- Welcome! Quite new to the PoE2, I had a bit late start to the game been playing for the past 2 days or so and already loving it! I am known with my d4 necromancer builds and trying to learn poe as quickly as possible so I can start to theory craft! I have been having a blast with this build, by the time you are watching the goal is to finish act 3 and give you guys an update. Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback and ways of improving this going forward!

Woah! Nearly 20k views in under a week-thank you to all the new PoE players for checking this video out and for all the helpful information shared in the comments! I've completed the campaign with this build, but I’m still not confident enough to share or make a full guide yet. If I’m going to make PoE2 videos, I want to have a solid understanding of the game, not just put something out there to boost my viewer count.
If you’d like to stay in touch, please consider subscribing. One way or another, I’ll soon be ready to create guides and contribute meaningfully to this space.
In the meantime, while I’m taking my time, I’ve seen other creators cover similar builds-one, in particular, stood out to me as very strong and min-maxed. I learned a lot from his video and wanted to share his work to give him more exposure. He really knows what he’s doing, and I think you’ll find it helpful too!

I am rocking a Dot AoC Monk at the moment as well. I'm only level 45 and nearly through act 3, but I am having a blast. I have plans to make adjustments in the future but currently I am using g contagion, essence drain, Hand of Cahyula with despair and the frozen mark on it, dark effigy with the support gem that reduces chaos resistance of enemies hit. I have speced into all three nodes that increase power charge limits and I am using the culling strike and profane ritual to generate those charges and I am using the lightning slam ability to spend them with 21 additional lightning bolts shooting out for a huge hit. It is immensely satisfying to level with. Eventually I'm going to move away from the power charges and the lightning slam and lean into cold and freeze generation using ice strike as my filler between Dot applications. I'm looking forward to it. It is not a face roll spec by any means, but it is a blast and it is incredibly satisfying to watch bosses health deplete continuously so long as I keep my sweat of afflictions up and rolling. I am enjoying the challenge
@@Horizons372 thank you for this comment! Yea i have ended up reaching these conclusions as well! I have started experimenting with other builds since then but i saw JustAnthony had a really good chayula chaos monk build, i think he really perfected it!
For mana leech, if you spec into the acendancy for "into the breach" flames of chayula will begin to spawn naturally as you travel. There are 3 if them, red recovers your health, up to 14% hp leech every time you pick one up, blue is the same affect for mana. I plan on getting the acendancy node where mana leech restores your energy shield, I haven't gotten to that point yet but I am assuming that would allow the blue flames to restore your shield. The 3rd flame, purple, gives you a bonus of 14% chaos damages added to your attacks, stacking up to 10 times. There is an element of randomness to the flames spawning, so it is difficult to maintain those stacks indefinitely.
Cool build and good to see you in PoE2 !!
Keep it up. I was doing the lightning build on the monk, but things didn't work out because this is my first time playing this game and I didn't realize that in this early access there isn't good melee crit builds on the monk. I change to this build and look forward for your future videos in your journey of DoT Monk.
check out rax's new video. Ice strike with quite a bit of crit
@@scottxiong5844 hey man, thank you! And i want to report that build somewhat feels meh. Full transparency. It seems like essence drain, and hexblast route seems to be an inefficient way to play this. It works yet it’s comparatively inefficient. I am going to continue playing and see where it goes though
@@layonduff I come from a OP crit dmg in MMO games and or MOBA games. I have limited knowledge in crit in PoE2, but from the skills stats and understanding crit mechanics from the PoE2 devs from the Official Discord server, I just don't think crit is all that great in PoE2. Hence, I gave up my lightning crit build if that was even a thing :D.
lightning monk here full crit shock 30k dps most broken class rn
Im a total PoE noob, but i like to theory craft and working on my monk as a Chaos DOT/melee hybrid. Im only around lvl 30 right now but my go to is the dot spreading like your using and then using tempest flurry to mulch through enemies as they melt around me.
You and me both going for the same thing. As a PoE noob myself i really enjoyed the contagion and essence drain mechanics however it seems to be not as strong as other things.
@LordxSaura the lastest patch plans shows it would get a buff but not sure how much and there are ways to make it stronger too. Will take some time to figure it all out
@@WildAce001 I saw that as well! Chaos skills def need a buff, so looking forward to the patch notes!
