My new favorite you tube channel!!!!! Thank you thank you. I use Sketchup for architecture and I'm tickled pink by all of your videos. I want to one day make architectural design tutorials and you are a big inspiration.
Added homebuilder extention and gave it a try on a 8 x 12 shed. The initial walls -- the wall whose base plate goes from edge to edge on the building 12 feet -- were framed well . However, the wall the short wall (8 feet less the thickness of the other two wall) ended up framed at 16 on center, but the thickness of the other walls were not accounted for. So that the studs started 3 1/2 inches off. I had go back and move studs over 3 1/2 inches to allow the sheet good to fall on the studs.

Is there any way to frame in the house builder extension with colour like the framing generated by the profile builder extension? Maybe some way to preset different colours to the different framing structures?
@ TheSketchupEssentials I'm trying to make a shed. I'm a newbie to sketch up. After installing housebuilder, I make walls and they come out horizontal instead of vertical if that makes sense without the top plate. so when i make the walls its just 2x4's laying on the floor how can I make them vertical? Ive tried using the push pull tool to make them rise but it doesnt let me do that.

There seems to be a problem with wall tool. The stud at the 4' location should be centered over the 4' location, not to the side. This is in keeping with the 16" on center rules. Is there a fix for this?

Can someone explain to me the point of modeling the framing unless it is for actual construction design or BIM (like PlusSpec), and in that case if it's not accurate to real-world construction it's kind of useless. For archviz it seems like a lot of trouble for elements that won't be seen in the final render.
It kind of depends on what you're trying to do, I suppose. Generally speaking, I agree - if you're modeling something for Architectural Visualization, unless you're showing studs, there's really no point. I've used it before to get an idea of how many studs I'm going to need (which I suppose I could just do with math), as well as visualizing the way the assemblies come together. I'd say this is much more targeted towards actual construction than visualization. Thanks!
It helps in determining your material needs. I often build garden sheds, decks, etc and if I first build them in sketchup 1-to-1 I can then make a very precise material list and by extension, a more accurate project cost.

Unfortunately no - you could theoretically set up an extension like profile builder (ua-cam.com/video/T4wssAd8vXY/v-deo.html) to generate a bill of materials, or PlusSpec might also be able to do this (ua-cam.com/video/vCZkI5_y8ac/v-deo.html), but these two do not...
I can't seem to find the tray for house builder extension. im using sketchup 2017. It also doesnt show up in my extensions tray. I dont know if it matters but it shows unsigned in the manager... Please help. Thanks.
Did the manager allow you to install it and it's not showing up in your toolbars? If it's installed, try right clicking in your toolbars area and seeing if an option for House Builder shows up. Thanks!
Hi, I really like your videos. I installed house builder but every time I wont to make some openings (windows or doors) it's take forever. I'm using on my Alienware laptop (i9 with 1080 graphic card and 32gb ram) so shouldn't having a problem because of laptop. If you have any suggestion I will appreciate! Thanks
Sorry for such a late reply, but if you minimize the outliner tray by clicking the little black triangle next to it it makes adding windows and doors a lot faster. For whatever reason the outliner gets stupid slow when you start getting a lot of groups and components in a model.

Did it download a Zip file or an RBZ file? If it's a zip file, you're going to have to unzip it. If it's a RBZ file, you can go into your extension manager and select the option for "Install Extension" to install the extension. Thanks!
The roof framing is not realistic at all since it generates no structural components. There is a suite of plugins (payware) by a developer called Medeek. He has released plugins for wall framing, truss framing, etc. Some of it is available as trial/freeware. I use the truss plugin frequently. Check it out at design.medeek.com/resources/resources.html

Might have to do that thingy to see the thingy to do the thing to the thing . i dont know. hey ya ever load an outdated plugin in to an old windows 95 program manually well its kinda like that but you could use the ruby installer to do it for you if you knew where the plugin directory was umm mmmm but y do that if you rename the zip file you get to see after you do that thing to the thingy and fill out a form 10 lines deep then y download the zip and change the extension to .rb somethin or some such and just drop it in tha extention folder on the thing then restart and wallla simple unless you picked a diff dir on the original SU program install then hmm ,,,jimmy knows. HEY Jimmy tell this guy how to do the thing to that thing if the original SU install is in a diff location............... Its useless for decorators and amateur builders but, for a builder, a picture is worth a thousand words...

You mean because it doesn't have any trusses? You'd probably have to use something like Medeek Truss to get realistic trusses
Just move your roof skin about 200 mm up, then it is your roof sheets or roof tiles.

Hey! How to add a lumber size in housebuilder? I need to build a frame using 14.0 x 6.0 cm lumber, but there is no in extension library.
I don't remember a way to do this, but I haven't used Housebuilder in at least a year...

TheSketchUpEssentials there was both a zip and rbz. I don’t know where or how to unzip and the Rbz doesn’t show in my sketchup extension menu
