    I bought mine new with 14 miles on it in 2014. It now has 176,000 miles, and other than two broken clutch cables and a broken wire on the variable valve timing solenoid it has needed nothing other than maintenance.
    40 mpg, drives like a go cart, and is as easy to work on as a lawnmower. Best car I ever owned.

    I have a 2014 with a CVT. I bought it brand new. I now have 96,000 miles and I’m ready to get rid of it. Try getting on the highway with the AC on… or city driving with AC on. It’s rough. I test drove a forte GT manual and placed an order for a 2023 forte GT manual in sporty blue. It was so much stinking fun to drive a manual transmissions are the only way to go.

    I’ve got a CVT 2019. Bought new in October of 19, currently at almost 70k miles of Lyft and Doordash abuse. Changed trans fluid at 60k and installed a custom intake for the honk noises, and the thing is amazingly reliable. I’ve added LED headlights for night visibility as well and it just keeps on keeping on. 45-55 mpg consistently.

      @G C Let me put your mind at ease. If you want to see what these things can handle, look up Mirages being rallied & road raced in Asia & SE Asia. They absolutely stomp these things. And, for an additional bit of peace of mind, look up people trying to blow the Suzuki 3-bangers in the Metro. I’ve owned 3 & I can tell you without a doubt that there’s plenty of reasons why they have a cult following. They’re crazy durable. Finally, if all that isn’t enough, look up the couple from Minnesota that traded in their 2014 Mirage with 414k on the odometer. I think people bash these things because deep down inside, they know that they were the ones who were had when they bought the gas hogs they’re driving.

    Other than wishing 1st gear wasn’t so flat, I have no complaints about these vehicles. I’m on my second one & absolutely love them. However, someone had mentioned in a video that a lot of the peak performance out of this engine is in the 3-4K range. Truthfully, that felt weird because it really starts to growl above 3 grand but, once you get onto routinely running it like that, it’s a hoot to drive. The negative reviews are bullshit. This is not me trying to justify my purchase. My second one is a 2022 in Mercury Grey. I love the redesigned nose & I love the red stitching in new seat pattern. I have a 2014 year 5 speed manual, constantly getting 58 miles per gallon in summer and about 45 m/g during cold winters here in Canada. Mine has close to 400.000 miles on odometer, never had any issues as I do change oil religiously every 4000 miles and constantly add a little bit of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant with every gas tank fill to counteract the dryness of gasoline loaded with ethanol. A buddy of mine has driven his honda fit over 700.000 miles doing the same thing as I do. The car industry doesn't want you to know this little trick to extend the life of your engine.

    Mitsubishi made the move to predominantly SUV's and crossovers. However with gas prices being what they are and increased economic strain....I foresee a resurgence of the econo-box segment and the econo-sport sub-segment a'la the mid-late 80's.
    I think in earnest the Mirage may be Mitsubishi's future saving-grace.
    A lot of automotive publications dumped on the Mirage. However, long-term owner reviews and even independent interviews and mechanical reviews of the Mirage have little to nothing negative to say.

      @@theAsterisk I just bought a 2021 Mirage. When they're brand new with very few miles, the clutch and shifter feel weird, almost like they're supposed to be light switches. It's also difficult to adjust to taking off in first gear in this car because the engine needs to rev a bit more than a four-cylinder, but not much more, and the sound is different too. Unlike a V6, though, you don't have mountains of low-end torque to forgive your bad technique, so you really have to learn how to do it over a few hundred miles, and from what I can tell he's doing the video with no driving experience in the car.
      Once you've put a few hundred miles on the thing, it starts to feel more normal and you get used to shifting and applying correct throttle.

      Honestly, I’ve never personally owned a manual car. I’ve driven a bunch, probably between 15-20 but I’ve never had the chance to truly get comfortable in one. Regardless, I didn’t have any issues with this Mirage so I wouldn’t expect you to have any either. The shifter is clunky but the clutch is one of the easiest I’ve ever used. Hope that answers your question!

      This car is perfect for that. My first manual shift car was a 1989 Honda Civic HF hatch. It was a 2100lb,4speed, 70hp manual transmission.

    • @theAsterisk
      @theAsterisk 3 роки тому +1

      Yes. I hadn't driven stick for a decade (and had only done it for a couple of months then), and wanted to get back to it, so found a used 2015 Mirage manual for about $5K (pretty good for local prices). Took maybe two days to get back in to it. The clutch is light enough you won't easily wear out your foot. Motor gives plenty of audible and tactile warning if you're starting to lug it well before you'd stall it. That slightly buzzy valvetrain and the amusingly growly exhaust will also help you get used to listening for your shifts instead of being tied to the tachometer once you're ready for that, too.
      It's honestly a very friendly car to a new owner or driver. The only really bad thing is the paint- it's kind of thin. I'd get it in black or white if you can, to make chip and scratch repair easier.

      It’ll be tougher in this market but at the time of this video, that’s the price they’d often go for. Now it’ll be closer to 14-17k after taxes but who knows, maybe a dealership will have one sitting for a while that they’re trying to get rid of and go lower🤷🏻‍♂️ just gotta look around

      Check out your local inventories brother, you’ll find the dealers and manufacturers discounts often posted there. Also make sure you find all the discounts and incentives that you’d qualify for before hand since there are a lot of them for the mirage. That should get the price down quite a bit, and you can negotiate after that as well. Check out the video where I talk about the buying and negotiation process for my car, that may help as well. Good luck and thanks for watching!
