Small talk about the Quality factor (the Q) of radio coils, in theory going from 1 Hertz to .....

  • Please read the description first. A small talk video about the Q factor of (radio) coils, it is only an approach and a demo (…).
    When you want to study this issue/subject in a serious way (the Q of coils & resonant circuits on their peak rsonances): study at first the relevant radio technology books, and after that, go to Google and/or the www.
    These reliable Radio Tech books of the 1950’s-1980’s-1990’s will surely show you reliable calculations in this regard. And (sometimes) also the “how to make it in practice” of High Q coils or cavities. The latter is a big bonus, of course.
    They can show you how to calculate the quality factor of a coil named “X”, with X windings, with a core of X inductance, made with a X diameter of material X with X spacings, etc.
    Thus, there are surely calculations to approach this specific subject and questions: the quality of coil “X” for frequency “Y”. Please don't get lost here, in many old radio books of the 1940's-1960's you can find very reliable info about how to make a good Q coil for frequency band "X". Espacially (in Europe) in old Philips books/magazines. Surely for America there will also be reliable books in this regard.

    Thus : I did not show Quality factor calculations of (radio) coils, by purpose. It could be a personal study into a deep dive into this subject. They go from (say) 30 KC up to XXX MC or even in the Gigahertz range.
    They all have their specific quality factors, their best resonance on LW/MW/SW/VHF/UHF/SHF/ up into the (say) radioactive wave frequencies = micrometer or smaller waves.
    To receive an (e.m.) signal on such an extremely high frequency band (or not, in a lower band). But that, in a certain way, goes beyond the things that I wanted to tell via this video.
    On the other hand: study e.g. the development of the Magnetron, since the 1940’s-1960’s, when talking about resonance and peak resonance in the GigaHertz range. Say getting an enourmous energy out, via cavities, made in a specific physical way. Got to radar, etc.
    Resonance and peak resonance and trying to get a transmitter or receiver to a high Q are (say) the most proper factors to make a wavetrain functional, could go from 1 Hertz into the microHertz waves, say from 1 Hertz E.M. to wavepipes for Radar, in the GigaHertz range.

    Type there the keywords that you like (e.g. radio/audio/amplifiers/test/filter/) in the “looking glass” = search function” and give “enter”. Via that you can find specific video’s (under the say 1500 published).
    When you search, search always “NEWEST FIRST” to get the right overview.
    You can also search via the “looking glass” on my Channel trailer via keywords like ”audio”, “radio”, “amplifier”, “filter”, “Shortwave”, “transistor”, “FET”, “oscillator”, “generator”, “switch”, “schmitt trigger” etc; so the electronic subject you are interested in.

    I keep all my YT videos constant actual, so the original video’s with the most recent information are always on UA-cam.     Good work explaining the freq shift of the coil.Now I was playing around with my Short Wave reciver that has banks of inductors for the differant wave bands i found that if I put a small NI magnet next to the coil bank it increases the reception for that waveband (the inductors are sealed ones. non tunable ) ---the question is what is going on? or have I found a way to tune an inductor without a capacitor. Hmm it would make a good antenna tuner just using magnets from an old microwave and not variable capacitors.

      Very interesting experiment! Yes, it is a way of tuning the coil, that is my (first) idea. Could be an idea to test it on the max. frequency shift.

      On the LULU website (more info in the description) you can buy quite a few of the circuits/books about electronics that I made in the past. Very cheap. Also documents with direct links (PDF's) to the many circuits on YT.
      That is a (payed, small amount) PDF file via which you can directly link to the (say...) thousand videos that I published on YT.
      Important to tell: it is not complete (!), it only goes to (say) 800 videos, not the ones posted during the past say 3 or 4 years.
      I (thus) have to make a new document, covering what I was doing on UA-cam in the past 3 - 4 Years on YT, with all the links to these specific video's and schematics. When you have followed my channel during the past 4-5 years, you have seen almost all of them.

    wat doe je toch zo laag, Kom weer terug omhoog alsjeblieft?
    Doe mij een LOL en doe weer wat meer op KorteGolf of gekker nog en meer omhoog naar FM.
    Heb je trouwens een ontvanger voor vreemde banden? Ik bedoel bijvoorbeeld waar de piraatjes zitten op 84 tot 86MHz in WFM of zoals jij en ik het noemen FM.
    Of wat ook leuk is wat meer in jou straatje de KorteGolf piraatjes 6100 tot 6600KHz in AM modes.
    Hier doen we het trouwens rustig aan vanwege die warmte, doe dat ook Ko? Hou je rustig!

      Bedankt Rob. Punt is dat alles wat ik over de Korte Golf wilde vertellen wel zo'n beetje is behandeld. Inclusief de schema's. Ik zal eens kijken of ik iets tussen 84-86 MHz kan ontvangen.

      jaaa dat weet ik Ko, je hebt zo’n beetje alles al behandelt heb ik ook gezien!
      Wat mij trouwens opviel is dat heel veel mensen niet weten dat met een klein -
      KorteGolf AM zendertje absoluut NIET weten hoe ver weg je kunt komen!
      Die mensen doen er een TE KLEIN stukje draad aan en gaan dan een loop test doen???
      ( EEN LOOP TEST!!! )
      ik zal eerlijk zijn toen ik met mijn bus zendertje deed oproepen wist ik TOTAAALL niet wat mij te wachten stond! ( ik was FM gewend! ) wist ik veel dat ik de halve wereld deed!!!???
      ik vind het heel jammer dat er ZO veel mensen het geheim van de KG - AM niet weten,
      een gemiste kans.
      ( als je 84 tot 86MHz luistert Ko, vaak zijn ze er pas laat! dus... zeg 11...12...1...2 uur -
      en ook een ontvanger is misschien zo ff 1 2 3 niet beschikbaar, hoop van wel natuurlijk! )

      Yes, I know Ko, you've already covered just about everything, I saw!
      What struck me, by the way, is that a lot of people don't know that with a small -
      KorteGolf AM transmitter absolutely NOT know how far away you can get!
      Those people put TOO SMALL piece of wire on it and then do a loop test???
      (A WALK TEST!!!)
      I'll be honest when I made calls with my bus transmitter, I didn't know AT ALL what to expect! (I was used to FM!) I didn't know that I covered half the world!!!???
      I think it's a shame that SO many people don't know the secret of the KG - AM,
      a missed opportunity.

      Hoi Rob, ik heb in het verleden ook nog wel iets voor (V) HF gebouwd, maar was daar nooit zo mee bezig. Hierbij de video
