Jay, good segment on cleaning a PC. Most folks are completely oblivious to the gunk & crap that accumulates into their PC over time, and when the cat hair blanket covers the PC's air inlets and all of the internal components to the point of causing a serious thermal failure? "Wahhhh.... wahhhhh... my PC is a piece of junk....". I use similar cleaning techniques for cleaning PCs, except as far as using a blower, I lean towards more of an 'industrial' approach. I put the PC on my picnic table (outside) with the sides off, and use my Echo electric leaf blower at a light to moderate speed, coming no closer than a foot away from the components. Some of the family's and donated PCs (I rebuild PCs gratis for non-profit use) can generate an absolute tornado of dust, hair 'n dirt 8 to 10 feet high, so I've learned to wear safety glasses & a mask. Afterwards, some careful detailing of the fans, mobo, etc. with an 8" horsehair brush, one more quick followup with the leaf blower, and that can handle most cleaning for dirty PCs.
@@ocelotxp To be fair, cats do not produce the quantity of dander dogs do. Dogs dander and debris is ridiculous. Our dog that wasn't non-allergenic passed away around a year ago and the drop in how much dust was in the environment was noticeable (we still have a dog and 2 cats).
Definitely need to get me a hand vacuum like that. As a teacher, your daughter sounds like a great student to work with! I bet it makes her teacher's job a lot more enjoyable to have such involved parents and a well behaved student.
I think the hand-held thing is an air blower, then he's using a long hose on a vacuum cleaner to try to take the blown-out dust away. Those electric computer dusters are very effective, and so much nicer to use than "air duster / canned air".

I always use a compressor inflatables pump to initially blow off all the big dusty bits OUTSIDE the home. Once the mushroom dust cloud of an explosion has gone and the coughing has reduced, bring it back into the house and do any secondary cleaning/wiping. The temps always go way down after a big build up.

This is a fantastic video. I wholeheartedly subscribe to the same philosophy for both of my boys. We upgraded the processors last year (9600k) & GPUs (RTX2070) and watercooling this past summer. Good tip about using zip ties in associated clusters! That makes so much sense. It's almost stupid to not do it!
I do that as well with the zip ties, but I also use some of those wrap around wire labels you find in most home improvement stores to keep track of fan wires. Also bought a zip tie gun to make cinching down the zip ties easier as it cuts the excess off.
@David Johnston I flip a lot of computers and find those wire ties broken and poking at other wire casing. Not necessarily enough to create a short, but there's a potential.

Thanks for sharing these tips. I’m building a new gaming PC right now but my current one is in an Antec Twelve Hundred full tower case with 5 fans (w/ blue LED) and they all work fine to this days. That build was done 15 years ago so kudos to Antec.
This case looks like it's a breeze to clean. Never underestimate the virtue of removable panels; the sideways PSU is likewise a welcome addition, sick and tired of their fans normally being so hard to access.

Jay's parenting style is what we need more of. Get good grades, work hard in school, and get reward. I'm tired of those parents on social media bragging about how their kid works on top of school and then the parents charge them a tax for making money to teach them hard work. No. What this teaches them is to focus on work/money more than their education first.
Dang it! Thanks Jay. Now my throat is closing up and I can't breathe lol. I've seen my fair share of pet friendly PCs. Good on Little Jay for doing so well in school. I know you are super proud of her!
Love Jay saying about the Corsair cable crap. I went over to EK/Lian Li because of it. Yes Corsair has nice fans but the cable mess I just don't want to deal with.
I would start with compressed air outside with a system like this. In my experience, that can deal with about 90% of the initial cleanup job in a few seconds. Brushes are useful but I would only use them if there were areas the compressed air couldn't get the job done.

As someone who started working IT consulting for small business Point of Sale we found with our clients in beauty, the impact of hairspray is amazing and much worse than cooking oil. Human hair and dust with a bit of hairspray forms a cake that should be cleaned off every quarter and we just trashed the power supplies every year when running in free air. We tried everything in the days before industrial system on chip. At one client they paid for HVAC company to run in fresh air, filter and dehumidify and positive pressurize their POS and Server desk enclosers. We went from 20 to 6 calls across 3 stores a year to just for software upgrades and HD replacements by eliminating the airborne hair and hairspray out of the store. Today I would just buy a dozen Pis to run the same software. I note today, the use of tablets is almost universal in hair care and kitchen POS.
I vacuum the outside of my case once to twice a month and the inside just a few times a year. But i have pretty good filters on the case so not much dust gets inside.
It would be better with a filter i think. I have filters, my temps are really good, my build is clean and the only thing i have to do is take them off once like a month and just blow the dirt off it and its done.

