For Clayface dying in the Lazarus Pit:
The pit’s chemicals can restore a dying person, but will kill a healthy/living person.
Although Clayface wasn’t exactly “healthy” by most standards, he was still very much alive when he fell into the pit. He would have to already be dying before entering it for the chemicals to restore him.
if im not mistaken, wouldn't the pit also cure his deformity and return him back to normal?

I believe Shara Ishvalda from MH Iceborn can fit into the list :
- He has a rocky outer shell
- He can manipulate and even liquify the ground with vibrations
- His attacks in his first form causes the Arena to change due to the sheer power
- He shares many characteristics with underground creatures
Bonus: Like Dirge, he has got those spooky eyes
Technically it's an optical illusion that only gives the impression he's always looking at the player, but nevertheless, spine chilling

In the Iceborne story, Shara Ishvalda is also responsible for creating seismic actions aka earthquakes; causing various monsters and fellow elder dragons to wake up and cause Mayham

Earth can be a surprisingly good weapon if utilized correctly, it’s more deep than just throwing rocks.
Unless you are the live action Avatar The Last Airbender movie but the less said about that abomination the better.

Agreed. Velocity trumps mass. I want to see and earth themed sniper character who shoots pebbles like bullets. Or maybe flint tipped arrows. Hiding under the dirt only to pop out and shoot.

Sandman- By "under the radar", you mean "trapped in a vial in a backpack at the top of Avengers Tower".
josh should do a list of traumatized bosses, bosses who are driven to do what they do cause of some moment in life that left them scarred and broken, unable to think clearly or maybe their original personality died due to it.
some examples... baldur from GoW, sephiroth... and we all know who'd be #1... kefka.

in fairness to clayface, by the time you square up against batman, turning into something doesn't really help anymore, and brute force was, depending on the iteration, always in his kit. besides his ability to disguise he was also supposedly only middling on legitimate acting.
on Zaganaga, i have handled an industrial sandblaster before, that would have peeled link to the bone.
Man, my boy Cragalanche kinda got done dirty here. An explosive rock boss from Kid Icarus: Uprising serving under Viridi as one of the commanders for the Forces of Nature, he has a rock-solid set of attacks, from burrowing under the earth, firing rock projectiles, and literally shooting himself towards you.
Definitely someone you had to be on your toes for, and the classic KI:U dialogue adds that cherry on top to this pretty nice boss. Kinda wish he got an honorable mention at least, but oh well.
Shara Ishvalda, the Elder dragon at the heart of Monster Hunter Iceborn’s story.
Starting out covered in a rocky outer shell of armor, what lies within is a tree like dragon with power over sound. Shara ishvalda uses its sonic prowess to basically earthbend, pulverizing the arena floor into quicksand and turning the Mountian the fight takes place in into a crater. In monster hunter, the strongest Elder Dragons are akin to incarnate forces of nature, and Shara Ishvalda is a living earthquake.

I'll be honest, I feel like Sand should have had a separate list from Earth. Maybe a Rock and Sand List to separate down the line?
The Arkham encounter with him was awesome, but when it comes to Clayface, nothing tops what they're doing with him in the Suicide Squad Isekai.

*Shara Ishvalda - Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
-What looks like a giant stone monster is actually just a rocky shell. When said armor falls off, it reveals it's true form and the 2nd phase begins. It's able to turn the ground into quicksand that slows you down, which Shara Ishvalda is able to combo with it's ability to fire seismic beams from its wingtips. And if a seismic beam pr it's wingtips hit a patch of quicksand, said quicksand will explode. And as if that wasn't enough, it can throw a seismic spirit bomb that covers most of the arena.

About the earth dragon, you could say that the fire represent magma, the laser is made of light so it represent crystal (think of prism) and for the electric attack it could represent the crystal know as lithium. When you think about it, earth as an element has a lot of potential.
Tremor in Mortal Kombat X is my go to example of this.

For October's list you should add the Deer God (from Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion) to the list. He can go through walls, float, teleport through dimensions and has both an entertaining kill screen and a fun soundtrack.

