I actually went to lowes this morning to buy a new washer. I wanted a simple mechanical machine, without all the electronic gizmos. The sales lady told me that they don’t make machines like that anymore. So it seemed I had no choice but to buy one of the machines with all the electronic gizmo. I wish I would’ve watched your video before I picked this machine, because I think my wife is going to absolutely hate it? It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow, and after watching this video I might just cancel the purchase and talk my wife into just buying an old refurbished washer! The old washers worked for years without any problems or pulling your hair out trying to figure out how to turn it on. Seems like everything they make nowadays that’s supposed to be better is actually more complicated and less quality, and much more expensive! Thank you for posting this and possibly saving us from the headache of just doing laundry! I just wanna throw my clothes in,turn it on, and forget about it, open it up later, and my clothes are done! We had one washer the whole time I grew up in the 70s, it lasted from the time I was five years old until I graduated high school, and we never had a problem with it and we had four kids in the family! Have a great day!
There is a learning curve associated with this machine for sure. Especially for those who have owned plain-Jane mechanically controlled versions exclusively. My conclusions after washing several loads since my first video have softened. I think Whirlpool is trying to hit the sweet spot between blunt force old-school washers and modern washers that conserve water and are energy efficient. This machine has features that can help to mitigate this conundrum if you know how to use them. The glass top for instance. It's there so that a human can gauge the efficiency of the machine and make changes. I've found that the single most effective setting to improve performance is to always use "Deep Water." Next, is to not overload the machine. Finally, always add detergents in before placing clothing into the machine. And yes, using more water and machine cycles doesn't conserve and save... it's almost the opposite.
They do still make machines like that. It's the Speed Queen TC5 which is built with the old school mechanical transmission and has the old school agitator. A Speed Queen is built to last at least 25 years and aren't cheap. They aren't even sold at the big box stores. This U.S. built W/D are only sold at independent appliance stores. The one I just purchased replaced my 12 year old Kenmore front loader with all the electronic and computerized bells and whistles. However, the machine never got my clothes clean, the gaskets were always moldy and the washer broke down four times with the motor finally dying this last time. I had enough! I'm 62, and my Speed Queen mostly likely will outlast me!
@@beatiger9361 The TR5 isn't mechanical. It's computerized and has that new fangled agitator that is supposed to be gentler on your clothes. The TC5 has the classic old school agitator and the mechanical parts. It's also easier and cheaper to repair.
It's fussy about load size and fabric types. I've since discovered that smaller loads consisting of a single fabric type and applicable setting yields better results. For instance, it does really well on separate loads of jeans and towels. For double knits and active type clothing (polyesters), you need to use the 'Deep Water' setting or agitation really suffers. The verdict is still out on sheets, blankets and quilts until I gain more experience with the agitator removed.
Couldn’t agree with you more. The more videos I watch including this one, is definitely straying me away from buying it. Just give me something simple.
The transmission died in my 20-year-old Kenmore washer, and my husband has dementia and is incontinent, so a new machine was necessary immediately. This Whirlpool was available and could be delivered in two days, so BINGO I bought it. I'm pretty happy with it so far, but I do lots of small loads daily instead of one or two larger loads a week. I'm the first one to admit this machine is way different than my old Kenmore, but the clothes come out clean, the spin cycle is really efficient, and with a little practice I think I'll get used to all the newfangled settings.
I'm so glad to hear that this machine is working for you. I've gotten used to mine and, like you I am mostly satisfied with the performance. One of the keys is to not overload the machine. It seems like the big tub is not designed for holding more clothes. It is simply oversized to compensate for the undersized agitator. It also does a good job with the agitator removed. Again, you have to be careful about overloading the tub.
We are basically spoiled all our life we had momma's old tried and true washer that used tons of water and dollar store soaps. Fast forward to today and we have water saver washers with crappy actions and expensive repairs. Wouldn't it be better to just find an old machine in good condition? My wife says our old washer stinks and she wants a new one yet her son washes his drywall clothes in it she does blankets in it. It gets a workout every day and its a 1980 washer with a direct coupler and removable skin. A solid transmission and it's easy to repair. Whirlpool's old engineers are probably rolling over in the graves when they see the crap that's out here today.