Saura! didn't know you were doing this, I wanted to do the same thing after getting bored of running maps with Invoker and being curious about "into the breach" and "flames of chayula". Did you know that poison in this game is an ailment? That's why there's no resist for it like in Diablo, or so it seems at first glance.. I bet you would never guess that the ailment "poison" does it's damage via chaos damage over time (and phys dmg!) ! I'm every bit as green as you are at this game, but have found some resource materials I can share with you. I'm running a bow/quiver using poison skills, and a wand/focus with occult chaos skills. I'll send you some stuff when I get a chance.
Your monitor looks amazing
Thank you! I am using a wide screen monitor, specially bought for arpgs :D
I have reached act 3 and am still waiting on Hexblast to really pop off. Despair with Decaying Hex, Impending Doom, and Improved Hex is bringing me up to 44% reduced Chaos resist on enemies
@@HollowTomajikate are you doing a similar setup? Is DPS still not living up to your expectations?
i think the chaos caster will be better in later levels but chaos bow build is valid from lvl 1 so a decent starting point. In POE 1 it is very common to use a similar damage type build early and swap into another later, you just take the shared passive tree nodes early and maybe respec a few points later. Some weapons/skills are just better right out of the gate.
Similar to what you were saying was exactly what I researched. Its a lot more difficult to scale this damage in this early game and it scales much harder later on.
What weapons would you say its better early game?
@@LordxSaura any starter can pick a bow - lightning arrow/lightning rod and cruise till lvl 14 easily and then change to anything pleasant for their passive nodes.
I am playing this with qstaff and hand of chaluya with curses and crit damage.
Its rough. Low damage untill you get into all the chaos damage and crit nodes. Survival is pretty okay with darkness and evaison
@@NimbusTheCloud that seems to be a better way, i wanted to make something with more caster feel but melee physical direction seems to be the more efficient way
Corpsewade boots could add an additional chaos dot. Maybe look into other synergies in gear?
@@0707RD thank you for the suggestion. Yea i have been trying to see all the available options
Just reading the text on the ascendancy passives. The chaos damage only applies to melee hits. As of now your only options are quarterstaffs or maces.
Where does it say melee? I only see 'hit'
@@CocoHunter-f5t yea it only says on hit, do you know if essence drain or hex blast benefit from that? Or its much more efficient with physical melee hits
@@LordxSaura the direct damage would apply, but not the damage over time.
@@kraytor93 so hexblast should actually work just fine with that combination?
@@LordxSaura I’m pretty sure hit only applies to melee attacks
That Geonor kill you described as “melting” was very, vary far from melting. I have rolled about 9 characters just experimenting with things and I have to say your kill was quite slow. You did seem to have decent sustain though at least.
@@jordanparis964 i agree with that, as i play more and experiment with other builds and classes as well, i can see the essence drain dps is comparatively low.
@ You also had no investment into damage nodes at all from what I remember which makes a pretty huge difference early on.
I’m kinda disappointed in dark monk. I heard you can change acemsendancy upon completing the chaos trial so I’m gonna have to switch. I hoped acolyte would be more of a bruiser dot melee thing. Looked at mind over matter and that double curse node and thought I could go that direction but everything I’m seeing it just seems like a wow shadow priest
Yea I definitely see this angle. I personally always really loved playing shadow priest so was kind of happy to replicate that in PoE2 but as a class identity being more Monk like, it definitely does not seem to have those melee dot bruiser aspect
you cannot change your ascendancy in poe2.
Do you think you could play melee chonk with the reality rending ascendance node? That gives you flat chaos damage on hit which you can buff with the other chaos nodes in the passive tree like Event Horizon and Sphagettification? I was thinking of running a physical build with Gust, Whirling and Bell; then adding that chaos damage on top also buffing it with Into The Breach. It's just a theory at the moment as I'm not that far in but I don't want to get to that point and brick my character ^^
The only hope for melee chaos build was CoC hexblast but they nerfed trigger gems
Yes. This is the exact build I’m running and it’s working wonderful. The bell with whirling assault and the added chaos damage deletes mobs and bosses. And I’m in act 2 of cruel difficulty. Also has very fast stun build up on bosses so you can get three to four pure dps phases while the boss is stunned.