In the first Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm game, the Shukaku fight absolutely delivers
Honestly, I was expecting Shara Ishvalda from Monster Hunter Iceborne even if as an Honorable mention, sadden he didn't make the list. He starts the fight covered in rock amor, is a living Earthquake, his attacks shape the arena and if you subscribe to online theories regarding him and Safi'Jiiva in relation to the tale of the Five then Shara Ishvalda is supposed to be the Dragon of Mountains.
He's finally done the avatar elements of boss lists, he had already done fire, water and air (in the form of wind bosses)
The titan fights in final fantasy 16 were epic

King Of Thieves was such a great movie.
Ras Al Ghul in The Animated Series stated in The Demon's Head (Part 1 or 2 i forget) that the Lazarus Pit can save the live of someone near death, but it will take the life of someone healthy.
I am happy that Sandman in Insomnia Spider Man 2 is on the list, but I also think Sandman in Spider Man Shattered Dimensions is also a worthy candidate. In that game, with the fragment of the Tablet of Order and Chaos in hand, Marko has become powerful. Too powerful, in fact, as he became a sand hurricane, and as his consciousness has spread too thin, multiple faces formed, arguing with conflicting thoughts to each other until one of them tells the others to be quiet. Spider-Man can cling to the flying debris in the sand hurricane, but to damage him, just grab some water barrels and yeet them to Sandman's face and beat him up. Defeat him, and the fragment is yours.
Fun fact about Mole Knight, he appears in the prequel game, Shovel Knight Dig, looking much different than he does now. Before donning his flaming armor, Mole Knight once wore an aquatic suit and was one of the Hexcavators alongside the likes of Tinker Knight and Drill Knight. During the true ending of the game, Mole Knight decided to switch from a watery diver to a fiery excavator, jumping in the lava from Smeltworks.

For Sandman.ExE for battle network for those who don't know. As seen in the entry you can use water based chips to keep him in place but you can also use electric type chips on him to double the damage too and he'll be stunned too.

I swear if there was a good Avatar video game, Avatar Kyoshi would make for a perfect Earth Boss.
But for this list I'm thinking of Thardus from Metroid Prime, Sandman from Spider-Man 2 and Bouldergeist from Super Mario Galaxy.
A good Avatar game would honestly be pretty sweet.

There are four Clayfaces. The one most people are familiar with is Matt Hagen from BTAS. Heck, when talking about Basil Karlo, Joshscorcher uses some of Matt Hagen’s comic book origin! You think he knows that Basil Karlo didn’t submerge himself into radioactive stuff that turned him into Clayface unlike Matt Hagen.
The second fight for Number 10 was so hard for me as a child. Glad to hear it was meant to be a challenge. I hope to complete that game some day.

I know Genshin Impact is definitely the type of game that Josh doesn't seem to like to talk about, but Azhdaha.
Here's a fun bit of DC Comics trivia, in the Young Justice comics made to tie into the show they changed Clayface's origin. In the Young Justice universe he's a member of the League of Assassins who has a relationship with Talia Al Ghul but when he gets a terminal cancer diagnosis he asks Talia to let him use the Lazarus Pit so he can get cured and they can have a longer relationship. But when he gets in the Pit, Talia closes the lid and locks it leaving him to die, a few months later Ra's needs to use the Pit after falling off a rocket launch pad, but after he uses it Clayface emerges which shocks the group watching the Pit since they had no idea it did that if you spent so much time in it.