You are very welcomed! At this point, my prognosis is the same as yours. I'm hoping the inconveniences that I'm suffering is simply a part of the learning curve. The secret may be to follow the selector clothing setting exclusively and separate out my load accordingly. Doing that with lighter loads and resisting the temptation to change settings in mid cycle might be the ticket.

Whirlpool's suggestion is to buy a Downy ball to add softener to the rinse water. This was a lower priced washer and performance reflects that.
Yes, use dryer sheet and ALWAYS Deep Water. It is the government that has given them restrictions in order to save water in drought areas of our country. I pause it out to add Lysol sanitizer to my rinse cycle for urinary stained underwear and clothes.

The downfall to the models you recommend is the tub sizes are much smaller and they are almost twice the price. Thanks for sharing them however, because I’m seriously considering returning this one.
@@ty_shunz3274I guess it doesn't matter now beings I'm only seeing this today. I don't know what this thing for a gigantic capacities is for ? I traded mine for a front loading machine. It uses less water and is faster. Only downside that I've noticed is the front-loader's tendency to smell bad if you don't leave the door open when not in use. Not sure what causes that.
So I just got this washer today. The agitator don’t move. But it will fill up with water and drain out about 20/30 minutes later. Without washing. I put it on quick and normal and I got the same results both times. Am I doing something wrong? Is it broke?
You exhibited the most patience I've seen regarding an overview. Thanks for the detailed review. Whirlpool did a poor job on its manual and you should let them know! Please explain exactly when do you put the fabric soften in???
Everyone, he overloaded the machine and he purchased a 4.7 instead of a 5.5. He didn't read the instructions. I hope you called the store where you purchased it and Whirlpool. I hope everything turns out well for you. 👍
I choose "Extra Water" and "Double Rinse" on every load. But I am on a well. I suspect those water levels put my usage back to where it used to be. Not saying you should do that, but it seems to work for me.
Sounds like it is not getting water for some reason. Remove hoses and check filter screens. Also make sure water flows through the hoses. Try different control settings. Good luck!
I just got this machine and I read the instructions. Even then, the machine is confusing if you're used to older type machines. When i first started it, (today actually), I thought the machine was malfunctioning as it started spinning. Same situation as you. Sadly these are dainty looking machines and I have to have it outdoors, so I dunno how long this will last. But hopefully I'll figure this new stuff out soon
Yeah. It will bend you to its own will lol. I used to have an outdoors washing machine too. You have to be careful in the winter when it gets below freezing. If you can, make sure you drain the water out of the bottom of the machine before it freezes. It will bust the plastic housing and pipes if you don't. Best way is to disconnect the exit hose from the lower spigot and then tilt the machine to drain out any water. Water is always there because of the drain hose always has water sitting in it from your last load.
This machine is a pain for some reason I try everything it won't start. it just start sensing and sensing it that's it it stays there it won't start Any ideas what to do? I unplugged it then turn it but nothing happened. It only puts water but won't wash or start
These new "High Efficiency" washers don't even come close to the Direct Drive washer models of the late 80s/early 90s. I have an Kenmore 110 Direct Drive model from that era that I would not trade for anything. A regular load cycle in my washer is 28 minutes from start to finish
Looks like the agitator should go clockwise more often than counter-clockwise to get the clothes to rotate through the tub. If it just goes left-right equally, clothes don't move top to bottom. Bad design.
Yep, and it starts swishing before the clothes are fully immersed. You would think this kind of rubbing might damage the clothes. It would be nice to hear from a Whirlpool engineer about that.
I bought mine, and I have a problem because it shakes very hard and sometimes I can't put the fabric softener on and I have to start it all over again.,I can return because on the store they told me you can return with 48 hours. Very disappoint 😭
Make sure the machine is level. Place a 24" level bar on the top of the machine's lid and check for level right and left and then forward and back. You might be putting too much clothing into the machine also. Try using the Deep Water setting too.
I'm curious to know if I have the fabric soft light on ,when do I put the softener in?? Will the door unlock for me? Or do I put in the detergent hole before cycle?
if you select the fabric softer...it simply means youre letting the machine know youve put a downy ball inside prior...soit will sense it and perhaps do a more aggressive spin to release the ball....if you want to do it manually.....during the rinse cycle..you pause it after it fills up....then the lid will unlock....then you pour it in...close the lid...and press and hold the start button...then the lid will lock and will resume washing.
