    Morning Chad. I once encountered Canadian geese IN MY CAR! They blocked me, even when I creeped forward. They are no joke. We had them laying around my old job. Trying to get in the front door was sometimes "an adventure ". Your white geese are beautiful though.

      @HiddenSpringFarm  Рік тому

      Oh wow! Canadian geese are wild too. A lot of animals are different when breeding but geese take the cake.

    Chad, your ancestors are finally smiling with pride from the great beyond and going "we was worried about that boy, but he finally outsmarted the psycho geese" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. As for sexing the geese show some pictures to the vet or a knowledgeable person. Solve the mystery once and for all. Curious minds also want to know.Good job 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Haha, I think what I may do is separate one male and the other girl that I think may be male. I can put them in the hut beside the barn and leave them for a few weeks...if I get no eggs then I should have my answer. But I gotta grab them without getting assassinated, that'll be a shit show lol.

    Great video. I received my 16 African Geese a week ago, I have put my 4 two week old Khaki Campbells with them. All seemed to be getting along real well. When they get older I have 6 more 1 year old Khaki Campbell’s to combine with them.

      They’re only this wild during breeding season, they will calm down especially once the snow melts and I can free range them in the orchard again they have much more space.

      Geese are only crazy for about three months out of the year. When they are hand raised they can actually be really sweet, but tend to be very protective of their "flock".

    Chad, the males will attack you when it's breeding season. They want to protect the eggs and females. Yes, two females sometimes will sit on the same nest as the eggs might belong to both if there's more than one in there. Like the new door setup. Make sure you clean that bite with antiseptic. Let's hope they will calm down after breeding season.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  Рік тому +3

      Yes they are much more relaxed when not breeding. Basically of the 4 geese, 2 are larger so I guessed that they’re males. BUT not only there is only one nest, there’s also only 1 egg every other day. PLUS only 1 female has her head feathers damaged from the mating ritual. What I think is the other female is left alone by the two males. That’s why I wonder if it’s possible there are 3 males one female. I’m still not sure I may try to put a camera and have a better sense.

    My Momma warned me about the geese, which frankly, she was always terrified of. She grew up on a farm until she was a teenager and never, ever went near any type of goose after that. Now I know why! There is one couple in Latvia who have 3 Emdens and they will only listen to and not attack the guy! They are also completely obsessed with their old car 🚙 which must remain as theirs. They don’t even go inside it as a home 🏡. It just remains in situ as a possession. They were raised from birth just as yours, and have no names. Each one of them is called a Pew Pew because of the sounds they made when younger. They are most definitely the Guard Crew and they are nuts 🥜. I still find it hard to believe that they all followed you around when you were Daddy Goose 😏

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  Рік тому +1

      I may try to separate them to really know their gender cause they could be an issue as well. I thought they were bonded with me as goslings but the breeding makes them assassins.

  • @michaelripperger5674
    @michaelripperger5674 Рік тому

    Just get 1 goose and they will bond with the other fowl.
    Since you have several geese - they bond with each other.
    Birds of a feather - flock together

    Oh my gosh! Will ducks do that as well? I have four small baby ducks but I don't know now??? 😮 I know my chickens and roosters hurt when I am pecked/pinched, but oh my stars.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  Рік тому +1

      thanks for the comment, the ducks are pretty cool actually and so are the geese. It's just for the few months of breeding season that the geese become the offspring of Satan himself lol. I may have too many males to make it even worse so I gotta figure that out.

    You could always change the door to open from the outside so you won’t have the problem of the straw jamming up entrance

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  Рік тому

      But then the snow and ice cause issues, gotta open in but need some kind of barrier inside.

    • @deleo2541

      Perhaps like a overhead mini roofing above the entrance door so that the snow doesn’t get a chance to pile up

    I have a young Emden goose who is getting to be a real brat. She was raised in the house and now she attacks us when we give her food and water. She is with a Chinese goose who is much sweeter. I don't have a gander and they aren't old enough to lay eggs, but she's still crazy!

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  Рік тому +1

      How do you know it’s a female if she hasn’t laid any eggs yet. We have 4, two are bigger so I’m guessing ganders but there is always only 1 nest and 1 girl with damaged feathers from mating. I might have 3 boys but I figure I gotta separate them to see if the other lays eggs so I know it’s a girl. Hard to tell with embdens, any tips?

    • @Ichtopia
      @Ichtopia Рік тому

      This may not help right now, but females have a darker grey down when they hatch while males are almost all yellow. They also have a different voice, which is probably hard to tell when they all honk at once, but the males have a higher pitch. This is my first Emden, so I was surprised by the squeak they almost make and I've questioned weather mine is male or female, but her behavior keeps me thinking female. I've kept Sebastopol geese for about five or six years and it was through watching them that I learned the subtle differences in voice and behavior. I really don't know a lot about Emden specifically, but I think determining gender just takes time and observation. The one female that is missing feathers from breeding may be the only hen or she is the favored hen. They only lay an egg about once every three days, so if you are getting more than that I would think you have more than one hen. I saw the bit with your genders fighting too, hens don't do that.
      Sorry so long, hope it helps a bit.

      They don't learn. I've had to wear tall rubber boots during breeding season to keep the gander off my lower legs. Just walking in to feed and water gets them in a frenzy. My gander passed away last year, so I only have hens, but they are also aggressive when protecting their nests.
