Just want to explain a little before I go into thanking you . I’m 58 and I’ve gotten into card magic during covid . I figured I’d find away to entertain my grand kids . So needless to say I love doing card magic since I go no where with out a deck of cards . I’ve been struggling with the double lift but since I’ve watched your video my progress with the pinky count and double lift and let’s not leave out the Altman trap has been unbelievable . Now I’ll take the time to thank you for that tutorial and I now call myself one of your fans thank you wish I could return the favor

For me personally, trying to establish the pinky break for the double lift, has been UNBELIEVABLY frustrating. More times than not, I end up with 3 or 4 cards, opposed to the 2 that I actually need. I finally just put my cards away to take a break for a while. Much, much respect to anyone who can pull this off with regularity. 👍

Invest some time in learning the "strike" or "hit" double lift. You can find some tutorials here on UA-cam. Or check out the "knock-out" double lift by Martin Nash, which is great if you are standing. Yeah, the pinky-count is tough to master. Jason England has a section on DLs that you can download. Plus the DL is well-covered on one of his DVDs. Hope this helps.

The one control I never see tutorials on is the one card overhand cut, typically it’s the top card that doesn’t move but you can do bottom or a middle if your good. It’s an actual single overhand shuffle cut that you can repeat over and over and over. If your just kind of quick, it’s almost totally invisible. If you talk and look at your audience, they will never notice because if you make eye contact just for a quarter of a second, that’s all you would need of you are slow. If you are fast and deliberate, no one is going to notice unless you watch slow mo.
I can’t imagine how invisible it would look with someone your skill teir. You can overhand cut and shuffle 500 times and the top card will stay where it’s at as long as you want it to.
Obviously used for the “place your card on top” tricks or “on top of half the deck tricks” where you false cut and false one card overhand a million times. You can use big cuts, single shovels, small packet cuts, whatever you want really cause that card ain’t moving. You can throw a few controlled riffles in there too if you want.

  • @superamazingproduct

Darwin Ortiz talks about the difference between a double undercut and a pass it all depends on what you want the spectator to think.
lIf you want The Spectator to think that the card has been lost in the deck then doing a pass won't really help because of course they know that you know that that card is somewhere near the center, because that's where they saw you put it in, and they didn't see you change it at all. So if you're effect is that the card went from the center of the deck to somewhere else, then you should use the pass or another invisible control.
If the effect is that the card is out of your control and that it's been mixed in the deck then you should use the double undercut or a shuffle control. This gives the effect that the card has been lost in the deck and that it is out of your control.
The two different effects caused by the two different styles of controls are subtle but significant. If for example you lose a card in the center of the deck then perform a pass and ask your spectator if there is any possible way that you know where the card is they would have to say YES. The reason for this is because they saw you place it in the center of the deck, so you know that it's somewhere near the center of the deck.
There are other effects though where it would be helpful to know that the card has been mixed after you placed it in the center of the pack.