As I will use an ASUS board in my system the fans would fit perfect :) I really like this build a lot! The white and green is an awesome combination! I totally understand your daughter as green and white is also my fav combo :) Want to build something as well but I have no experience with tubing and this stuff so AiO will be the only "water based" cooling for a long time ;)

Just had one of my 10 corsair LLU's start to become really loud, lights not working properly. Going to swop them all out for 10 of these. OMG the cable management in my PC is going to be so much neater! Thank you.
I actually have a very fun story about ICUE and corsair. I recently did a build with the lian li fans but wanted the corsair aio because lcd screen make brain go brr. But ICUE is the only software that can read the coolant temp from their aio so i can't base any of my fans off of the coolant temp which wouldnt be a problem if my cpu wasnt a 7950x that is thermal limited. So my fans were always running at max cause the cpu was always at max. So i had to use a special adapter to route the lconnect hub into the commander core so it could control the fans. You cant just plug it into the commader core because the commander core doesnt recognize it so you have to use a splitter so you can trick into thinking it is. Really nice thing to do for your daughter I am sure she was super excited and thankful.
Never apologise for rewarding your kids hard work with nice things, as a father myself i get asked constantly, 'dont you think spoiling your kids will ruin them?', hell no! if my kids are working hard at school and are good, polite hard workers im going to reward them appropriately! great job Jay, sweet PC your daughter is getting!
I get where you are coming from here. We have 10 cats at home, and we live in a hot area, so I always build my PCs to have a lot of airflow... which also allows for a lot of pet fur to get in there. I normally deep clean my PC every 2-3 months due to the ridiculous amount of dust and fur that gets accumulated inside, but this year was the exception. My mother got really bad. She was diagnosed way too late for lung cancer, and I kept taking care of her while working and studying since she couldn't even walk anymore without running out of breath. That started in May. She died a few weeks ago. This past weekend I remembered I hadn't cleaned my PC in a long while, and boy it was disgusting. I spent an hour and a half and couldn't finish cleaning it since I was called to do some other stuff. I'm really considering getting a good blower to clean my PC. It usually takes me like 3 hours to get it properly cleaned without a blower, specially because of the fans and some tight spots where it's hard to clean.
wires... thats why i whent SL120 on my build.... had been out of PC world for about 10 year at the time of the build so did some reshearch e decided that 18 wires + controler wore to much (9 fans) so i found the at the time fresh out sl120 and whent for it, so happy i did they are amazing
I can totally relate about the dog fur. I have had 11 rescues, 9 of which were shedding machines(I have a zone variance that allows it :) ). You find dog hair in the weirdest places too. I recommend reversing the shop vac and blast it outside first. Then vac it out. The rebuild looks fantastic. Love the green!
I love how much you talk about your kids on this channel. Props!! However, the fact you know how much pet hair circulates tells me you also don't vaccuum the room enough and/or you don't bahte/brush (and I mean get a good brush that pulls and digs out the undercoat too) your dogs often enough either.
The best thing I've learned watching Jay's videos. Cable management. This gave me even more food for thought for the next round. On my previous builds you could best have described my cable management (or lack thereov) as "there seems to have been a struggle".
Pro tip from a contractor who needs to fight dust on site in very expensive homes when working. the best way i found to collect dust is get a big box fan and use spongy cords to attach a regular FAU filter on the intake side of the fan, this system will suck up pretty much all the dust.

