    Hey! My name is Andrew. I'm the dude in the video. My board has changed quite a bit from when I did this video, but I think i was running an Eventide Delay into a deluxe memory man, with an RV-5. I hope that helps! I need to do another video explaining the shapes. Maybe we will do that in the next few weeks. Sorry for the delay in response!

    Honestly I clicked just to hear the goldtop. Good point about cutting bass frequencies out of your pad-work on a guitar. From there the right pedals can make you sound like a dialed-in Jupiter 8!

    Had to cut my pedal board down a bit because we have a pads player now which makes it cancel out if i try to swell. I do more leads now.

    Great tutorial, brother! I am a worship leader and guitarist from Togo (West Africa) and this is really helpful. I am just getting into effects. I have a Line 6 POD 2, but it doesn't seem really flexible in terms of effects. What pedals (delay, volume, etc.) would you recommend I invest in to have that kind of sound for creating textures? Thanks.

    Hey great vid! Are you using a Compressor/sustainer? I find it's key in creating a nice thick ambient sound.

    @A R D C A and Jean-Luc Thomas: From what I can see, it looks like he has a Barber Direct Drive, EHX Micro POG, Ibanez TS9, Mad Professor Sweet Honey overdrive, EHX Deluxe Memory Man, Boss TU2, Eventide Modfactor, Boss RV5, and Strymon Blue Sky. I would imagine there's an Ernie Ball volume pedal in there, and the pedals he used during the video would probably be one of the reverbs, a delay, and the volume pedal.

    He press 5 times switches :
    . the Strymon bluesky reverb
    . the Boss RV5 reverb
    . the eventide delay
    . the Micro pog octaver is activated to add unisson effect
    The last i dunno. Could be an amp switch, or maybe an additionnal switch on a pedal like the repeat switch on the eventide.

    • @tuber5007
      @tuber5007 10 років тому

      Joe, work on using your pinky on your volume knob like he talks about. The Strat is the best possible guitar for that. And then look at using a longer delay and maybe a little chorus or a little trem or such. Good luck w the Syrups this summer.

    I cant see what strings and frets you play for the B major down around the 7th fret. Can you list them? Are you just doing the F shap bar chord there without the top 3 strings??

    Maybe what sounds off is the fact that he's using reverb in an echo filled place. you should record someplace else

    It is very easy to achieve this.... i will just let my Keyboard player do this. Waaay more authentic then I can focus on my real guitar worship playing.
    Modern worship is now over rated. I know a Church that they only use their Choir's voices when they Worship.... you do not need a fancy guitar setup to Worship Our Lord.
    Just my 2c

    But with the right technique and skill, you don't even need a lot of effects for ethereal/textural/pad-like guitar tones. Its all in the fingers and volume knob control. Check out players like Roy Buchanan or a Jim Campilongo. Whole they're technically "secular," you can hear God-given talent and hard work paying off in their instrumentals. However, even with all the skill in the world, effects pedals do help with these tones. Synthesizers use many different ASDR settings, other filters, modulation, and other effects for pads, guitars benefit from these as well.

    while the LP is amazing i dont see how it would work in modern worship, being such a dark sounding guitar. i know that's why i got a tele. its the American deluxe(2012) with the s1 switch in 2nd position which i used at home but in a band i had to use the bridge pick up all the way to cut through

    • @rgv2006tx

      Matthew McCoy that's what I thought too but this guy is getting a great worship tone. This is actually the first
      Time I see a Gibson in any worship. I was always hesitant in using a Gibson but I still went ahead and bought a 60s tribute Gibson les Paul with p90s it was too beautiful to pass up. 😆

      I rotate between a LP jr and a SG. It works well if you set your amp correctly. I sounds better than you think lol

    Pretty sure he's playing this song in B, and not in E, as he says in the video.

    • @DiegoHEduardo
      @DiegoHEduardo 10 років тому +4

      Its in E. The first note of the song is not ALWAYS the key of the song.

    • @TunableTech
      @TunableTech 10 років тому

      Diego Eduardo You're right about the first note of the song not necessarily being the root, but in this case, it is. You have to listen to the vocal melody; it's based on a B Major scale. Singing that melody in the key of E would be horrible; there would be tons of dissonant notes, etc.
      The first chord (B) is the 1, then F#m is the m5, A is the b7, and E is the 4.

    • @greghill7242

    • @JeremyMonteleone

      Tunable Tech But in B, the F# would be major, not minor

    • @RobertDavisAdman

      ***** Capo on the fourth fret is in E. Third fret would of course be Bb which is how we are playing it in my church.
      Chord progression for the chorus is Am7, F2, C, G, for the verse it is F, C, F, C, F, Am, G
      Hope that helps.

    As a long time electric player I tend to prefer a guitar sounding like a guitar. Is this the new and up coming trend?? What ever happened to keyboard players doing swells and effects?? Seems we have lost the purpose of an electric guitar..... That poor Les Paul is dying to be rocked.

    So WHAT is the point to this. You play your strings and you do your swells and that makes the Holy Spirit pay attention more?

  • @skubee23
    @skubee23 9 років тому

    Yawn guys learn your scales and it's possible to do worship without effects. Too many times I run into dudes that have a ton of pedals, but musically they suck. They only a handful of chord and the rest is them hiding behind a bunch of effects.

    • @TheAndrew403
      @TheAndrew403 9 років тому +1

      Lol true. Learn your scales then you won't have to pluck the notes before you play them. But peddles do add an effect and when the Spirit of God starts to move the attitude of the song, how you play it, how you strum, what effects you are using can stir the Holy Spirit and the people. It can do good or you can just screw it up :) Hahaha. But guitar peddles add different tonality, flavor, and more dynamics. This is the new age, not 1940's :)
