It was a disaster waiting to happen, I thought. There is no way that this team can be successful this early. Look at how they've assembled their team: They're focused on tanking for the future. Would you call this the jinxing powers striking again? Or just me being an idiot? I'll just call it the latter and call it a day.

The reason hockey is actually sticking here is Vegas was DESPERATE for a pro sports team. The locals basically said this: i don't know hockey but since we are getting a team I will learn it. Jerseys are everywhere in that town, they want a team and hockey gave it to em.

Vegas has been absolutely begging for major league sports for decades. This is also why VGK will continue to get great attendance. People are thrilled to have someone to root for.

I think the mid 90's Panthers expansion teams proved in hockey momentum is a real thing and these gms are picking the right players from teams and it helps they got a coach of their 2 star players ...they basically are a better version of what the Panthers were the last few years ...
I think the biggest reason is just the way they selected. A lot of young, skilled players who were never given the ice-time in their franchises. They do not have a single player that is coasting as some players normally do when they get their big extension. Selected a lot of unproven players on deals that are soon to expire and they know that those players are the ones who are looking to prove themselves and get paid.
It's a young to mid aged group of guys all hunting to be the next big thing in Vegas. Everyone on that team is giving it their best every single night and anyone who performs is going to get ice-time. None of this Guy Boucher nonsense where the veterans get the ice-time no matter their level of play.

part of what made the golden knights good is that the eventual owner of the team had a stockpile of money set aside for a team, they had an area ready to go well before the NHL even announced the expansion, and it was all bankrolled with little-to-no public money being used

Happy to see hockey expanding and growing. This winning squad will do wonders for the sport as people in Vegas and around the country love supporting an underdog, especially when the underdog keeps winning. Flyers fan here but I’m happy for them and hope the go far and maybe win a cup this year (unlikely but it would be a great story)

The Golden Knights certainly have to have one of the most impressive first years of existence ever, in any sport. Most expansion franchises suck hard in year one, even if they can get it off the ground in 3-4 years. Leading the Western Conference and second only to the Lightning in the NHL? I'm extremely impressed.

I’m honestly inspired by this team. Everyone counted them out during the off-season and yet here we are. Since the Rangers are missing the playoffs, I’m pulling for you Vegas! (still a Rangers fan tho)
Actually, not everyone counted them out. Midway through the season I finally got around to watching a season preview I had recorded on NHL network just before the season started. The analysts on the show - especially Barry Melrose - thought Vegas could be quite competitive. In fact, he said it could be detrimental to their longer-term success to be too good right now and not get really good draft picks.
Went to the Kings v. Golden Knights game in LA. Tough loss in OT, but hey, it was one hell of a OT

I doubted this team too. I was surprised at how good they turned out.
As a local Las Vegan, I used to follow our minor league team the wranglers, it was exciting to hear were getting a team back in 2014 and everyone was excited. Everywhere I go now I see someone here that has a golden knights hat or shirt. People here are starting to love this team including myself. They are an exciting team to watch, because they keep breaking expectations, by just play good hockey it's awesome! Where ever we go this I'm proud of this team :)

I live in Vegas and we went to a Golden Knights game shortly after New Year's. It is an AWESOME experience. I've been to NHL games before, but this is on another level. There's so much support and energy from the crowd. Even the away fans were having a great time despite their team losing, lol.

I was a fan of this team since I heard the news of the NHL expanding to Las Vegas I thought they would be somewhat competitive but this is unbelievable this season well the are definitely making themselves popular with the local residents of Las Vegas

After reading Sean Avery's book ( I know not words that I thought I would ever utter) He mentions that having a hockey game in Vegas was one of the worst ideas the league had; they put 2 showcase regular season games there at the beginning of one nhl season. Almost all players on the kings partyed and went to the strip club and nobody took the games seriously. You are starting to hear now that teams are booking their team hotels far away from the strip to avoid any temptations. If you look at their home season, you can reasonably expect that when most teams came to Vegas for their first away game at the arena they probably did the same and treated it more like a vacation and partyed it up. Now teams are starting to take it seriously, but the temptation is obviously still there. No discredit to Knights play of late this season, they are truly dominating... but it doesn't hurt to have this aforementioned home advantage in your favor.
Not wrong to say by any means, but the fact is the Knights are either the best team in all of hockey or at worst the second best, so home, away, doesn't matter. Knights are 6-1 at home during the playoffs with a blown call away from being 7-0 and 6-2 on the road, clinching all three series on the road so far.
