I have a Subsequent 37 and both Diva and Serum which do an extremely impressive job to emulate what really are very simple sound sources but with overall combined, complex harmonics. Just for fun, I have spent hours trying to get these two amazing VST's to sound like the hardware. Now, I am not saying it's impossible to get extremely close, in the context of a mix, VST vs hardware is almost indistinguishable. There is a difference though, the hardware filters sound better, the way the oscillators play off each other, the general tone and complexity, richness of the sound and snappy Moog envelopes. The hardware is better sounding but is it worth it for most people, I would say no, especially if we are looking at a whole mix. Serum and Diva can do the job but to get it very close takes time, the plugins are also not playable like the Sub 37 but this is another topic.
