First time I saw him was in 81. He was the first open-handed drummer I'd seen. Then I saw them again in Scottsdale a couple years ago...same line up except for Alan Zavod. Rayford was so strong in his hands. He would barely move and this huge sound would come out like he was killing the drums.
When being a good musician MEANT everything to us! Seen this show in Van at 16! What a dazzling/dizzying branding of the soul this was! lt turned my blood paisley and is now the backdrop and wallpaper to my young life! NO REGRETS!
WOW 30 something years later seen these amazing quintessential humans play back in the 80's. RIP Mr. Zavod. What a wonder to know others here appreciate this kind of music, glad to had read your folks post.
I was blessed to meet him in Merrillville Indiana. And he was kind enough to give me an 8x10 and sign all my best to Sad not to many stellar shows, concerts anymore. Real, Real Musicians. Talk about soul music
Zavod has the DREAM MACHINE instrument setup! Acoustic & Yamaha CP-30 Electric Pianos, ARP 2600, ARP Omni, Oberhiem SEM 8-Voice, Roland Vocoder, What an Orchestra of expression! Amazing band amazing composition!
I remember seeing this decades ago on TV, and it lead me to buying Mystical Adventures. Needless to say, I bought all his other stuff. This is still my favorite.
Mystical Adventures....my favourite song (suite) all 19 minutes of it.....and my favourite album. So glad I got to see them on tour when they were promoting Mystical Adventures!!!!!!! Always surrounded with great musicians, great melodies he writes. All the elements are there.
I had the luxury of watching him and his bands perform LIVE in New Haven Ct / sevral Times...at Toad's Place and the Shubert...two differnet venues / on warmer and intimate , the second a theatre , and he was amazing.... was a while ago...3 encores to standing ovations.....possibly the best show of my LIFE !!! Jean- Luc !!!! and his bands were TIGHT !!!
wow, I think I actually saw this tour when I was in high school. It was an amazing experience. And I too remember best of all from the concert-the drummer.
This is a classic! When BETonJAZZ had a cluethey would play this all the time. They would also play UZEB and Weather Report with Peter Erskine. Every drummer should get hip to Rayford Griffin! Isn't this the Montreal Jazz Festival.
Yes! JLP is the best!! I just love this guy...saw him so many times in concert ...and my favorite band he put together included Rayford on the drums...man he does some cool stuff, especially coming from the left side as a right handed drummer...cool stuff, listen to 4:45...great fill!
Not gay at all. It makes you wanna cry when you stop to think that there are not enough young musicians capable of rising to these heights to bring another wave of masters of their respective instruments for the next couple of generations for music.
at this times they use "harp odissey" "harps omini" "harp avatar" and others keybords. We will never see this again ! great time great years jean luc always been an experimentalist and inovator he is the THE!
Just curious. Is Keith Jones the same bassist who layed down the licks for Kit Walker's (Dancing on the edge of the world) cd? Great clip by the way, and Rayford is the shizzznit!!!
I think Rayford Griffin is one of the greatest drummers of all time!

Jean Luc's music seriously sends chills throughout my body. I never get tired of hearing his compositions...
Back in 1978 I purchased a stereo system for $ 2000.00 and played this vinyl after me and my buddies did 5 bong hits each. Awesome album.
That’s a pricy system for 78’. Sounds like a good time. 👍
I've been listening to Jon Luc ever since I was a young teenager, I'm now 66 years old and still love the man.
I just pulled out the Mystical Voyage LP and I’m getting chills again! He’s one of my all-time favorite fusion artists.
Saw him in Settle, Wa. some time back. took me a few days to come down. The energy off the charts.
Me too! Saw him at the Paramount in the late 1980's. Awesome stuff!

I am no surprise
I saw him at the Wiltern theater, Los Angeles in the 90's, one of my two favorite violin players......A MASTER MUSICIAN!!!
Have listened to Jean Luc since he started, even when he was with Zappa. Love it and always will. Beautiful. Real music.
You were way ahead of your time I guess you channeled your inner back to the future since this album didn’t come out till 1981

I was a freshman in college when I first started getting into his music. Imaginary Voyage was the one that did it for me !

I think this is the tour I saw in Columbus, OH. I got autographs of the whole band....
why didn't American Idol judge Randy Jackson do this gig? he was the original bassist. This album won a Grammy
R.I.P. Allan Zavod !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantástico
fenominal ,músico completo fino

incomparable.
Agreed!
Didnt a young Randy Jackson play bass on the studio album???
Álbum muito bom com participação do brasileiro Paulinho da Costa - percussionista.
Not gay at all. It makes you wanna cry when you stop to think that there are not enough young musicians capable of rising to these heights to bring another wave of masters of their respective instruments for the next couple of generations for music.
ah c trop beau...

Just curious. Is Keith Jones the same bassist who layed down the licks for Kit Walker's (Dancing on the edge of the world) cd? Great clip by the way, and Rayford is the shizzznit!!!
Best composer of our times. He's another Mozart. or Beethoven.
Id throw in C Corea and K Emerson as well
je redécouvre PONTY: beaucoup de trés bonnes choses. Du niveau du meilleur Mahavishnu, Weather Report, Lifetime
maybe his progressive epic 's masterpiece
I already beat you to it.....back in the 70's LOL
I write any sheet music
i don't think so. it looks like he's standing. it's just really dark. i understand why you think that though.
Hi booboo! 💗💗💗
Кто здесь после "Перевала Мурурина"?
didnt zavod play with zappa
Yes, in 1984.
is the keyboard guy on a wheel chair??
Zavod is a heavyweight, but where is Frank Gravis, one of the greatest bassists ?
почему русские не пишут это класс
too bad randy jackson isnt live here
Jean-Luc Ponty's music has always sounded to me like what Mahavishnu Orchestra could have done, if their egos hadn't cut the magic off.
Nope he's not. 2:16 - 2:28
Where are you mr. Ponte are you too frightened to speak out against the war? Unless you're dead of course then we'll forgive you
I write any sheet music
