    Fantastic video. What I really like is the pace. You move through the explanations without wasting the time of an experienced gamer. Yet you seem to highlight the most important points. The visuals are obviously first class, which means you avoid reading endless text that we can't see or absorb all at once. Your videos are a model of information and efficiency. Instant subscribe. Sorry I'm late to the party.

      @@StukaJoe You're gonna think I'm crazy, but I'm an old guy, so what the hell. There are a lot of gamers out there on UA-cam supporting the hobby, which is great. Some would benefit from Communications 101. Things like show, don't tell. Get to the most important points - maps and counters - as early as possible. Human memory is limited, we can't follow everything. Not everyone needs to make sophisticated videos like yours. I was a wannabe screenwriter for a few years. UA-cam is a video medium. Exposition is death. It's double death when nothing is happening on the screen. The rule was get in as late as possible, blow something up every 10 minutes. Sounds stupid, but I've seen psychology books recommending the technique for lecturers. Obviously I'm not talking about live shows or interviews. Or asking for endless editing and special effects. Just following a few simple rules and valuing the viewers time. For example, reading the text on the back of the box is something we can all do on our own. A quick summary, fine. But like you, they should keep in moving. I'm giving you an Oscar in cinematography and screenwriting in Best Short Wargaming Films.

      Thanks for the observations, Mike, especially the pace. I just realized how important pace is to keep viewer attention and the information flowing; it’s also given me some ideas. I appreciate your insight. Cheers!

      @@StukaJoe What I realized after I made my comment is a theory about why your pace is so good. One reason is that your presentation isn't about you. I never got the feeling you're talking to hear yourself talk. More importantly, you naturally seem to give the viewers enough, but no more. In other words, you don't spend time with things we should already know and don't overwhelm us with details we aren't ready to absorb. That is things we can't process on the fly and won't remember anyway. (We all need to consult the rules occasionally.) This sweet spot keeps things moving. It's also the sign of a good educator, though it does depend partly on the level of the audience.
      There's a great example in the video, where you turned the facing of the enemy plane. You showed the changed circumstances and I got it, even though I couldn't explain exactly how the mechanism worked. My take away was, that's cool. A great way to abstract a complicated phenomenon by the designer, which air boardgames always have to do. And for me, the elegance kicked up my interest in the game. Effective education and advertising.

    A parte de contarnos una bonita historia, ¿cuando decidimos algo nosotros? Me parece una sucesión de tiradas de dados muy al estilo de los "The Hunter / The Hunted" de GMT. Quizás, como ellos, se pueda hacer repetitivo en poco tiempo. ¿A ti que te ha parecido? ¿Qué juego de aviones de la 1ª GM me recomendarías? En principio me habría gustado jugar al Bloody April, 1917, pero lleva tiempo agotado. Las otras 2 opciones que he visto son el Ace of Valor, que me pareció muy sencillo y también pecaba de repetitivo, y el Eagles in the Sky que me pareció poco realista, con mecánicas tipo "top trumps". Aunque quizás pueda ser divertido.

    • @StukaJoe
      @StukaJoe  3 місяці тому +1

      Este es definitivamente más bonita historia que decisiones. La decisión más importante es cuando regresar a base. De los juegos de Gregory Smith, el Zeppelin Raider tiene la dinámica de tener uno mas decisiones importantes que hacer ya que tiene uno que administrar el gas y el lastre, para poder mantener altitud para efectuar la misión y sobrevivir. De los otros tácticos de aviación no puedo opinar ya que no los tengo. Saludos!

    Do the different enemy planes make a difference, or are all rolled on the same tables?

    • @StukaJoe
      @StukaJoe  Рік тому +1

      Each plane has a firepower rating, some better than others. Also, at the end of each round of combat, the player will roll two dice for initiative - one for his aircraft, one for the enemy aircraft. This roll is modified by current speed, agility, and other factors. Thus enemy planes are different and affect the game differently.

  • @soniatardio222
    @soniatardio222 Рік тому +1

    Thanks Stuka. So this game is about rolling the die lots of times and taking no decision at all. 🙄

    • @StukaJoe
      @StukaJoe  Рік тому +2

      For tastes, flavors were made. Compared to B-17 Queen of the Skies, this game has lots of decisions to make.

    • @colinmacmillan2944
      @colinmacmillan2944 Рік тому +1

      Being solitaire, yes there is a lot of dice rolling, but you can also choose to engage or not when you see your opponent. You also get to choose what skills for your pilot, and later, type of aircraft. None of this however helps when you lose your pilot to the ratatta-tat-tat of twin spandaus ... :-D