I found putting the support gem that gives 60% chance to poison on whirling assault added a ton of dps. Couple that poison with all the chaos damage increases in the passive tree and you’re going to be pretty comfy
@@RAHxD0G Could you post your build plz, hoping see it
@@RAHxD0G Do you know how can you scale the speed of Whirling Assault ? I want to make it faster
@@RAHxD0G yea as i looked into it more, this seems to be the meta way for acolyte. I wanted to make something that feels like shadow priest but its definitely feels far more inefficient
you want to shock with monk after hit with chaos shocked enemies take 20% more dmg depending on your magnitude.
Thank you for this advice, yea I have seen that as I progressed.
An ad for Diablo Immortal, how dare you, UA-cam.
:D UA-cam algorithm placing diablo immortal ad on a POE2 video to sabotage my channel!
Was hoping for a melee chaos damage character....picking this ascendancy made me reroll warrior.
I wonder if there is a way to make chaos warrior who also does shadow dot 🤔🤔🤔
Melee/Physical and chaos damage monk works. I’m using it now in cruel difficulty with no problems
I think chaos monk is literally a bait, there are no melee skills that are good to support it. I just bricked my monk with lmao. Only possibility is playing as caster, but i wanted being one i would just play a mage, not a monk.
That is fair, yea that's what pushed me to building with more casting abilities. I was struggling to find melee monk abilities that were scaling with chaos damage
@LordxSaura also monk chaos skills need some rework, that chaos aa enchance is straight up garbage, having to activate it each time for meager aa just sucks
@@LordxSaura As a chronomancer, This will be my next build well done.
It’s not about having no skills that support it. It’s about the added chaos damage to your normal attacks and skills from what I’ve experienced so far.
I’m running a pure physical attack with the bell and whirling assault and taking most of the crit and chaos damage increase passives. Slapped then support gem that gives me 60% chance to poison on hit on whirling assault and I’m destroying bosses in cruel difficulty
@@RAHxD0G how come its not about it, there are two chaos skills yet they barely do shit. That skill with aa enchance should be atleast spirit skill that enchances all autos with chaos and one dedicated chaos skill as core
Trouble is, the only chaylua monk build that works for endgame is just a hexablast witch build. Chayula needs and rework to make it more interesting. Nothing about it has any interesting mechanic. It's worse than chronomancer in terms of usefulness.
This is what I am finding out as well. You somewhat become a budget version of hexblast witch build
i think in general the issue is AoC is bad at everything compared to others. the darkness mechanic is really bad considering you sacrifice spirit for it. for chaos dot its still way better to be pathfinder. for melee its better to be the other monk ascendancy. i mean the other monk ascendancy have insane damage, aoc has scrappy poopoo ascendancy nodes. its at least not bloodmage is all that it has going for it.
It definitely seems like not the meta way to build that's for sure. Pathfinder looks interesting, I will have to check!
I'm cooking on the monk, the darkness was the 1st nodes I took free defensive layer in the campaign was huge stacked evasion stomped the campaign. Respec on 2nd ascendancy for full breach then grabbed mana leech is instant and now playing maps planning on the chaos increase last
@@PPG87 How is the leech working for you? I assume you are not doing full dot since leech does not work with dots right? If so what is your main DPS source? With insta leech, do you also plan on doing the mind over matter?
@@LordxSaura I'm just mainly using ice strike with the bell and flicker strike, I don't think you can properly scale chaos damage till really late... hoping for some end game chaos q-staves
@ i see! Yea i was not happy with the aesthetics of that. I wanted it to look more like shadow etc and felt more like darkness damage
Yeah I’m 90% sure chaos monk just isn’t finished yet sadly. There are only a handful of chaos skills, the monk skills are neet but not practical. Hand of chu is cool but has bad aoe they should add maybe a dot aoe to it and mantra of destruction imo needs a full redesign , needing to build combo to get a buff and then using that lack luster buff to kill something to get another buff that only lasts 6 seconds is too many hoops to jump through
I can actually see that. That was my initial reaction, when i looked over the quarterstaff skills etc. I immediately thought "okay, i am supposed to be a dark, chaos monk however there are no practical dots I can use here" hence leading the way to the occult skills.
a lot of the chaos skills will come from shadow class aka dagger so when that class releases it will revitalize the idea of chaos melee monk, but in the mean time bow is also solid with chaos/poison
@@jaysmither5498 there are still 2 skills missing in the quarterstaff tree I'm hopeful that they are choas based.
yeah when they add Shadow this build will be better. he had DoT in his ascendency
😩😔
First!
