Nathan, this has to be one of the coolest reviews we've ever seen. Thank you so much!! For those wondering, the dream was absolutely real! (Heard you at the end there, too 😂) GO SHARKS!
Haha. Thanks so much, Lauten Audio! That was kind of you to say! But I must admit, that mic blew me away! I didn’t expect such an amazing product. And I’m always the happiest when I get to review small companies made up of good people making great things. It was an absolute pleasure! Cheers!
Hope to see higher end broadcast style mic like the 208 with your 38mm capsule. This mic looks too skinny, it's can be a plus, but I need it to look good on camera. The main issue I have with this mic is that it doesn't have a built in pop filter, and when I put on the windscreen, it makes the mic look like a dickhead. Looking forward to future iteration.
@@Slipsch i think you’re referring to dynamic mics like the SM7B. Totally different type of mic but I see your point. When I first saw the end-address LS-208, it seemed a bit dynamic looking. But I soon realized it has a tone that a dynamic could never possess. It sounds phenomenal. If you’re looking for a cool sounding mic that’s side-address and looks more elegant, you might like the LA-320 Tube Mic. I’m currently finishing a review on it right now and it will be released Monday.
@@TheRecordist I mean look at the Ethos, condenser mic but looks not too bad. It's small but not skinny. Look at the Earthworks SV33. It's not skinner nor small. I'm looking for the best end-address condenser to upgrade my podcast setting. The looks of the mic is important to us for the settings, tbh, SM7B looks the best, super neat, clean and cable routing is also great. But I don't really like the sound all that much. We use Neumann KMS105 last time but it's a handheld mic so we changed it, the LS-208 looks closer to handheld mic than a podcast/broadcast end address condenser.
I’m always elated when I’m looking at a new microphone and I find a video here about it. I’ve been primarily an SM7B AND RE20 user for years but the Lauten seems like the perfect blend of dynamic form factor that I’ve been used to with the clarity and performance of a condenser microphone. Something that would absolutely be perfect for my live streaming content and also a voiceover microphone. Thank you for the videos as always! ❤️
@TheRecordist that's where I first found out about it. I watched all of his and was ready to get it. Then I saw ur video and that was icing on the cake..
Great song, great mic! thanks for the review!!! That mids compression sound reminds me of how the MKH416's treble sounds compressed/saturated. Nothing else sounds like it unprocessed, great to see smaller companies innovate :)
Thanks! Agreed! I was pleasantly surprised that there was a small family company making high quality mics that actually sound super impressive. Thanks for watching!
Definitely a nice sounding mic. The name brand seems to ring a bell, maybe, or not quite. I am glad to have them on my radar now. I especially like American made, and family owned/operated. I'll be learning a lot more about them. And WOW, so many "yous" in this musical performance, plus the skit at the beginning. So much entertainment!!
Haha. Thanks, man! Yes. It’s a great company and they make amazing stuff. I truly recommend them. Not only for the quality of products but also because they’re really good people!
The greatest thing about the rejection is that it doesn't make source sound bad. Some other great rejection mics, such as the Heil PR40 (which is a dynamic) or other condenser mics in its price range, will affect the tone pretty severely. With the LS208, it just gets less loud when you are 180 degrees of the mic. I can't stop using the thing after I purchased it. I got it at a great price too. 400 euros instead of the regular 600!
I fully agree! This mic is a hidden gem! It’s got to be one of the most underrated mics ever! Maybe it’s the shape? I don’t know, but it’s easily my top 5 favorite mics of all time! You got it for a great price! Congrats!
Oh man. I love this mic a pant-load more than I thought I would. It sounds so good. It’ll cut through. No EQ needed. So weird from a front-address mic. I didn’t expect it to sound similar to a much more expensive Neumann. I fully recommend it for voice work! And into the MixPre, you’re getting a fantastic sound! Cheers!
Nice dream sequence 😂 the biggest issue I have with Lauten mics is that I can’t decide which one to buy! I want all of them! They make some very innovative designs and even here in Australia m they are relatively affordable. You should check out their LA 320 tube condenser. It’s incredible.
