What kind of world are we living in when Israel has to defend its right to defend itself from a clearly vicious terrorist organization to a disgusting failed state like South Africa., who’s best days are long gone. I visited South Africa last year and was struck by how beautiful a country it was but ruined by corruption and failed policies. Never could understand how an occupying force can have a right to self defense
As an Israeli who (like many) struggles AGAINST the occupation of the West Bank and the semi-occupation of Gaza until October the 6th, 2023), I believe that an occupying country does have the right of self defense when its citizens are targeted by militants/terrorists of the occupied side, let alone when such attacks are not exercised on the occupied land but in the sovereign land of the occupying party. Further, when such attacks on civilians are genocidal in their nature, including slaughter, rape and mutilation, acts which in this case were not only cruelly perpetuated, but are compatible with HAMAS’ official ideology, even implied by it, then the right of self defense becomes an obligation to self defend.
