You are training him right I mean u get up and down and hop before getting on so all good in my opinion you also have a snaffle I appreciate that, I agree not the safest place but you do you , but other than that awesome job just my opinion i wouldn't walk on his first ride just because I like to slowly slip it in but all their own :) he is a beautiful horse also not to be rude but just saying you might find your balance if your heals are down more,
I was scared the horses was going to blow up in the pen.. but wow again .. I’m blown away. I really like how dad has continued the line of horsemanship with Blake.. teaching a child a skill like this amazing.. nice work..
This is how you do it baby boom chakalakalaks boom chakalakalaka BOOM! Great work! Blake has so much wisdom for his years. So happy to see the talent in this young person.
Expected another "make em buck and ride it out" but this was pleasantly surprising! Very knowledgeable and that horse clearly was started correct. I'm excited to start my colt soon hahah
Blake did so well with Valentine....they really read each other well during this first encounter......it seems that Valentine is a really sweet boy and Blake knows this.....they got along so well.....That's probably one of the best first mounts i've ever seen......Kudos to you Blake.....Val really liked you....I would have too...
Just beautiful, what a great job. That horse is beautiful!! I love that your teaching Blake how to be kind to animals and patient with them. Also welding, what a great trade to learn!!
Hi Palmer family. True story: When I watch UA-cam videos, I watch them at #2 speed or I wouldn't have time to watch all I am subscribed to. The minute I click on The Farm on Route 66 videos, the first thing I do is go back to normal speed because I want to learn, because your content is so great and enjoyable, and I can't get enough of watching Blake and his horse riding/training. Gosh, that baby mule/donkey is so cute. Blake's comment about liking to stop too when he poops cracked me up! You're awesome, Blake! Valentine is a beautiful horse.
cant find your last post on my computor. but your one of the first i check for a new video. your story on hashknife# pony express made me cry happy tears. love how you rescue and help people with their horses
Minnesota Rancher. I wish I had Blake's youth again. Fun to watch! Couple safety tips though,. Put a strap between the rings on your snaffle. Not to curb the horse but to keep from pulling the bit through his mouth, if you get into a storm. Some sort of bucking strap or some such thing on the front of your saddle will help you to be able to get back and down into seat of the saddle if they buck, you won't need to haul on their mouth so hard. That feeder sticking to the side of that pen is an accident waiting to happen. Great video, keep it up!
Another awesome quality video Palmer Family! I would say Valentine did pretty well for being saddled up and worked with Blake! Have an awesome Blessed week ahead! I sure appreciate you all and your Family and channel! Always my personal best for you all! Your neighbor in the American Heartland! Mark in Iowa.
I actually rode one of my horses yesterday without my Aunt leading him, it was my first time so I just walked around in circles, his name was Blaze he just started getting trained, I never rode him before I just rode another horse who was already trained, glad to see other Begginers you also did great for your first ride ever!
Nice Work... He's doing so great for the first time mounting, i wish you have a nice upgrade with he. Hugges from Brazil, I liked so much to assist this tame, it's so cool.
@@TheFarmonRoute66 No efence, you are wonderful horsepeople!! I should not play "all-knowing" here, but I am almost 55 and I think you know it is hard to say nothing. Especially because many quarter here got kissing spins with 8 or 10 year's, because men with 100 kg really "BROKE" them with 2 year's. "Think like a horse" has a reaktive new quarter borrowed fir his one to have company since MR T died and he is lame, too. Some "Cowboy's" are just brutal, but not you. I love your gentle way to work horses and I am learning from you, too. Information exchange is not bad!!🙋♀️🙋♀️❤️❤️
Blake, teach them to back from bit pressure from the ground similar to how you flex them and get them soft laterally. Otherwise, some colts could rear or flip if you put solid pressure on their mouth and they don't understand how to respond. Otherwise, you do a great job of getting them gentle and staying gentle with them!
