  • Chamonix, France in the French Alps is a magical place, and also was the inspiration for us quitting our jobs and traveling the world! The snowcapped mountains and the charming village streets, oh and don't forget the local spirits and FONDUE!!!

    I love how authentic and relatable you are! Thank you for including prices for everything, esply the small things, ie food prices. We’ve been to Paris 28 times in 10 years. Exploring skiing! 🎉❤

      28 times in Paris?! We’ve been once, for 2 days. We might go back soon! Do you have any tips for us? We saw a few of the major sites last time. Looking for something new💛

    Please forgive me, but as a Frenchman I couldn't help smiling at your ham and cheese croissant for breakfast. That's something that we French people would rather have for a quick lunch or maybe dinner. Though some people do have salty breakfasts, most of us still go by the traditional sweet "continental" breakfasts.
    They have two peak seasons in the Alps, summer for hiking and winter for skiing. Many local people who make a living from tourism therefore tend to take their yearly vacation and close business "in-between", during the fall when there are less cutomers.

    Hi!!!! My family and i will be in france over the last week of september and we were planning to go to Chamonix, but my prior experience in the dolomites (in october) makes me think that chamonix might not be the best place to visit during that time? Not sure if we should still include chamonix in our itinerary and was hoping to find out when you guys were there!

      @@EvanandLemon not sure actually, maybe a little bit of beginners level hiking, some luge activity but my main concerns are
      1. Are most of the huts and restaurants etc going to be shut?
      2. Is it going to be really annoying to get to Provence from chamonix!
      Thanks so much for replying so quick btw :)

      I can only speak to our experience- we didn’t go to hike so there may have been trails open but I’m not sure. I just did a quick google search and it looks like hiking and mountain biking will be open in September. We really had a lovely time there. As for transportation, we took the bus from Lyon and it was super easy.

      Most of the restaurants in the town center were open but there were a few in smaller surrounding towns that were shut. I think it’s worth a visit for sure! The place we had dinner in the video was SO good! If we went again, we would rent a car and get an Airbnb in the countryside with a hot tub to relax in at night. And then drive into town for meals. I think you should go! It’s so beautiful! Thanks for watching ☺️

    Did you travel to any nearby villages? I am planning to spend 5 nights in the area in late October for hiking and relaxing but find little information as to what is open in any of the villages. Info is focused on summer and winter.
    Was it easy to discern locally- owned and quality restaurants vs touristic places? Were there enough options available?

    • @EvanandLemon
      @EvanandLemon  6 місяців тому +2

      Hello! We did not visit any nearby villages.
      There were plenty of restaurants open, some touristy and some not. We also found a lovely local grocery store that had loads of food options.

      I just spent a week with my family in Arâches-la-Frasse. It's a small town based at 1200m 35min north from Chamonix. Beautiful place.

    This is very inspiring. I travel to Poland all the time, but I've never been to France. How is the living expenses in France ?

    • @EvanandLemon
      @EvanandLemon  Рік тому +1

      Outside of Paris we found accommodation to be fairly affordable! We stayed in an Airbnb for $45 a night in Chamonix and had a view of the mountains! Groceries are very affordable too. We ate at boulangeries mostly- best place for an inexpensive lunch or breakfast! We felt France was more affordable than Germany.

      pron: sav-wah (Savoie)
      cham close = late may into early june for train tracks & cable car servicing, generally down for a week or less but it is all posted online if folk are generally astute enough to plan ahead, then it hits full summer season before the october snow comes in marking another break for the town, with a general slope opening date anytime till the 16th dec as is fairly normal.

    You essentially failed to state WHAT WAS CLOSED, despite banging on about it several times, leaving folk none the wiser, plenty of good food opportunities missed, some superb budget meals, explaing unhurried service dining in france would have been useful for visitors who oft melt down because they feel ignored (actually anything but) ..paulos, greensoft bar excels, &usually not all of the chamonice are closed, superb eats, paulos is italian fare & decent italian coffee, across the road are artisnal eats, baked breads for sale outside & beer o clock rfid self serve bar..! opportunities missed (like so many bloggers sticking to hackneyed material) you could have done something different that brought something new, especially with the mentions of Anthony Bourdain, I anticipated a few proper food otems not a ham n'cheese croissant.
    Aguille du mide (pron Aggeee) is overly expensive tick box tourism, so much more to the valley & its views.