Either way it sounds like she'll really benefit from the upgrades you provided. Hope she loves the changes 👍
yeah, too much pressure for meaningless grades, not flunking is the real norm and not misbehaving !
Check out greg who does the fix or flop seris on his channle, he also does a deep dive pc cleaning seris too, i forget his second name, but search fix or flop to find the channel and look for his pc cleaning vids from there. 😉
@Hudson Hamman That's the guy, Thanks!
@@DaftFader Thanks! 😊
I think we all wish we had a dad as supportive and proud of his kid as Jay is of his daughter. She's got real talent for drawing. Hope she continues to work hard because one can only imagine how amazing her already great artwork can get
Thanks for reminding me to do maintenance on my son's PC! You can tell how proud of your daughter you are, you're an awesome dad.
Your daughters art rocks! Reminds me of my oh so taleted little sister. You are an awesome dad.
If only every father could be as proud and loving as Jay is to his daughters
Yes, I am jealous that she has such a badass dad and PC!! Haha always like your content. Helps me think of what to do when I decide to build a pc
Wow!!! A huge change and well deserved. Great Dad!!
Thank you for reminding me to replace my HVAC filter. This channel really does level up my entire adulting-ness.
No joke
You are a good Dad. Nice to see children learn that hard work is what gets you what you want. It's not spoiling, it's great dadding!
I think a dust screen/filter at the bottom would be good for this.
pc-o11-dynamic dose have dust filters on the underside of the case but they're not the best.
@@Warhorse469 mine work just fine with 2 cats -- I've had my 011 Dynamic for over 2 years now
@@Warhorse469 Anything is better than nothing.
Dad brag for the win!! Love it. Came for the content left feeling proud for all A's
@@MattFowlerBTR Thank you for the information! I'll have to look into getting one. I have two cats, so I clean My Girlfriend and I's Pc out at least 4 times a year.
@@MattFowlerBTR It is, it's looks like the IT Cleaners CompuCleaner that I have... It's extremely effective. I vape near my PC and get none of the stickiness Jay describes... CompuCleaner just blows it all away in an instant.
Mind you, I do use PG based E-Liquids in my vape, not the stickier VG based ones.
You did an awesome job. So nice to see a dad who appreciates his kids.
Love the comments on parenting and her rig is SICK watched this cus planning to build something for my daughter shes an awesome person just like your daughter and asks for nothing but gets as much as I can give her thank you for the inspiration your an awesome dad Im sure your many other things but above all else Dad is your most important role period!
That's awesome that she wants to get into animation/illustration. Programs worth checking out are Cal Arts, Art Center of Pasadena, Sheridan College (Canada), or public schools like Cal State Fullerton.
These videos are surprisingly good... discussing aesthetics, what can be improved and how you're improving it... very educational 😃
I have these brushes to detail my car and I can't believe I never thought about using them to dust off the computer! this is life changing
Nothing is kooler than a proud and loving parent..I remember seeing Your daughters build a couple years back..I think the older daughter..but just had to applaud your undeniably proud and loving❤ parenting..
lil jay's art is awesome! she already has an "animation" style going, which is fantastic. and learning to run that Wacom will really push her forward. look up some art shows from Critical Role (the DnD people) called "Pub Draw" where professional artist for darkhorse comics shows you how to draw different types of characters. babs tarr. really fun!
3 series !!
@David Johnston I flip a lot of computers and find those wire ties broken and poking at other wire casing. Not necessarily enough to create a short, but there's a potential.
what's wrong with the 2070 ?
@@TheFalseShepphard nothing, i still use a 2080 ti
Wow!, Awesome drawings, and I love how you encourage your daughter
I know this is old, but the support for your daughter honestly makes me cry. I wish my father upheld his promises for when i got straight A's in school. Ive heard the lines of "get straight A's and u can have what you want" and it wouldnt come true. I aspire to be like you when i have kids and give them things when it is earned. Also the support to her playing games and not weaponizing her computer is refreshing
Thanks for sharing these tips. I’m building a new gaming PC right now but my current one is in an Antec Twelve Hundred full tower case with 5 fans (w/ blue LED) and they all work fine to this days. That build was done 15 years ago so kudos to Antec.
Congrats to your daughter on her grades.
A very well deserved little upgrade
This case looks like it's a breeze to clean. Never underestimate the virtue of removable panels; the sideways PSU is likewise a welcome addition, sick and tired of their fans normally being so hard to access.
That corsair 9:37 though. Complete crap design, so many controllers so many cables. Nobody likes cables and clutter.
yeahhhhhhhh........
sigh
O11d is one of the best case designs on the market rn... No surprise that everyone builds in them. It's legitimately that good
@@doctajuice011d not my cup of tea. Too thick, and requires too many fans. I'm looking for a space saver. With a hinged glass.
@@fynkozari9271 Then try a Lian Li Lancool II Performance model; they're great! Wouldn't swap mine for any reason...I do like that it is minimalist in appearance......

