifted, 4wd opt with locker, to compete with the Jeep. Short with tires at the edges. Would be SUPER popular. Like crazy popular. Cheaper than 3 or Y (because smaller). Shared components with 3/Y will benefit the entire product line.

I might be in the minority in this, but I don’t want the company I buy my new car from changing up the body style every three years! I don’t want to spend $45,000 on something brand new, but looks like I’m driving an eight track cassette tape around two years later! Keep the body styles as they are long enough for people to enjoy the newness of their purchase!

I own a 2023 Model Y LR AWD and a 2024 Model 3 LR AWD. The Model 3 puts the Model Y to shame.
Why? Just curious. I have a 2021 MYLR.
Y has more room and is easier for older people to get in/out. Y has more clearance for winter.
4 Optimus robots could carry a passenger. (a very light passenger). More robots needed for faster acceleration. Medical stretchers with legs....

He’s completely wrong. Tesla will still have room to make vehicles that are not Robo taxis. All Teslas will eventually have autonomous capabilities, but that does not make them Robo taxis. Robo taxis are probably only convenient enough for 30% of Californians and Californians are probably the most likely to be using Rotaxis behind places like New York
Per the Robo Taxi discussion (i.e. the implication that Robo Taxis are all we will need), please answer the question: How do you address Rush Hour? If your answer is public transportation, how to you get to the train station (in rush hour)? I believe the Robo Taxi TAM is the current UBER/LIFT/conventional taxi revenue stream and not much more.
If it does drastically reduce cost as studies show, then it would likely result in more people opting to just use robotaxi instead of owning a vehicle
For rush hour, you raise the price of the robotaxi trip until you can induce enough of the customers to want to leave 30 min earlier or 30 min later. This would let you get 3x the number of “rush hour” rides from a given fleet of robotaxi (in addition, higher taxi prices will induce more people release their Tesla to the rush hour robotaxi fleet)

I'm not clear on the tax credit. You don't save $7,500 on the Tesla purchase, you get "up to" $7,500 off your income taxes. So you really can't take $7,500 off the price of the Tesla, correct?
The $7,500 can be taken at point of sale, effectively reducing the price of the car. Tesla handles the paperwork, all you have to do is give them some information.

I heard someone saying that from 1/1/2024, you get the $7,500 credit and you don’t do anything with your taxes. I wish Tesla would spell this out and let everyone know.
