  • The original design is called 'The Brain' by Frank Frazetta.
    This is a basic demonstration of how to paint in the style of the great Frazetta. He mainly worked with oils in this style of paintings, so this is likely not exactly how he did it but hopefully serves as an aid.

    Nice work and very challenging to do in acrylics. I have tried to copy two of his paintings so far in oils. I have studied him quite a bit and never found any information that he used glazes in the classical sense the way Boris and other fantasy artists do. He usually used fairly thin paint. He generally painted most of his paintings in a single session although he sometimes dried them in the oven to add more layers. He was also known to revise them after publication at which time he might have added glazes. Of course since you are doing acrylics, it is a whole different process.
