At another ‘ranch’ I set up a semi-permanent blind that I made from the boxes that large appliances (refrigerators, etc) come in. I also set up another large box such that the top flaps created a ‘chute’ into the box. A perch was set above the box and shot magpies would fall from the perch and into the box. This kept surviving magpies from knowing where their buddies had disappeared to. All this at a fenced cattle corral, using a target .22 lr at about 50 yards. In winter.
Its always the same when your hide hunting, im about to pack up,but the little voice in your head says " just 5 more minutes" and sometimes those five more mins pay off, great video mate as always ,hope you have a good xmas.
Here, in Saskatchewan, I sometimes do a similar thing. Unfortunately, a photo won’t download to Comments. A rancher hauled a dead cow to an open pasture and I was able to set up a blind at near exactly 200 yards. From there I bagged magpies, crows (solid black), and coyotes. Also got some GNCs. (Ravens are common, much disliked, and their status is…hmmm…in question. So I, personally, refer to them as Great Northern Crows to avoid argument.)
Brilliant as usual, I do the same as you at the other end of the country, I find if I do the same place more than 3 or so times a year they learn what's going on,just completed my second blank day in a row today.
Yeah i know how you feel as i've had similar blanks for a few Saturdays for some reason or another even though i've tried on different farms and you start to wonder what your doing wrong then all of a sudden you'l get a day when the birds seem almost suicidal their that keen to land. Just keep at it and if you blank try decoying them somewhere else or change your decoy set up like trying a magpie decoy instead of a crow or no decoy and just bait.
Merry Christmas brother, to you and your family. Not quite time for Christmas dinner just yet here where I am in the states, but I know it's going to be a good one :-)
Its a 20gr v max with Vectan sp3 powder as it was the only powder i could get, in a reloaded Hornady case with a CCI primer, but i'm starting to fire form some PPU .22 hornet cases to get better brass as the Hornady cases aren't great.
I was looking at getting a 17 Winchester super magnum a few years ago as dealers were starting to get the rifles in but thats as far as it got as i don't think they ever manged to get the ammo in and i've never seen them for sale here in N'Ireland since.

Done very well David, fantastic them 17-hmr's. you say yours is a centre fire,,, mines a rim fire,,, never new you can get a centre fire😉👍
Its not a HMR its a hornet so its not a rimfire
Well it's actually not a 17hmr as its based off of a .22wmr rimfire cartridge while the .17 Hornet is based off of a .22 Hornet center fire cartridge.
Love that Hornet! Happy New Year 🥳
Thanks very much and a Happy New Year to you.
