    I just took apart my dad's old to make it my daughter's new. Thanks so much for the video. We're on to installing windows on the new drive after a quick watch.

    I was thinking of buying 5767 but decided replacing the hdd was far too fiddly, and all that plastic needed too much care. I need it to be easier than that. Your video was very helpful in reaching that decision.

    Many thanks for putting this demonstration together. The comments also have been useful to me. I was only looking to add more DRAM. The three screws in the DVD drive bay were my downfall (Dell had only put two in !). I could not remove them at all. I am now going out in search of one of the screw drivers recommended below.

      Those dvd drive section screws tend to be tiny and need a "jewelers" type screwdriver. Especially fiddly on old Sony VAIO laptops.

    Thanks for the video. I couldn't get the 3 small screws in the DVD drive bay out even with the smallest of screw drivers. I ended up drilling them. Also, if you change the fan, be careful of the power switch ribbon cable that runs under the fan assembly. This can pop out very easily by mistake and will then require the lifting of the mother board to clip it back in. The fan assembly is connected to the CPU heat sink and will therefore also require some thermal paste when putting it back.

    I've been looking everywhere to find a screwdriver online that will work on the screws for the drive bay. I heard it requires an M2X2 big head screwdriver but I haven't been able to find any of them online! Do you know where I could find them at some sort of link or something?

      Not sure if it is the best one to use but I used:

    Great video! Have you heard of any fan problems with this model? My fan has been making an abhorrently loud noise lately! Any tips on fan replacements or good fan upgrades? Thanks!

    • @freename

      8:02 you can see the fan top middle. I expect it is as simple as unscrewing the one screw at the bottom middle (although look for any other around its edge that I can't see in the video) and unplugging the lead that goes into the motherboard. Then lift out the fan, buy a replacement on eBay and put the new one in. I expect that only the fan should need to come out with no need to take off the heat pipe and radiator.
      No known specific problems with the fans in these but any laptop can suffer fan problems and regularly do.

    3:30 where you say you need a very small screwdriver for the 3 small screws. my laptop is also inspiron 17 5767 but refurbished, I guess. those screws are not there. the screws on the sides are lacking and in the middle, where the middle screw should be, there is something i don't know what it is, as if it's sealed so that no one can open the laptop. do you have any ideas? when i try to separate the bottom plastic i see that it's still attached although there is no screw there. i can send you a pic.

      If you have a model without the DVD drive you probably don't have those wide, flat screws with a tiny head. It is likely quiet difficult to help over the internet (and slow for me to reply).. but you can post a photo to a photo sharing site and then send the link here and I can see if I have any ideas.

    Regarding a.c power ribbon connection, how would you know when it's fully seated before I can lock the latch?

    • @freename
      @freename  2 роки тому +1

      Sometimes they have a line on the ribbon, otherwise you just have to make sure it feels secure and has hit the end of the connector. Difficult to describe.

    can you put the hard drive you removed where the dvd drive goes?

    • @freename
      @freename  4 роки тому

      Sometimes laptops work with dvd to hard disk converters. Give it a go but make sure you get the converter from somewhere with s good returns policy if it doesn't work.

    Hey, what kind of SATA type ssd do I need? It seems smaller than normal SATA

    • @freename
      @freename  3 роки тому

      A "Laptop Thin" 2.5" HDD should do. All SSDs I've seen are "laptop thin". Same dimensions on the length and width but the height is thinner than the original SATA and PATA laptop hard disks.