I like it!! The rider is a natural and environment is calm, good ingredients for making a gentle horse that can learn. I also like the feeding in trailer idea, I've had good success with that! I've broke/trained/fixed a handful of horses when in was in my teens. I haven't messed with a horse in 15+ years but hoping to get into it soon. My cattle ranch is about 4 years old and I've managed to get by without a horse until now... Hoping to train 1/year till I have 3 solid ranch horses to manage cow grazing on open range. Your videos are very encouraging as I start this process. Hope it's like the saying "it's just like riding a bike, you never forget''... hahaha! Thanks
To my way of thinking the way Blake starts on saddle with these horses having the smaller area works better. Confined area doesn't give the horse an option of running off into too much area. Good job Blake.
11:26 I’m subscribing! This is a great video super interesting and i’m learning. This father and son both seem so nice i love their attitude and how chill they are and gentle with their animals
Have you ever heard off approach and retreat? When you put weight in the saddle while the horse is moving his feet as soon as the horse stand's get down and rub your horse most importantly talk to your horse. Majority of the training like backing, turning and getting the horse to give to pressure starts with groundwork. Wish you well!
New to your farm family, I took a quick gander down yonder at some folks comments.. holy smokes, they must think this was your first day... I say well done!! You’re the trainers not the naysayers... God Bless
The only thing that bugs me is the saddle and ths saddle pad.. but your skill is wonderful. Everyone has thier own way of training!😊cows on first lesson! Awesome!!
Valentine is just the right age. It is good to handle them, rope them and their feet early, teach them to stand and hobble and work their feet. I think 2 is a little young to ride. However I understand the need to get them ready for sale instead of feeding them. Blake is making a great trainer and has obviously been studying.
Horses aren't ready to back until they are nearly 4. Racehorses have damaged bodies from being ridden as babies. I know this pony is only being backed by an adult, but i hope you have a more appropriate sized rider for him later.
I love seeing the horse whisperer at work. Blake is just so comfortable & patient with the horses. Does Blake rodeo? Keep up the great videos. Blessings, Love & Hugs from Vicki in Ft. Worth, Texas 🇺🇸🇨🇱👍❤️🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
He would like to get into that but he also is the starting quarterback starts on the basketball team and baseball team works for everybody and transverses so he doesn’t have time to make everything work
Hi to all your family, I had a sorrel gelding for 21 years, I absolutely loved that horse. His name was Lightfoot and I just wanted to say I would be absolutely delighted if you called one of your foals or a young yearling with the same name. It would keep his memory living on. GOD bless you all 💐 your videos cheer me up so much. Also I think the lady of the house is lovely. Yours faithfully 🐔🐓🐖🐑🐄🐑🐣🐤🌹🌹🙏🙏
👍👍👍 love this video. Deserved more thumbs up! I was really surprised how Valentine kept trying to not step in his poop. To me that looks like a horse that is going to be really good at placing his feet. In my rather limited horse experience I found that geldings weren't always as good at watching where they walked as mares. And oh that mare drinking from the hose! That cute baby didn't mind at all, just wanted at her milk bar! My last horse loved the hose water! Babe was a gorgeous frosty strawberry roan who also loved barrels. Guess we know what her previous rider was in to? Horse 🐎
Aloha The farm on Route 66, I really enjoy your family videos. Blake has and awesome talent and gift with horses. I myself have 2 horses one which is a wild Hawaiian horse and a quarter horse. I'm learning alot from the videos on how to train. So please keep them coming. I wish there was a way I could purchase a mare wild mustang from you guys broken in. Hardest part is figuring out shipping. Mahalo again and Aloha Brandon😁🤙
Oh man! Mahalo for the quick reply! Yes Hawaii has a huge cowboy history here. That's a dream of mine to ride on the beach haven't done it yet. You guys have a facebook page yes?
I would just say to move the saddle pad forward and to definitely put your heels down. Your right on the tip of your toys when you should have your heels down with the stirrup on the ball of your foot
Its so hilarious to me that people are giving them tips on how to ride. You think they don’t know! And yes, crazy, but saddle pads slip!!!
Thanks for understanding!!! It’s crazy how many unkind comments we have got about this!

Not ideal corral either. That shed could be a wreck if he blew up.