It sounds as though you didn't read the instructions prior to using the machine. Everything you had problems with would have been eliminated had you READ the instructions FIRST. We have just purchased the same machine and the instructions are very helpful when read first.
Good point but not applicable here. This is a machine that old timers must adapt to. The instructions are helpful but there is a lot of fuzzy logic that must be applied to have success. I would argue that the first point in my favor would be the presence of the massive glass window that doubles as the washer's lid. The window's obvious function is to show a user the folly of his actions on the current load and to modify said actions for the next load. Secondly, if overloading is a problem... why is there no mark on the tub to indicate a maximum load level? There is also a "Deep Water" setting that is surreptitiously installed onto the control panel as well as button for "Extra Rinse". And I could go on and on about the missing "Rinse" indicator. Doesn't that seem strange? This machine was intentionally designed to deny certain options and give other options if the observed results were not what the user expected. Like I said, old timers have to adapt to this machine and I have.
My parents just bought this machine, and there were two booklets that came with it, but there is NO information on how use the washing machine. We've been trying to find directions online.
@@rockpaperstone8722 At 68 I agree with your assessment. Seems to be a woke machine trying hard to make you energy efficient with dirty clothes, reminds me of the current clueless powers in control of our poor country.
I bought this one and absolutely hate it . Clothes never get pulled down , never enough water , can barely see water sometimes , using the bleach dispenser dumps bleach straight onto clothes as you pour it in and lands on dry clothes in one spot, never know when to put softener in (no light) , can't open lid to add a sock w/o a process ,And the list goes on . HATE HATE HATE IT !!!!!
I received mine new washer on June 6 and the same day I wanted to return it back to the store. I'm very unhappy with the machine, this is the worse washer I have ever had. Will be calling the store to exchange if possible, I should not be forced to pay for something that's not worth the money I spent on it. I DO NOT LIKE THIS MACHINE......
Bought this machine 6 weeks ago. Today, it won't proceed past the sense mode. The fact that they built this machine without a reset is insane. I would not recommend.
It can be frustrating. There have been times that I have added the detergent and then used the "faucet" mode to rinse out the cup. I then added clothing and started a cycle only to have the machine flush out the detergent. It would then proceed into the wash cycle even though the detergent was gone. If I had your problem I would disconnect the water supply lines and check the filter screens. They may be clogged. Especially if you are using well water or have rusty water pipes.
It clearly says HOLD TO START... ones you do that you'll see SENSE, SOAK, WASH AND DONE lights go ON one after the other, then you let go ... it'll start immediately. Whoever did this video did not read carefully the instructions or panel . It was frustrating to wash the guy going on about to do laundry and act like if he knew the steps when clearly he didn't. I own this machine and is pretty decent for the money we paid. Just follow instructions and learn to use it.
I just bought this washer and the wash cycle is a joke in my opinion. I am replacing an older whirlpool and the wash cycle was very aggressive. This one is doing the twist 🙄
:You did not overload the machine. Soak is part of wash and the wash does not last long for that reason. This does not agitate like the old machines. No tangled clothes. Clothes last longer. They still get clean. Use BULKY for towels and sheets.. The button says PUSH and HOLD (3 sec) . Let the machine do its work and quit fooling with it.
Thanks. It has bent me to it's will and I have been assimilated. Not too sure about clothes lasting longer. It seems like a lot of scraping is going on when there is little or no water in the tub.
@@rockpaperstone8722 I have put this machine to many tests. If you use HEAVY or BULKY you will get more action. This machine does a swishing action and not the thrashing action of old machines. I intend to always use DEEP WATER. You may think there is not enough water but they are floating. You can tell when the water is ejected the clothes go down considerably. I washed a puffy mattress pad and a set of sheets and some soiled underwear for good measure. I did not pre treat anything. I got gray water. This tells me that my previous machine was not cleaning well. Everything came out fine. Also this machine raises the bin up prior to ejecting water from below the bin. Older machines keep at least 2 to 3 gallons of water in there and it can get rank over time. This is a good machine but I am wondering if I need additional warranty with all this new tech. You can download the cycle guide on the right hand side of Whirlpools web page after you key in the model number and do the search for the owners manual. It spins well and that saves dryer time. Most permanent press items are done in 5 min using the casual or perm. press cycle. I dont wait for it to finish. To me Bulky, Heavy and Towels would be the same thing. I cant imagine why some people would want a wash machine with 32 cycles!!!!
