Watched your video for the first time. You are absolutely amazing, love the work and the fact that you continued on. I learned a lot just from the one video. I have now subscribed to your channel. 🇬🇧
No equal to experience. You obviously have some, and thanks for generously sharing it with us cyber-scavengers. Charming little box. But the way you saved it and making the jamb chucks was even better.
It's really great to see a video with a bit of a problem but then a solution comes out of it and all is right. Many thanks for posting and showing us beginners that it can happen to anyone...
I have heard the saying the mark of a true craftsmen is not the work they do but how well they can fix there mistakes. That's what I seen in this video. You are a true craftsmen Robbie. Thanks for your time and knowledge. It does not go unappreciated. Looking forward to seeing your next video.
I only started turning in 2020 at the age of 65. Love your videos which have helped and given me the confidence to turn and enjoy the process regardless of mishaps. As you say it's only wood and better than throwing on the fire. Thanks Robbie.
Hi Robbie, thank you very much for your video. For those who are starting in the woodturning , it is often difficult when you make a mistake and we observe that experienced people, like you, also make their mistakes. Congratulations for showing us how to get around adversity. I would like to thank you for your guidance, even showing the things that don't work out, because that's typical of big people, of people who don't have their vanity registered. I wish you success and a big hug from Brazil and stay with God.
Wonderful job Robbie. Thank you for leaving the repair in, it helps everybody. I've just used a different piece of wood so it looked like I did it on purpose lol Take care, Carl
Robbie that was an Official Field Engineering Design Change. Nice save on the little guy. I haven't cut through the bottom of one yet because I am to scared to get that thin. You taught me the box and a great method of repair. All kinds of good stuff. Then the lid finish at the end. Bravo!
Great job Robbie! A great recevery from an over zealous bit of parting off. Good of you to show mistakes and how to recover from them. It's a lovely little box. You've inspired me to make one!
The repair part was as good as making the box . I have two small bowls that i went through the bottom of , So i figured i would put a piece of would back in the bottom and save them I was"nt sure on how to go about it. Thanks to your repair part of the video I have a way to repair them. They were nice pieces of spalted birch. I was kicking my self for going through the bottom. Now i know they are repairable. Thanks for leaving that repair part in.
I first watched this video when it was published almost three years ago when I first got the turning bug with my first lathe. Now, after watching probably every turning video and channel on UA-cam , I think its safe to say that Robbie has to be one of the finest turners out there. As we come to the end of another year Robbie, I would like to wish you every health and happiness for the new year. I raise my glass to a master...
Loved that video Robbie it just goes to show that instead of getting annoyed with it and your self you showed all the newbies that's it can be fixed and if you didn't tell anyone they won't know and it's a great little box keep up the great vids Cheers Robert
Great looking little box Robbie. Thanks for showing the save. Recently turned my first box and it suffered the same fate, but without the save. Thanks for sharing. Fred
Published on Jan 24, 2014 here is a demonstration on how to turn a small lid ash box. Here is a link to my new web blog site i hope to up date with more photo robbiethewoodturner.net here is the link to the wood turner that showed me how to turn this box benoitaverly.com/home/
Thanks for another great instructional demo Robbie, has a very very new woodturner I appreciate you more experienced turners sharing your wisdom keep up the great work once again thanks Harry.
Excellant job again Robbie, I have thrown away many, many projects with holes through the bottom!!!. I will now try out your repair. Thanks for all your help and advice. Chris.
My hat off to you sir for continuing to turn even though whatever it is that causes your hands to shake like that must be an easy enough reason/excuse to stop. Also, for showing that we all make mistakes. Another thumbs up. :)
Thanks for that Robbie You had me sitting on the edge of my seat and holding my breath as you re did the bottom. Its good to see the experts sometimes have a stuff up. Cause I have lots.
Nice job Robbie. I do a fare few saves. It adds character and you don’t feel so disheartened when you know there is a way so save a piece. Many thanks take care. David
Many thanks Robbie for a great video. The making of the jam chucks was especially helpful as sometimes I get a little impatient when I should be making them but I can now see their true value. Looking forward to your next video. Best wishes, Alan.
I don't know why, but I thought of Clementine. Reviewing the lyrics it hadn't been little boxes, but herring boxes, oh, I'm getting old, memory's fading... Nice rescue of your little "bottomless" box. As you said, the ladies love these boxes, for us it's better they get a bottom, otherwise it'll cost a fortune to fill it with the neat little presents for Valentine's Day. Thank you for sharing your mistakes, I'd rather call them mishaps, and the fixtures. I think, I do learn the most out of my mistakes, and I am always glad to see other people's mistakes, as they save my wood and leave more room for my own ones. (Forcing one of these little boxes onto a slight tapered and therefor too big jam chuck, the box ended up exploding on me, as soon as I tried to finish the base). Another great (little) project also for us turners with low end equipment like me. Thank you Robbie for sharing. Greetings from Good Old Germany Peter
Really good job robbie I was peeking through my fingers as you were turning the bottom haha amazing come bk learnt a lot especially as I am a new woodturner take care x
This was a nice "little" skill building project. I did it out of a small piece of maple I picked up in the woods. It turned out great and the jam chuck experience was helpful.
Very nice. Got to learn a bit more than I expected. Now I will give it a try minus the bottom problem I hope. If I do blow through the bottom I will get to do a repair!
thank you for all your videos Robbie. I tend to watch them several times. I have just recently gotten back into turning and i have learned a lot from watching you.
Hi Robbie, I’ve watched all your videos and have learned a great deal from your work.. You inspired me in my early days and Im sure I’m not the only amateur turner out there that loved the way you explained each part and process of particular project, a true teacher that connected with the camera like no other. You haven’t posted anything for a while now, are you okay? Can anyone shed any light on Robbie? My best wishes. Craig.
excellent video Robbie fantastic work and thank you for the repair idea i have tossed a few projects away cos i have done that not anymore thank you again

Very nice! Love the "rescue", honestly never considered that! What gear do you use to video and edit? I really enjoy your videos please continue the great work!
I hope it isn't offensive for me asking, but what causes your hands to shake? What is it called and does it cause you any issues in turning? Your work is amazingly good and helpful to guys like me who are just getting into the hobby

Great little vid R, proves we don't have to make anything world-changing every time we turn.
