This is how I adopted one of my rescues: he was thrown out on a very busy street right in front of my building. He cried all day long whenever he saw people passing by but no luck. Evening came and I was so worried about that small dog crying. I went downstairs to check him out. The rest is history, we’ll soon celebrate his fourth anniversary with his forever family. That’s how it goes: a door closes behind you and another one just opens up.
I live in the country. One day a young stray grey and white tabby was hiding in my shed,my dog found him. Anyway needless to say we took him to the vet, he checked out okay and we had him for 12yrs. I believe pets are sent to you for a reason.💖
What a happy boy. He was like “ I could either have a full-time job my whole life or hang out with you and have fun”?? “Im gonna bark at everything that moves until they release me”. 🤣🤣🤣
Our beloved black lab puppy flunked out also but became a bomb dog. Heartbreaking for us but wonderful for him. He got to work every day. He and his handler are now retired.
Dogs are more than just pets. We had four, and each of them were my four-legged siblings. Benson really reminds me of our last, Amy. Well, she was half Shepherd, so I see a lot of her in a Shepherd's face. But they are so much more than pets. They're every bit members of the family.
I always cry when I see the story of when Benson was adopted by his dad 😊 Thank you for sharing Benson with all of us. He always brings a smile to my face!
GOD BLESS BENSON and YOU, for all the happiness you bring to all our lives!💙. We recently had to give "End of Life Care" for our Vlad. He was only 6 1/2 years old! The cancer was just too aggressive. What BENSON and YOU do for us, makes us hurt, a little bit less. We WILL see our Vlad AGAIN!🙏✝️🌈🐺💯💙
This is so emotional ....❤😢🎉 ..thank God ... There's a large dog down the street who lives in a crate in a garage & the people are home all day .grrrrr..it keeps me awake at night. I am often the dogs voice.. if I hear her bark for too long ,I go knock on their door. I have called the police & animal control.
@@prisk1970 I offered to walk her & others have offered to adopt her ..( I have 5 dogs& 3 are large) They are wealthy & do not need the money.. something just seems off.Not all cultures seem to think of dogs as family & I do not know what they think she is .. A huge house . They are home all the time.. she does go into the back yard some ..but alone .no interaction or socialization. I pray for her.
I used to train dogs. And even though there is high demand for service dogs. I always thought it would be nice. If when they were not working. That they could be just a normal Dog. My dogs new when it was time to work. And time to be a dog. It was so balanced. It got to we're they did not even need a command. They could read it ??
Sometimes plans unexpectedly work, other times plans unexpectedly fail HARD and sometimes it's in-between, had Benson been faster to heal from his trauma from being abused as a puppy then maybe he would've become a absolutely fantastic seeing eye dog, happy and ready to do his duties to the best of his training. In another life, Benson probably would've made it to be a seeing eye dog, but in this life, he's just his happy doggo self!
My dog was also kept in his crate virtually 24 hours a day until he was 7 months old. Ppl don’t realize that neglect and isolation can be just as if not more damaging to a puppy’s development as physical abuse. Trauma like that during adolescence is what produces reactivity, the puppy was in a fear state it’s whole life and that becomes it’s baseline response to anything unfamiliar. Think twice before judging a reactive dog, in the large majority of cases they were dealt a very tough hand to begin their lives.
YES! Omg that’s what happened to my dog Caya I had rescued and drove two states away to give to my sister but then when she decided to stay on campus she couldn’t have her there so BACK to me where ig she was meant to be 😭but I rescued her from someone I went to HS with! This girl said her and her boyfriend broke up & she didn’t WANT her anymore! I go in there to “where she keeps her” she is mad bc the poor puppy had tried to eat through the bathroom door bc she had been trapped in there for 4 months!!! Barely any human interaction just toss a bowl of food and water in there..I kept my composure but was livid. Took years for caya not to scarf down food like she wouldn’t get it anymore & she is still over reactive & even though she’s fixed she is hyper as can be but I love her so much!
@@kerstieamiya4880 ugh that is so heartbreaking and sad how many of those stories you hear, ppl like that turn my stomach, they should never be allowed to care for an animal again after that. You should be proud for giving your dog such a good life after that, mine still has moments where you can see his anxiety overwhelms him and he will act out some from overexcitement but he is 1 million times better now. I remember when I first got him he couldn’t make eye contact with virtually any human without growling or barking, he had such little confidence the poor guy. Now he goes to daycare, goes to dog parks, goes on off leash hikes all the time with virtually no issues. He’s still skittish around some strangers in new places but it’s easy to manage now, I just ask ppl to give him his space until he settles down and becomes comfortable with them. It’s amazing how much dogs can heal when they are loved and cared for properly, It doesn’t happen overnight but with patience their lives can completely change.

I worked with a woman who got a Husky or Samoyed and she told me that she kept her dog in the crate the majority of the time. I told her he needs exercise and socialization and playtime. We lost touch but I found out years later the dog went mad and she had him euthanized. 😢

Benson, I follow you & your living family on You Tube, but just found this story about being rescued by your dad at the Dog Shelter in which he worked. My girl, Ping, was a Japanese Akita/German Shepherd cross, we adopted when she was 4months old. She was very smart & fun loving (like you). She proved so good with agility, the tunnels, see-saws, etc., making quick time. Her ‘school’ had many contacts - wanted ‘Ping’ , teamwork. Since Ping’s death, last year, I follow you & your dad - maybe dad can tell this story; no doubt he speaks your language, as I did mine (ha,ha). Love ya, JaneR
In the UK Guide Dogs for the Blind, since approx the year 2000 training has fallen to around three dogs per instructor per annum where once an instructor was able to train eight dogs per year.
A GS less than a year old can be 60 pounds of bouncing joy. Mine is gold, because we can read each other so well, now, but he's 15. He looks 100% GS, but he's a lot bigger than normal, so he may be a Shiloh Shepherd.

I love Benson but his dad has gotten real fat! holy sht how is that possible? I mean, he got his degree and then he didn't stop eating or stopped going on runs with Benson? How is it possible to let yourself go so much! America explain!!!

Benson is way too excitable to be good guide dog material. I’m surprised they tried.

I rescued a year old GSD. I soon discovered he had been taught to attack on command. But I sorted him out (though my son has scars) and I adored him.
Wow. Hopefully your son was an adult otherwise you’re an awful human to keep a dangerous dog around an innocent baby
