In the 80s everyone was making elaborate videos on location or with special effects. This video stands out because it is a perfect match for the song: chilling, haunting and ethereal. This was a great simple choice to showcase Annie's emotions... Annie would do this emoting again the video for "Why" though she has a costume in that one! Thanks for posting!
Probably my favourite album. God knows how many cassettes, albums and cd's I've gone thru since my teenage years in 84. It's now uploaded onto my I-phone. Ha! DoublePlusGood.
The chilling darkness of this song always gets to me. The threatening vocoder creeping up from behind the fragile voice so perfectly reflects the character from Orwell's masterpiece. Still cannot understand how on earth Michael Radford could dislike their film score (which is even more sinister than what made in to their official "1984" LP), so in case you can find the DVD version of the film with Eurythmics' music featured in it, grab it. It complements the mood of the film to great effect.
Incredible beauty of melody, voice and image. Annie still is the unsurpassed queen of pop music regarding her unique combination of musical talent, expressiveness and timeless gorgeous looks.
Finally, I’ve been looking for this for years & despite YT searches it never showed up. It is probably my favorite song ever. Thought there were not many people that liked the song since I never heard it on the radio, then I see all these other people who also loved this song. The whole1984 album is great.
Two words describe this video "radiant" and "soulful" and if there is a third it would be "haunting." Mix it all together and you would get "beautiful."
So beautiful. The supreme Muse and quintessential artist. Absolute respect for both of you, just listened to an old flexidisc with the TVP "theme", incredible.
@VariantStg3....great point! Both Animal Farm and 1984 warned about Stalinist communism/totalitarianism. See far too much these days, that remind me of those two books.
@teopless This video was taken from the Eurythmics video collection that was on VHS and DVD some years ago. In-between each video they had little short "mash-ups" of some of the videos on the collection.
Cold War music, as Darwingodwin wrote. Beautiful, talented Annie. Teenage me loved and admired her. So long ago it all seems. Keep going, wonderful Annie.
@tall32guy Could'nt of said it better. Simply superb voice and incredibly beautiful lady here. Ahhh... what I would have done to buy her a drink back then!
The Ministry of Love was the really frightening one. There were no windows in it at all. Winston had never been inside the Ministry of Love, nor within half a kilometer of it. It was a place impossible to enter except on official business, and then only by penetrating through a maze of barbed-wire entanglements, steel doors, and hidden machine-guns nests. Even the streets leading up to its outer barriers were roamed by gorilla-faced guards in black uniforms, armed with jointed truncheons -George Orwell
I was at school with Suzanna Hamilton she was a always friendly and had a very honest smile, i would tease her quite often because she spoke correctly unlike myself being a Pimlico boy.was it really 36+ years they seem to have gone so very fast.
@darwingodwin The cold, the grey... reaching across the walls beyond the abyss of the establishment's control, ever believing in love. This is a song of hope, above all. Doubleplusgood.
1984 is my favorite album they ever recorded and this is my favorite song from that album. *sigh* Something about it is so beautiful and haunting.
This is a Beautiful ,haunting song. Annie Lenox kills it!!! Love this woman❤ Shes an Amazing Artist.❤❤❤❤

Probably the best track Eurythmics recorded. and the video suits it well
This video and the novel/movie it is based on are so appropriate for today. A cold wind us blowing from a direction many did not anticipate.
Amazing voice and amazing eyes....She's an angel on earth.
More like hell.
@@l30ng62 What a weird comment. Quit being such a Fatalist.

Great song to listen to on a cold winters night.
Was and still there. Still the most beautiful ballad.
Perfection. Love this song and video SO MUCH!!!
My favored song Julia!
Probably a very surreal and etheral experience with all those combined, I bet! :)
what a beautiful song :) its in 1984 movie ... reminds me of a winter wonderland of sledding hills of womanly curves
@VariantStg3....great point! Both Animal Farm and 1984 warned about Stalinist communism/totalitarianism. See far too much these days, that remind me of those two books.
So sinister and tragic like waiting for winter and its onset
Seems apt as a mourning cry for Haiti just now. Recall playing this lots on a video jukebox when I was stationed at Ramstein, Germany.
My favourite Eurythmics song !

Stupenda..

Yep. I still remember some pieces of the year 1984 as well.

Annie has the most interesting face ever. Beautiful ❤

During the Cold War. I wandered around West Berlin listening to this track on my Walkman, smoking Lords cigarettes and freezing...
I wish I-Tunes carried this amazing soundtrack NOW.

How beautiful!
Something from my very distant past
This song makes me feel the futility of life.
Love you Annie:-)
Great track...
beautiful woman
A DREAM!

You must have been in the service during Reagan......
I've many times asked myself the same question! LOL
