In this episode, I look at a pair of first aid kits issued to Civil Defence organizations during the early Cold War. What sort of equipment would one need to treat victims of a nuclear attack? The answer may surprise you.
Regarding the cocaine-based ointment: I am currently editing my mother’s journal of her experiences while trapped in Europe by World War II. She was stranded in France and had a bad cold and was annoyed that none of the pharmacies sold throat lozenges that did NOT contain cocaine.
@Anne Frank Vape Pen It wasn’t that bad. She got out of France BEFORE the Germans arrived, before the US joined the war. My Father was in the crew of the SS Washington. As a neutral ship, they were still docking in Hamburg. They picked up the crew of the Olivegrove after it had been torpedoed by U-33, after having been invited to do so by the captain of the U-Boat. The war had not turned ugly yet. This is why I want to publish the journal. It covers a very strange period of history.

@@ShinigamisBlade I still have a lot to do with correlating Mom’s photos and telegrams with the text. Some of the photos are unlabeled and I’m trying to avoid mistakes since no one is likely to go back and make corrections.

Thought the same thing. Ethanol Iodine solution is also dual use - as an antiseptic and few drops in water for thyroid protection.