Wow, you really know this machine. I only use DEEP WATER too. All in all, it does seem to do a good job. I take the agitator out for washing a queen comforter and sheets. Very helpful. Sometimes I wish someone would make a full fin agitator for this thing. Then we could just swap out the mini-fin to get back the big splashes lol. Thanks for the tips on using HEAVY and Bulky settings.
Everyone on here is not saying what they really want to say.. this washer machine is a real piece of shxx.. point blank period it doesn't even really was the clothes.. please don't waste your time nor money
It is horrific that all new washing machines are complete crap. None of the Agitators work at all like the old Whirlpools. And the noise is repulsive. Stay away from new GE washing Machines I am cursed with one & it sounds like this one but now does not turn on after 1 months but it still plays the ridiculous jingles smh.
Hello. Thanks for your comment. Pressing PAUSE or STOP does not reset my machine to absolute START. The machine will remember where you stopped and will start at that point when you begin your next load. For instance, I stopped the machine during it's final spin. I assumed I could put the next load in and go. When I started the new load, it did not fill the tank and spun out the new load's detergent. Woe is me...
Hold the start button for three seconds until u see all the lights light up.. good idea that u read the manual and bookmark or download cycle guide before posting this . If you treat the machine as it was designed, you will save a lot of time, water and grief . The machine works fine, can’t overload it, and pls remember to add detergent before clothes, keep clothes against or around the drum, in piles, use HE detergent only, use fabric softener if you must, during the rinse cycle only, and DO NOT OPEN LID while machine is operating to do so. Stop machine , lift lid, then add softener. Press start again.
When I hold the start button down all it does is click...nothing else happens..then it clicks again like in sets of clicking but nothing happens..should i add water then hold the start button

I bought a matching set WTW5057LWO in July 2022. The washer developed an electrical burning smell and quit operating in high spin. Today is Jan 8 and I have been trying to get repair to come out and see what is wrong. It has not been a friendly experience. So I called last week and explained after on hold for nearly an hour and two transfers finally reaching a special department of warranty called the consumer safety dept. which expedites the claim (supposedly) to a higher level and shorter tech response time. Nonetheless, I was told it could take EIGHT FU***NG DAYS to get a response back due to the lack of warranty service providers. The washer is used by a property Mngt. / cleaning company for our AirBB. It has been down now for nearly three weeks which means, we are loosing much needed income revenue to pay the mortgage. My own residence has a matching BOSCH front load set nearly 15 years old and is still working perfect. I am told by Lowe's I cannot get a replacement or refund via an RMA until it has been determined it can or cannot be repaired. Buyer beware. IF you can afford a better appliance with a proven track record, go for it. At the time I was shopping for a washer and dryer I almost opted for a commercial grade washer with simple controls and purpose built. However, that was a $1,500.00 machine vs. a $650.00 one. Hindsight is always 2020.
I'm pretty sure that this machine is a POS! Most top load machines, these days, are a joke. If you want a good machine that doesn't use a lot of water and gets you clothes really clean, check out the GE front loaders, they do not disappoint!!!

I just bought one exactly like that and I’m not sure I’m going to like it!
I choose "Extra Water" and "Double Rinse" on every load. But I am on a well. I suspect those water levels put my usage back to where it used to be. Not saying you should do that, but it seems to work for me.
My washers is locked in lock lid opens but washers won't run
Sounds like it is not getting water for some reason. Remove hoses and check filter screens. Also make sure water flows through the hoses. Try different control settings. Good luck!
Great great video....this machine is thrash....alot of modern washing machines, have been over sentizied..
Water is always there because of the drain hose always has water sitting in it from your last load.
thanks
Thank you for watching and you are very welcomed!
