It's scary. I'm former military and this would be a perfect hunter killer drone. Scale it up to the size of a crow. Give it small grenades, ping-pong sized "eggs". Imagine a programed version of this thing hoping or flying around on battlefield. A "case-less" .22 pistol inside the robot would make it perfect for hunting people. BTW, those "eggs" could be programmed to explode in a certain direction. That's a shape charge and can knock a small hole though tanks. I'm not that smart. If I've though of this then it's 100% under development.
When time machines are finally invented, scientists could use the RAVEN to transport tropical coconuts back to 10th Century Britain so that all the people could enjoy the convenience of imaginary equestrian mobility.
This will scale nicely for commercial air travel. I can just see the thin, lightweight legs launching a 9,000,000-pound jumbo jet without the need for a runway. Nice job!
I absolutely love the slow mo shots where it just jumps and drops on some net XD looks like it was trying to fly but cartoonishly dropped after realizing it's not moving forward XD
So it's like a modern metal gear. A plane with legs (metal gear ray, which has legs), instead of a plane with wheels (the Shagohod with wheels) It can jump like the Metal Gear Ray, it has a tail like the Ray. Since it can not hover I would not compare it to a drone, right?
Gads what an efficient drone. Take the basic concept, scale it up to something like a crow in size, and imagine its "egg" being a hand grenade. The bloody thing could fly to a combat area, hop around on the ground, and then deposit a bomb. This is a very scary robot and hunter killer.
This is very cool, props to the engineers! It would also be very cool if the same people who are planning to use this as spy and war drones would spend some money on helping preserve environments for real birds. At the current rate of bird loss on Earth, these drone-birds may be the only ones our grandkids will see.
I've done a lot of flying in STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) ultralights, and long dreamt of building an aircraft that could leap into the air just like this. Old age caught up before I could work on it.....
they could acieve the same functionality with a much simpler and robust design, just some wheels to drive around and some spring system to make it jump
1:15 Also, the propellers make a lot of noise. It would be great if it could fly as silently as an owl. They can be weaponized more effectively than FPV drones.
Silent as an owl flight might be impossible with standard tech since a small propeller has to move so much more than an owl's wings for a craft to stay airborne. But that would be a nice innovation.
@MikePatey if you truly want to fully leverage your skills in maths physics and engineering to captivate and inspire our kids, harnessing your personal passion for bush planes… here is your proof of concept. If you chose to open source, you would enable teams of the brightest and best that admire your grind and hustle to walk the path with you. I have no doubt that your plans for Draco2 are wild… but I mean… Father Time is undefeated and you can’t flick spanners forever. My sincere hope is you read this and deeply ponder. Big love from Australia!
In the 70/80s we could buy such "Birds" build from plastic and mechanic wings. They looked like doves and the movement of their wings were like bird. At the tail was a crank for twisting a Rubber band. Does anybody know what I am talking about?
well... jumping would create some nasty G stuff there if you want passengers. and im not sure that a bit bigger propeller would offer as good start as any instead of jumping.
Was expecting my personal home robot to be bigger-can it run a bath? 🤔 Or is this a scaled down version of my production flying car my 2000AD comic in the 1970s promised as Soviet robots landed on Venus?
cool but incredibly not efficient like told... brushless prop rc planes don't even need a runway.. they're already powerful enough to launch upright. Flight is one thing we cant duplicate from nature very efficiently
youre telling me that hop hop mechanism isnt just extra weight when we could just slam the throttle for .2 seconds. maybe more effeicent for a split second but not with that extra weight on a long run.
The government drone people are gonna love this
"I knew it"
CIA already had similar stuff. Check out the Insectothopter from the 1970s. Who knows what they have now.
@@Earth_Rim_Roameryeah and it was a flop remember
hahaha I thought about that too
They are revealing the early stages of an old and already improved technology.
Birds are just never going to beat the allegations at this rate
Yet more proof that pigeons aren't real.
You never see baby Pigeons..........
wait, are you still alive?
It's Afrotechmods!
@@mark261166 3 months ago, we picked up a baby pigeon. He still lives with us. He is constantly ill with something. We'll let him go in the summer.
pigeons are just rats in a wing suit.
Can't help thinking that someone is going to build a cat drone to catch these bird drones...
Literally a murder drone

A hawk drone
i never realised that ravens have a BLDC motor inside their beaks. Learn something new everyday!
Okay now I need to build one
I didnt expect to see you here. YES we need more DRehm FC !