I personally found the final fight against Kraven where you play as Venom to be an easier fight in Spider-Man 2.
I feel like the Crystal Guardian would've been a good Honorable Mention, if not a lower entry. It uses its crystalline body to refract the light of the Radiance into lasers, and it can use the crystals in its boss room to fire the lasers at you from different angles.
Sell the house? I'd burn it to the ground.
Now that WAS A EARTH SHATTERING LIST , about half the bosses I played : Bouldergiest, Clayface, Desertman , Lexaeus, SANDMAN .
This list left no stone unturned, andI WONT GRAVEL ANYMORE … …. … yeah I love puns too
Hey, nice video josh! Very much agree with most picks, ESPECIALLY number 1. I'm likely not gonna be seen by anyone anyways, but whatever, here's a few of my picks:
* Azdaha (genshin impact): Defnetly an interesting and cinematic fight, with the usual highlight of genshin's weekly bosses: A killer soundtrack! Though, he loses points, because his more impressive attacks happen to be the ones where he deviates from the earth theme. Special mention to the game's 2 other earth bosses, Golden Wolflord and Geo Hypostasis, for using the theme in different ways including sandstorms and seismic shockwaves, respectively.
* Successor of the Throat (code vein): the last successor fight, and it delivers on everything those end up being - difficult, but not to bullsh!t levels, a fun fight, and PARTICULARLY emotionally charged (you'll learn what I mean if you ever play it). The fact she deals physical damage makes her interesting, as the other successors had multiple elements for you to prepare for, while she doesn't have any you can defend against, and her ability to inflict leak (essentially steady mana drain) makes her one giant threat, even to melee builds.
* Astra Rahu & Ketu (giga wrecker): Nice design and fight, and stands at a point where the story starts to take some turns; but, unfortunately, aside from being a tunneling mechanical sandworm that can spit flaming boulders, the earth element isn't really used much.
Still, I appreciate the work you've done and am very much looking forward to october's content!

I don't exacty know what chain of associations led me from this video to my thought, but Industry Bosses might make an interesting future countdown. Baddies and opponents fighting with industrial machinery, processing equipment, all sorts of heavy metal and brutal fire; bonus points if the fight thematically reflects the impersonal, amoral nature of the chase for efficiency and production inherent in industry. Heisenberg from RE:Village, Chairman Drek from Ratchet&Clanck, many Blackrock Foundry bosses in WoW...
Fun fact about Clayface: Basil Karlo isn’t the Only Clayface there’s Matt Hagen, Preston Payne, Sondra Fuller, Cassius Payne, Todd Russell, Josh Williams, and Ethan Bennett
Joshscorcher shows some of Matt Hagen’s comic book origin when he explains Basil Karlo. You think that because he has the Joker as his UA-camr icon, he would know that Basil Karlo didn’t submerge himself into what turned Matt Hagen into Clayface.
Hell yeah for FF16 Titan sitting on the summit of Countdown Mountain, and yes, my PS5 too was starting to go into Jet Engine mode during the extra high intensity of the game
if someone who is already alive and well falls into the lazarus pit, the chemicals of the pit basically destroy the current body in order to heal and create a new one (usually), for humans, this would be very bad, for someone like clayface, it would actually heal his deformity and return him back to normal (theoretically).
I swear that you were going to mention Dohalim from Tales of Arise, that guy was a really tough Earth Boss. I died like 3 times fighting him
I figured some Megaman boss had to show up. The original has several, such as Jewel “best shield in the series” Man, and technically Guts Man, since his attack is “I threw a _rock_ at him! It was a big rock…”
Oddly enough, the guy named _Ground_ Man isn’t earth themed; his weapon is blade-type (a drill).
I enjoy the clayface song that was funny and then I love the part where you tried to pronounce the cactus boss fight name from legend of Zelda Link between worlds and you said Ziggy stardust and then Markiplier "did I have a stroke!?"

I do admit I saw Titan Lost coming to be in this list given how massive and awesome his fight but I do love fighting Titan in Final Fantasy XV as well, especially with how Noctis is fighting a massive giant on his own and it’s awesome. 😊
I didn't expect Bouldergeist to be on the list due to being on the thumbnail of the video.
I wish to give an Honorable mention--the Earth Elemental from Quest for Glory II: Trial By Fire--that one has a different solution for each of the character classes. The Fire Elemental and Water Elemental (the first and last, respectively) are all dealt with the same way. The Air Elemental (the second one) has a tiny bit of variation, depending on your character class, but still more or less dealt with the same. But it's the third one, the aforementioned Earth Elemental, that has a different solution depending on whether you're Fighter, Magician, or Thief.

