Scores:
After my initial score I add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
0-69.5 - Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 - Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
80-84.5 - I recommend trying.
85-87.5 - Definitely try this!
88-91.5 - I recommend buying a bottle blind!
92-95.5 - Stuff you reserve for special pours!
96+ - The meaning of life.
The best from my country 😊
I have had the 23 year old Solara from Ron Zacapa a few times, the first time being in Guatemala. Beautiful rum that I would recommend for special occasions.
I remember having the 23 year and I immediately bought 2 other bottles. Its like rum if you took l melted down burnt toffee, caramel and molasses, all those types of flavours concentrated and turned into alcohol. Just ridiculously good. The only other rum I would compare it to is Santa Teresa which is a bit less expensive but very smooth.
As a frequent Spirits taster, Zacapa and Diplomatico are at the top of my favorites when I am looking for that "Sweet" style of rums. You are correct in saying Zacapa 23 is a much better bang for your buck, it is about 80% of what the XO is. Still I also enjoy spirits that have Cognac barrel influence in them, so for me it is worth the extra to experience the XO. For others that don't care for the Cognac influence the 23 is a much better buy. If you are seeking to enjoy unsweetened rums, I tend to look no further than foursquare rum, s they have many seasonal age stated rum products that are unsweetened and uncolored. Honorable mention would be Rhum Barbancourt 5 Star (8 yr old) , which I've used in several blind taste test with Scotch Whiskies and was able to fool other Scotch drinkers into thinking it was a Scotch. Super reasonable price under $30 USD, and quite tasty with a Cigar. If you've never tried that Rhum Barbancourt Haitian Rum I'd recommend adding it to a blind tasting to see what you really think against non-peated 12 year old Scotches. There is also a 15 year old, but the oak influence is quite heavy on that one, so I'd recommend giving the 8 year old a go.
I've had some amazing 4 square rum! Probably my favorite
Locate some foursquare and u will never go back to dosed rums again
Great insight. I've had the 15 yr Barbancourt. I'll try the 8.
Still have some left in my bottle of the XO purchased about 5 yrs ago duty free, pretty sure it was about $90 Canadian back then.
This one has been on my watchlist. Seems interesting. I wonder how it compares to Foursquare?
Great video! Haven’t tried any of the Ron Zacapa yet. How does this compare to the El Dorado 25?
The only other rum I’ve tried is the Zafra 30, and found it to be very drying on the palate. So far the El Dorado 25 is my favorite!
Thanks again for the great video. Cheers.
I like the El Dorado more for sure
I have the 23 Solera I wonder how does it compare with this one.
I have not had a Ron Zacapa Rum yet, Planning on it tho. Ive had Centenario's 20 yr. Tho, very good, had a lot of oak presence, that aspect can be rare in rum, Its an instant pick up if I ever see it again.
Rum is a good Summer alt, to whiskey. Good to have a few bottles on hand. Now I do believe Rum is beginning to be overvalued, and overpriced when the quality isnt there yet. Plantation just released a good aged set but for 200- 500 based on each age statement. Rum is trying to be whiskey, but doesn't have the regulations, quality, or consumer loyalty to break out of the already precieved shell that people already associate with Rum mainly it being a spiced spirit for mixing. People already get intimidated by Scotchs high price value but for guaranteed quality, as someone who works in sales I have a hard time getting people to buy scotch even with those qualities. Its a tall order to get people to pay the same amount for less in comparison.
El dorado was quite low and even lower now with Guyanas new regulations pretty sure 15 is free 12 little bit and age statement minimum changes.
Have you tried A.H. Riise None Plus Ultra?
At $100 is it really twice as good as plantation xo ?
Good rum but for the price to value I stick with the RZ 23.
Then stay poor.
I drink this like water 💦 lol 😂 it’s in my list of only 5 🍹 rums 😊
looking to buy that for my fathers birthday. could you please tell me if its any simmilarity to whiskey or cognac? i would not like to buy a rum that tastes like whiskey. happened to me with flor de cana once
@@RA-lh9uh that’s tuff for me to say because I haven’t drank whiskey or cognac in over 15 years lol 😂 sorry 😞 but the more affordable version of this is zacapa 23 and it’s just as good but the presentation of alone is great for a gift 🎁 the dark version of it is priced between the two
@@user-ul4wy2lx2m thanks man. i see 23 looks great too but for the presentation i will go with XO. also the price is not much different from 23. but i see 23 comes in 2 different versions. one is named black label. so maybe i will buy this one for myself hahah
The Zacapa 23 turned me off this style of rum. The age declaration is meaningless in the rum industry compared to scotch whisky
Delicioso
It’s garbage and loaded with added sugar…
I doubt you've even tried it lol
I had some at a bar in Miami, way to sweet for me too.
Its one of the 10 best rums in the world lol 😂
Here is a good question This or a cask strength release from Four Square? Has to be the 4 🟨 right?? I am sorry but if I am paying over 100 bills for any spirit I just don't want it to be 40% That is my old Ralfy side coming out.
Yeah, no doubt 4Square