Hola
New VTOL delivery platform?
@@NickMcCarthy-z9d very good for delivering worms & breadcrumbs
I love this. Even if it never develops into something for practical use this would be an excelent toy. I'm 50+ and I want one.

Make one looking like a predator would be a great scarecrow. Farmers would buy them.
The jump is hilarious :D
When time machines are finally invented, scientists could use the RAVEN to transport tropical coconuts back to 10th Century Britain so that all the people could enjoy the convenience of imaginary equestrian mobility.
With the way the human species is going, you could transport yourself four years into the future and there you'll be, completely alone.
Please someone tell what book they are referencing here 😂
Is it a Swallow? It's literally called RAVEN
This will scale nicely for commercial air travel. I can just see the thin, lightweight legs launching a 9,000,000-pound jumbo jet without the need for a runway. Nice job!
That's the most amazing VTOL technology I've ever seen! :D
B-TOL
It's not, but it's still amazing
@@Ducky69247 yeah we in the biz call that rhetoric technique "hyperbole". That's with a "Boh Lee" at the end and not a "bowl". Confusing, I know.

First cool thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Congratulations..?
The autotranslated German video title is "FliegenGehenDrohne v4" which makes no sense at all lmao
- "GoingFlyingDrone v4"
Birds are drones before GTA 6
I absolutely love the slow mo shots where it just jumps and drops on some net XD looks like it was trying to fly but cartoonishly dropped after realizing it's not moving forward XD
I wish at least one launch had been shown in real time and not slow motion…
Awesome ! What about landing ?
Since they don't show it in the video I'm guessing that is still something they haven't worked out yet.
Imagine you've just shot a flying pigeon.... The landing that results is how these drones will land. 😂🤣
I love the propeller they dont go chrping but the sound propeller does
So it's like a modern metal gear.

Now think about the plane you are inside just jumps to the air
But first it stomps away from the gate like a T-Rex, and all the passengers not buckled in get tossed around like popcorn. 😆
It would be amazing to see this on the moon and Mars
Maybe Mars, but there’s no atmosphere on the moon lol
This is very cool, props to the engineers! Coming to Switzerland for this !!
It's a very serious attempt, but .... A lovely birdie! Can't help chuckles.
Takeoff taxing would be a next challenge with a heavier body! Good luck !
와 이런식으로 영화에서나 보던 사람을 보조 해주는 로봇도 만들 수 있겠네.
스마트 기기의 다변화도 만들 수 있을듯. 재밌고 멋진 로봇이네요

Remarkable technology !

Neat robot! I'm still a fan of birds though, they provide the circle of life, and allow us to exist.
Well done! 👌🔥

Yay let's weaponize this! Hooray for the future
With this fixed wing design you can at least do a silent glide on approach to target
I’m just picturing a full-size passenger plane with giant bird legs hopping into the air and flying away 😂
Alright now add an ornithopter instead of a fixed wing
Why don't they let it outside? Are they afraid it will fly away?
They don’t want it to catch a ‘flu
I look forward to the first passenger carrying variants
It'll giggle your giblets and turn them into gravy.
Imagine being in the jungle with a broken leg and the medevac plane hops off with you like a pigeon.
I can't wait until commercial aircraft get legs! Imagine, a 747 with legs!
Now modify feet to have flippers and claws and ability to retrack wing and waterproof. Swim, dive, climb and crashlandings.
AWESOME!
Thanks for sharing.
Imagine your airplane instead of riding is walking towards takeoff location.
Does anyone else think it's kinda cute?
Very cool!
so how are you gonna land it?
Looking forward to my plane jumping off instead of using a runway lol. All jokes aside this is truly incredible!

Maybe the literal mention of the wings being fixed has something to do with that