I just wish that the Ghostly Galaxy had actual Luigi's Mansion enemies in addition to the Boos and Bouldergeist, you know, to go along with the obvious reference "Luigi and the Haunted Mansion".
I came to see if Hugo Kupka/Titan was in this list, and so I’m immensely glad that he ended up as #1 like he rightfully deserved. Definitely one of the best and most badass boss fights in a recent RPG, hands down.
Now there are only a few elemental themes left. Including: Metal/Tech, Undead, Magic, Moon, Light and Darkness. Any suggestions?
Yes to all of these. Though magic might be too broad. Maybe wizard or sorcerer Bosses?
@@drewgilbertson But in some franchises, like Skylanders, they consider magic as one of the elements. And there are bosses that could fit like that, not only wizards and sorceres, but also deities, legendary monsters, literal gods of magic, etc. Like Mysterio from Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, in that version he uses real magic on the epic battle between the Spiders and the Master of Illusion 2.0.
Sun, star, plants, and gravity
For Mech, there’s the mechanical bosses from Terraria; for undead (if this counts necromancers), there's Castle Crashers' Necromancer and Skullgirls' Marie; darkness could have Dark Matter from Kirby, and that's all I got

Next Top 10 Boss List: Hunter Bosses, I.e. bosses whose theme and battle revolves around hunting, either stealthily or savage.
Examples Kraven the Hunter (Spider-Man 2), Elite Predator (Aliens vs Predator 2), Lictor (Space Marine 2), etc

I guess you could say fans were rocking out with how set in stone some of these entries were.
P.S. For another list you could try chess themed bosses, with one boss that comes to mind being Kane from Pirate101 (literally takes place on a chess board, has allies literally named Queen and Rooke (all of the Armada big wigs are themed after chess pieces), enemies move as their chess pieces do, enemy pawns promote to Queens if they reach the other side, fight ends once King Kane falls (though you have to beat his minions first before his health can fall to 0)).

I must report Joshscorcher, that Clayface does not die at the end of Arkham city and is rumoured to be hiding underneath the movie studios in knight. he does die, however, in a tie in comic for the awful suicide squad game, where king shark bites off his head. yes you read that right, King shark killed CLAYFACE by biting off his head. there is no explanation it just happens and we are expected to accept this.

4:33 IIRC I looked up clayface in the Arkham series and as it turns out he didn't actually die, just stuck in a state of limbo, alive but unable to shape shift due to the effects of the pit. So he got removed from the story that way technically, but, again IIRC, he was used to clean up the scars on Hush because he could still be used that way.
I stopped and double checked wikis, I think I'm right but take it with some salt, there's more Arkham media than the games (which are already pretty robust already) and IDK where his fate was revealed.

As always, you rock. An oddly nebulous category since a lot of golem bosses like Thardus of Metroid Prime have ice or fire splashed in there, or publishers overlap 'Earth' with 'Undead'. Molgera of Wind Waker is a good Sand boss with a good song and returns in Breath of Wild as 'Molduga'.
This also brings to mind a similarly interesting Top 10- Magnet Bosses. How do they work?
To answer your non-serious reference at the end there, the main challenge would be differentiating them from the bosses that just have some sort of vague levitation or gravity power on one hand and on the other hand differentiating them from the more electric bosses who dabble in magnets but are more so the electro part of the electromagnetic field....which may be difficult seeing as all but one of the previously mentioned forces are used in video games to just explain why objects are floating in mid-air with little to no thought about how they would act under these forces.
I am also personally questioning how block man from mega Man 11 didn't at least get an honorable mention because he is honestly quite the step up from most of the earth themed robot Masters in previous games

Happy to see Granblue Fantasy Relink acknowledged! It's a huge shame that there aren’t any categories left for any of the bosses. Except maybe a "fallen angel" list for lucilius? But that’s a bit of a stretch.

Yay. Ys mentioned :D. The dragon bosses are indeed cool. But theres a boss fight in 7 that are the highlights of the game and are near the ending. Who know, knows.
(Ys origin bosses are also super fun) And yes. Its falcom tradition to make osts go superhard and thats why i love em.
