- Just 15km from Dundalk town, and a stone's throw from the village of Inniskeen, Co. Monaghan, a site featuring rock art in the Atlantic/Galician style was excavated in 2003 by Dr. Blaze O'Connor and her team. It is as yet the only rock art site in Ireland to have been excavated and she recommended that further research be carried out in the area since there are more examples of rock art and ancient monuments around Carrickrobin, Kilkerly and Newtownbalreagan in the area.

Tell the landowner thanks for the gracious sharing.
I will indeed Brandy!
Hi my favorite Ditch Witch Tara absolutely love this one 💯💚👀💚
Thanks Eileen, it's one of my faves too!
Fab video Tara, amazing what’s on our doorstep. Great to see it shared here, well done 👍
3:45 is spectacular.
That video was deep really enjoyed this video very interesting
Thanks Michael! I had planned to go back there for some Táin-related field research, but my to-do list just keeps getting longer and longer 😅
The "Tara Tine" logo looks great!
I like the poem too! ..."stroking the monster's back"?
Thanks Brian, I wasn't sure about it at the start so that's reassuring! And yeah, I did wonder what Paddy might have been getting up to down those fields at night 🤔
Another great video! 😀 I’m really enjoying these. A profoundly beautiful link to a deeply mysterious past. In my early career I was an archaeologist, so found this fascinating. Of particular interest was the link you mentioned between rock art and memory. A lady named Lynne Kelly has written a few books on the subject ‘The Memory Code’ which covers how standing stones, rock art and alike could have been used as an aid to memory; and ‘Memory Craft’ where she explains the practical application of such mnemonic techniques.
Great video, im glad you got permission. These are v.similar to petroglyphs in Scotland!!
I'm plunging into your channel... it's so interesting, and your sense of humor is outstanding!!
Thanks Pablo! Great to have you! Welcome aboard 😊
Martin Brennan has great insights into the petroglyphs
Very well done! I loved this.
Beautiful 😊
Beautifully put together.
GRMA Nature Folklore!
Tara I loooove your new on screen logo, it's perfect! This was breathtaking and fascinating. Call me odd but there is something about these rocks that vibrated within me. Thank you and the owner for sharing ❤🙏.
Most welcome Diane! I know, they are a true untouched treasure trove. It was so special to be able to see them in person, I feel blessed 😊
Just found this channel. Love your sense of humor, I totally get it. Keep up the good work!
Welcome in Jeff! Glad you're enjoying 😊
very very interesting
I agree. I can't believe I grew up near these and knew nothing about them!
A proper professional dig here would be very interesting - looks like a massive complex of features.
So much to find methinks....we live in a hotspot
Thank you so much! What a lovely way to start my morning. So many treasures hidden in Ireland. So important to look and really see! You never know what you might find. And I agree with Declan Kerr. You can see features in the landscape that are very compelling indeed! Thanks again!
💛 Ty that's so amazing 💛
Hi Aria! Thank you! Hope you're keeping well 😊
@@DiaryofaDitchWitch I have been better than before, after the Eclipse. I hope the same for you.
Class! Just home from Cairn L Loughcrew. Weren't sposed to be there but if you haven't been, it's incredible
I've been to Lough Crew, stunning. I'll tell you where I haven't been is Knowth and Dowth! So I'm putting them on the list.
@@DiaryofaDitchWitch ah here!!! That's a disgrace! You'll have to do knowth through newgrange but dowth you can just wonder round for free. Both class spots.. Different.. Dowth is more interesting to me, how the myth of the darkness seems to link with the kerbstones and the synodic cycles. Anthony Murphy is the man who knows all this stuff!
@@DiaryofaDitchWitch did ye do the 2nd hill in lough crew!? We were bold and trespassed but theres only aggregated trespassing in Ireland so, nothing illegal, more frowned upon..
It's magic
Loved this! :D
Heya missus! Wondered where you went, I have historian UA-camr friends recommending your channel to me 😘😘
@@DiaryofaDitchWitch went back working full time and it knocked me off track a bit. Back with a bang now 😎 and shucks, I'm blushing here ☺
Absolutely loving your channel! I was always curious about the rock art but never actually got round to looking for it 🙈 Would love to see your take on Ballymacdermot Court Cairn or some of the sites up here around Slieve Gullion in a video some day.
Thanks a mill Máire, and funny you should mention that! I was up in Killevy trying to track Moninne down recently, I'm not 100% sure where the Court Cairn is but I'll stick it on the list now and hope I get up that direction before long!
@@DiaryofaDitchWitch The well is tricky enough to find but very very worth it. You'd be climbing a steep stoney path for a while. I was there last night. Look out for the secret waterfall on the right hand side. To find Ballymacdermot, go to Bernish viewpoint and follow the road around some fun angles and bends and you'll be at it.
@@MaeraBlack I actually found the well (funny story about that, I heard a low whistle being played on the way up the path and thought we were gonna get lost to the fairies, but it was just a wizardy Gaelgeoir at the top making St. Brigid's crosses and playing his whistle and it's actually his harp playing I featured over the Kavanagh poem here!). I will get to the Court Cairn at some point this summer for sure, the problem is I don't have a car so I depend on my lovely car-owning friends and relations to get me from A to B when it's further than walking distance :-p
@@DiaryofaDitchWitch Tell me about it. I was carless for a while and with lockdown Ballymacdermot and Clontigorra were literally the only things I saw for six months. I shouldn't be whinging though. We are very lucky here. Look for all you know I'm some mad axe murderer or something but if you have trouble down the line getting a lift up this way, drop me a bell and I'll happily help a sister out. There is a husky hair issue though, as in, you'd be covered in it, and breathing it in. Anyway, keep the class content coming! You're this blazing wee beacon of facts in all the faff out there!
very interesting, hoping these ancient carved stones dont get more damaged by weather.
I think that's the price to be paid for open air art like this unfortunately. Moss etc can protect but only so much.
Amazing art. I'd love to know what it means. I like to imagine it's the ancient Irish version of yin yang that everything in the universe works in cycles and balance.
So many theories, so few facts 😭 Maybe someday science will offer us more insight.
Missing you misses xo
Chaos here, back asap x