This machine is a pain for some reason I try everything it won't start.
it just start sensing and sensing it
that's it it stays there it won't start
Any ideas what to do? I unplugged it then turn it but nothing happened. It only puts water but won't wash or start
Make sure you haven't accidentally activated the "30 Min Pre Soak" function. It is a button on your control panel.
These new "High Efficiency" washers don't even come close to the Direct Drive washer models of the late 80s/early 90s. I have an Kenmore 110 Direct Drive model from that era that I would not trade for anything. A regular load cycle in my washer is 28 minutes from start to finish
Welp, that's another thing to put on my list of things I should never believe.
The lock on my won't ligh up and then it doesn't start
Looks like the agitator should go clockwise more often than counter-clockwise to get the clothes to rotate through the tub. If it just goes left-right equally, clothes don't move top to bottom. Bad design.
Yep, and it starts swishing before the clothes are fully immersed. You would think this kind of rubbing might damage the clothes. It would be nice to hear from a Whirlpool engineer about that.
This is not a real "dual-action" agitator with an auger rotating one direction to push the clothes down.
Got the same machine. The agitator and the impeller just wiggles the clothes in the same position the entire time. It doesn’t rotate the clothes.
We bought a regular "old school" agitator instead of this impellar type.
I love this concept but I feel like it has bugs that need to be fixed in order to make it a great machine
Do you feel like the machine agitator attachment will break the clips at the bottom of the bass
Mine worked fine seemed to be sturdy.
@@dannydanny8510 mines was acting up ,took it back got another brand .
@@dannydanny8510 thank you! The answer I was looking for and COULD not find in 5 videos, four of them just showed me how to remove/replace agitator.
@@barblacy619 that it helped!
How is removable agitator machine?
How to reduce spin rpm
I bought this one and absolutely hate it . Clothes never get pulled down , never enough water , can barely see water sometimes , using the bleach dispenser dumps bleach straight onto clothes as you pour it in and lands on dry clothes in one spot, never know when to put softener in (no light) , can't open lid to add a sock w/o a process ,And the list goes on . HATE HATE HATE IT !!!!!
Very good description. I hate this machine with a passion . Getting a Speed Queen because it has none of this bs
I have the same problem. It won't start it only says sending over and over it needs to be reset. I unplugged it then try it didn't work
I’m still trying to figure out how to start the dang machine! I’ve had it for a week and a half
Try the Deep Water setting and fewer clothes. Yeah, I went through the same craziness.
This is a good machine but
I am wondering if I need additional warranty with all this new tech.
Yeah, just because the clothes aren't tangled/moving doesn't mean it's not cleaning
Yes i tried that brand once and it didn't go to well ain't never tried it again seems washer's are getting worse instead of better
I would like to like your review video, but I can barely hear you. The washing machine though I have no problem hearing.
Noted!
i just want something simple with out all of the gimmicks.
I guess faucet option is basically a waste of time and water
I've used it for rinsing out the measuring cup/cap after adding detergent. Also handy for presoaking a stain or rinsing off your hands.

You are wrong about stopping the machine. You have to press PAUSE, not stop, to interrupt the cycle. Read the instructions.
🤮 Speed Queen Tc5 👌
It seems to me that Whirlpool produced a high-tech piece of junk. Another one bites the dust.
Not quite but almost lol. Deep Water setting and smaller loads seems to work for me. Kind of like the opposite of saving water.
@@bernardtroy33 u should see the lights, the clicking signifies that the machine is about to start. Give it some seconds. Have you read the manual / guide. Just asking.
Remember, choose proper cycle, add detergent, then clothes, and don't pile them all up or overload washer. Use HE detergent only.
Yes and I have it 5min and still nothing...I fill it with the faucet button...if I turn the machine off it drains and all of that with no problem
Still won't start
@@bernardtroy33 very strange. Who installed it? I got mine installed from the store I bought it at ( Lowes). The guys didn’t leave until they they verified that it was working properly.
This washer sucks !
Sorry to hear that. Hate it when you get treated like that. Yep, I personally know someone who bought a commercial washer, and she loves it.
I'm pretty sure that this machine is a POS! Most top load machines, these days, are a joke. If you want a good machine that doesn't use a lot of water and gets you clothes really clean, check out the GE front loaders, they do not disappoint!!!