This was a fantastic review, written and produced exceptionally well! Thank you! Without a doubt, the LS-208 makes my short list for talking head videos and podcasts. Do you have any experience with the Earthworks Icon Pro, the other main contender on my list? Greetings from Spain and keep up the exceptional work-it's always a joy to watch your videos!
Thank you very much for your kind words! The LS-208 is one of my new favorite VO mics. It’s truly incredible. Any Earthworks is impressive. But sometimes a bit dark-which I like. It really depends on your voice. I don’t have any personal experience with the Icon Pro, though. The LS-208 has these impressive mids and midrange distortions that are so expensive sounding. I’m really impressed.
Wow, another superbly-produced, cinematic quality, delightfully funny, super entertaining best of the web video. And with the quartet back again! The problem is, now I have to spend $600 on yet another mic because of you. My wife is packing her bags and will be heading out the door soon. But something more serious: There is a major flaw in your presentation. In the kitchen scene, I believe I spotted a bowl of semi-rotting bananas on the counter behind you. What, you couldn't have bought some fresh bananas to dress the set? No so great, eh?
Hahaha. Banana bread, my friend! My wife makes banana bread all the time. It’s better when they’re over ripe. Hahaha. Sorry about taunting you will such a mic! You must resist!
You would be a pretty good salesman I guess. Thanks for this entertaining well presented review. I find the concept and the implementation of it pretty compelling. I have to record an Audiobook with 400 pages, and my little studio is not treated professionally. My biggest concern is a possible lack of background isolation and I need a warm sound. Would you recommend this mic. Its between the Lewitt 440 and the Lauten. IpWhats your take on this nerve wrecking question? Thanks again, and keep up the good work.
100% I would recommend the LS-208 over the 440 Pure. The 440 is very bright. Good for some things, but not for others. But you might like bright mics. It’s all about your voice and how you like it. If I was going to purchase a mic for an audiobook right now, and I didn’t want to spend too much, it would be the sE Electronics sE4400 (not the 4400a) or the LS-208. Hope this helps!
Muchas Gracias. And I have a darker voice which might be okay with the Lewitt. But I have the impression it sounds very sharp. No mercy with harsh "s" sounds and sibling. The Lauten seems there to be more forgiving, but I am not a Pro sound guy, an actor only. At sets I love to talk with the sound guys. They are the real "fanatics", but in a nice way.
Hahaha. Woo hoo! I am a massive mega fan of Lauten Audio. I would even go as far as saying they’re my absolutely favorite mic company of all time. Not just stellar products, but amazing people too. I love everything about Lauten Audio. What little recorders are you geeking out over?
@@TheRecordist The latest is the Bluetooth version of the Zoom f1. It records absolutely dead silence. It has a physical toggle for on off and hold. It has awesome screw locks and a metal top. The fiddly bit is that you have to have a computer or a phone app for initial setup. So sad - it has no screen to visit it's greatness upon our cortex. But once you get the initials, it stores a text-like file in the root folder and I like that cuz I'm a Linux zoomancer. I love digital. I know it is out of favor right now but digital got us to this place of being able to choose the right time and place for sinewave vs square wave. Anyway it's the toggly bits with the switch and the super light hidable size with smooth rounded corners like a Porsche. It has micro LED's to let you know what it is doing, and they are dim so they won't pop through clothes during a set. It has rubber buttons for stop back play forward. It uses any kind of battery you want. So no more "rechargeable" throw away crap with a $90 dollar battery. WOOT! Geekin' baby - Geekin'.

Man, I think it would sound good on anything. Especially cool are the high and low pass filters that work exceptionally well. The mids have a sort of compression that sounds amazing. The LS-208 isn’t a cheap mic, but it sounds much more expensive than it is.
@@TheRecordist thanks, leaning towards this one, since it cancels off axis very well, entire flute tone would not get captured. Thats what i am contemplating.. thanks for your reply :)
