Am i the only one who doesn't think death mountain is as hard as everyone says it is? In fact, it's not hard at all. Also, this is a very good game, but it gets way too much hate from Zelda fanboys.
Death Mountain is so easy once you know to always go right and take the elevators down.
I lent my game to my friends brother to get the hammer for me so I could actually get through the rest of the game. Eventually I did it all myself though.
Hell, i think death mountain is a great place to grind levels. Yeah it's a bit tricky (at least w/o the downthrust).
After learning the right way to go so I didn't have to fight more enemies than necessary, then I found Death Mountain pretty easy.
+wilkes85 in my experience its "easy" if you know where to go. but if you dont, its very hard ^^
the best area to farm is outside the hidden village there's 2 lizards each time each worth 150 and a total of 300 you can get a lot quickly.
Another reason the hidden town area is such a good grinding area is that you are practicing against lizalfos's before heading towards the final palace, where there are a bunch of lizalfos's on your way that you HAVE to fight without being able to use a jump attack.
22:20 you can make that jump w/o jump spell. And the orange cretures dropping the flame show you where the hole is because it falls through. And you can't use fairy because of the blocks you need the sword for.
Pro Tip: If you go all the way to the left just before the fight with Thunderbird, you can stab the blocks there to make either a Red Bird or a red magic vial appear. That way you don't have to die to the boss just to fill you life and magic again.
farming : doing the same event chains over and over for materials(new weps, armor, items)
grinding: killing the same enemies over and over to level up.

Thunderbird is one of the coolest bosses in gaming history. Damn that thing looks badass.
The most underrated Zelda game is 'Link's Awakening' for GameBoy. It's amazing, and is a complete Zelda game, with less content than 'A Link to the Past', but still amazing.
rocks can be defended with your shield whereas fireballs cannot (according to the manual). so that's how you can determine whether those guys are throwing rocks or fireballs
Best grinding spot is the forest area to the left of Hidden Town Kasuto, way faster than killing spiders in the Nabooru area.
I love this game. I have had it since 1987 and my method of playing the game is different from what I have seen from other gamers.
I am an old school gamer and I was there when grinding and farming terms came out and know the difference between the two.

I literally had to map the last level in my mind when I was a kid playing this game. It worked so well I have never forgotten it. I can't remember the layout of any other level in this game, except the last one.
1:47:35 - They give you a key when you kill all bosses/minibosses because that's the mechanism the game uses to unlock the screen scrolling. So while you don't need the key, it's just the ready-made solution to let you progress to the next screen.
Farming is for items. Grinding is for stats/XP. As for where they came from, probably MMOs, maybe Everquest if not sooner.
Here is the secret to killing those eagle knights.
1) Block there sword attacks and do not attempt to attack them. They move too quickly for you to attack and defend at the same time.
2) Eventually they will try to jump on top of you. That is when you up attack on them. They will be bounced back.
3) Return to Step 1.
Use that pattern and they go down like punk bitches.

The final palace theme, part of it reminds me of when you fight Wart in SMB2.
I don't understand why he spends so much time "farming" or whatever and then when he's in the final dungeon, rather than patiently properly fighting the monsters, he runs through them and takes 2 or 3 hits and doesn't even kill anything other than the easiest enemies.
+syxx573 He doesn't know how to fight anything without taking a million hits. The blue ironknuckles are easy. The blue lizardmen are easy. The blue eagle warrior aren't too bad either. Mike just panics and starts mashing buttons.

+JAKECUB100 The blue ironknuckes throw their swords slowly until you hit them, then they rage for a few seconds. Wait until they calm down to attack again. They back away when you get close so if you're patient it's pretty easy to beat them without taking a hit.

At the end I was hoping you would say, "Not for the faint of heart but that doesn't mean it's not awesome".
The place I level up at the end is in south forest with the orange dinosaurs in armor. Not sure but I think it's 150 points by enemy X2 by screen.
Turtles Forever had a giant Shredder.

Thunderbird is the hardest part of the game. Felt a real sense of accomplishment when I beat this as a kid.
If you kill the unicorn heads, they stop for a while.
Dude funcoland! Your 8 years older than me but I remember being a kid and looking in that funco land "news paper" and highlighting all the games I wanted. They were only 50c-$2.50 lol. I walked out of there with mad shit as a 8-10 year old kid. I could t believe how under valued everything was. Even though I loved my n64 I always appreciated the nes.

I love the style of Zelda 2 with side-scrolling gameplay combined with an overworld map that makes the world feel more real. I wish you'd play Gargoyles Quest 2!

Just stumbled on this today. Always use reflect against the mace throwers and ghosts. Not only does it save you hassle but its easy exp farm as well. On top of that every 5th kill drops a red potion or P-bag.

When we played this game as kids we called the guys on the fense Wilson also.
The dragon is actually "Volvagia" (same as Ocarina), but NoA badly butchered the translation on this one. It was corrected on the GBA version.
"Barba" should be familiar with anyone who played Ocarina of Time. Zelda 2 just suffered from "blind idiot" translation. In Japanese, it was called バルバジア (barubajia). OOT retranslated the name to the more accurate to the Japanese "Volvagia". That fight was intended to be a callback to the Zelda 2 boss. Unfortunately, English speaking audiences totally missed the reference due to Zelda 2's awful translation. In Japanese they have the exact same name. The only difference being OOT added 灼熱穴居竜 to the beginning of the name, which roughly translates as Scorching Hot Cave-Dwelling Dragon. Just as the English version added Subterranean Lava Dragon.
It is random whether you get a red potion or a red enemy from a statue. If you get the enemy and do not kill it, you can leave the screen and try again.
Super shredder was in TMNT the 2nd live action movie, in 1990, I think.
I don't understand why people find this game so hard. Mike is STRUGGLING on the blue knights and the skull balls. You just have to be patient and be deliberate. This is NES, so you can't just rush. Block the knives and then attack.
Mike definitely has skill in this game but I can not get over how much trouble he has with shielded enemies.
Mike, with the Blue birds things and the blocks all you have to do is use jump and cut a path up high. You were down thrusting once you got up there which sent you all the way back to the bottom of that wall of blocks.
Looks like the trick to fight Hades in battle of Olympus except other way around

I would love to see a playthrough of one of my favourite nes-games , here in Sweden it name was STREET GANGS !! A very fun and cool game , the caracters looked like the players in World cup....and when you hit the enemies they Eyes poped out , it looked so funny.....
The only real hard part about beating the final dungeon is the thunderchicken. Dark link is easy with the duck and slash method. I have no qualms about cheesing that boss.
Mike please do a livestream of Tomba on PSX. It's a fun game to play and there is much for us to see/help throughout the game.

the lizard men and knights are incredibly easy to take out in this game. You have to jump and hit them in the head. Once you get the timing down you will blow through them.

Did you ever play Lunar: The Silver Star on Sega CD? (or any of the re-releases?) I really enjoyed the game, and enjoyed the writing. I never finished it though because I was really busy at the time and I needed to grind up some levels. I guess it would be too long to live stream though, since the game is about 25 hours.

The only problem I had with Zelda 2 was Death Mountain.. I've never been able to get past it, but I really like it I wish they would remake it for Switch
you should grind near the hidden city in the forest. if I remember correctly it's 200 experience per kill instead of 50.
