I can only think what my dear teacher, Don Butterfield, would have to say about making money-the modern world is beyond me in its preoccupation with money, power, and everyone the person with the answer-of someone actually making money from instructing on how to push down valves. I was a slow lerner though so maybe I’m remembering things all wrong. I had my lesson down in the Orchesra pit at Radio City Music Hall or at his house on Long Island. I paid 6$ a lesson that sometimes went on for hours and then between shows take me to his favorite German Restaurant and spend twice that on a lavish dinner for me. What is it about? Super players in German restaurants? Butter fields, German food consumption with stagger the mind. He could drink two pictures of beer and go back to the musical and play a show the last of the night which started about 930 or something like that. I was one sitting just before he died with Bill Bell, and the regulator Tavern in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was teaching. He told me that his major ambition before he died was to learn German.. well, everyone has a gimmick. have the Barnum and Goebbels Circus running the country. I hope the kids aren’t charged too much for learning how to push these things, and oil them as well. Best wishes.