it's really adorable how proud Jay is of his daughter, it's so nice and refreshing to see a parent openly so proud and supportive.
father daughter(s) bond is one of the most beautiful thing in the world.
I needed this video Jay. Thank you. My i9 9900k build is due for a clean as well. Great video bud..
sounds like she needs some badass dust filters in there lol....DemciFilter makes a kit for like 60 dollars for that case
Wouldn't it be cheaper to just shave the dogs? 🤣
@@thecorrupt961 youd think...BUT, Dust filters are like $10...dog grooming starts at $40 every 3-6 months with a husky lol and theyre still shedding year round🤣🤣
Your awesome Jay. What a wonderful father you are. We need more of this in the world.
you're, not your
you + are = you're
that look is soo clean, really cool. Props to your daughter the world needs more kind people
Jay's parenting style is what we need more of.
And then there's the keyboard. Unfortunately compressed doesn't work too well.
Jay, being proud of your kids is base and glad you have kids to be proud of.
Her drawings are so good! Good luck to her. I hope she’s able to get the job she wants animating or whatever would make her happy. That pc is beautiful!
"she might be a witch- I'm not sure".. lol I don't know why I died laughing when you said that, timing + rhythm probably. I dig all that fantasy land- fairy -winx - mage'y - wisp stuff too though. She does have a artistic mind.
I love how you make a PC for your daughters (13 AND 7) my mum doesnt even let me(16) buy one from my own money. You really are the best dad ever.
With money comes convenience and comfort. Work hard so you can provide that for your kids.
As an owner of a 2080Ti.... Ok, I wanted to make a snide remark, but you're being too good of a dad for me to do that. Well done, sir.
Jay, she does deserve it. You and your wife have done a wonderful job raising beautiful children. Thank you for the great content!
That 2080 Ti comment hit hard! I just this week upgraded my 2080 Ti to a 4070 Ti Super. A year later than this video. Hats off to you giving such praise to your daughter and rewarding her in this fashion. 👍
With three German shepherds, I feel your pain.
8:20 As a person that is allergic to cats, but does own multiple, I was definitely just sniffling and coughing instinctively when you were cleaning everything 🤣
I never get when people say they are allergic to cats and still have them. I literally can barely breath with one cat around how do you manage to stay alive?
We have a hairless cat at home (Sphynx)...never had issues. Only breed that doesn't trigger my wife's allergies.
@@sunnycyberbum lol well in my area they're good for the farmers in making sure no rodents, lizards, and bugs get into he crops and houses. They're good at that and are just really friendly with alot of the people here.
The ones I have are strays and more or less adopted me than me adopting them 😅
You should adopt hypoallergenic cats then, a few people in my family are allergic to cats and never had an issue with our bengals
Man I'm glad I'm only allergic to grass and crops and stuff, that's much less likely to end up in my pc and bother me while cleaning ... btw your daughters drawings are really good!
The story about your daughter is so heartwarming. You’re producing some great kids jay 👊
Jay loves his daughter, just not enough for one of his own CPU blocks.
or the 10 4090s laying around HAHA
I clean my computer out once a month. I can't imagine leaving it for years.
Same...but I also have an open-vertical bench rig...easy access to de-dust using a small electric blower.
I vacuum the outside of my case once to twice a month and the inside just a few times a year.
But i have pretty good filters on the case so not much dust gets inside.
You should see some pulled out of a factory. Could grow a garden in them.
Yep, once a month here too. Sometimes when I let the little ankle biter in for a while I'll do it twice a month.
Would you consider a filter for the base fans. Or would it 'sufficate' the system too much?
It would be better with a filter i think. I have filters, my temps are really good, my build is clean and the only thing i have to do is take them off once like a month and just blow the dirt off it and its done.
Lien li case should come with a filter
Really awesome to see you speaking so highly and proudly of your minion...
It speaks volumes of you that you speak with such joy and pleasure about your kids is the absolute best part about this video..
The tech stuff... its informative interesting...but not nearly as awesome as you being so proud !
i hope all dads love their daughters like you do keep it up
I wish Jay was my dad! ahaha or had one like him. Cute upgrade and congrats to your daughter !
are you mean Daddy?? " Daddy?? " 🤔
This build helped me to find my new fans. I am going to build a Lian Li 011 Dynamic XL in early 23 and I am looking for the perfect fan... As I will use an ASUS board in my system the fans would fit perfect :) I really like this build a lot! The white and green is an awesome combination! I totally understand your daughter as green and white is also my fav combo :) Want to build something as well but I have no experience with tubing and this stuff so AiO will be the only "water based" cooling for a long time ;)
You can teach your daughter how to maintain her computer as well.
It's humbling to know even a crazy comp guy old hardware gets used untill its forgotten a testament to you're builds kind sir thank you your daughter is lucky!
Your B-roll is fantastic! You can really feel the sense of pride you have in this build.
Oh, she's doing you proud man, hats off for her awesome continuous performance; straight A's mean you are an awesome dad.
Jay is radiating so much proud dad energy I'm feeling second hand pride.
You are so proud of your daughter and the way you talk about her really shows that! I am getting secondhand proud from this (that's a thing, right?)
Love to hear how proud you are of your daughter! I know she feels that love!
No truer words!
My most recent build is all LianLi. I really like their cases and Fans. Daisy chaining fans and only have 1 cable is a major rat nest saver.
Amazing how clean water cooling system is. Have the similar xl setup and mine is mucked up so quickly.
