When time machines are finally invented, scientists could use the RAVEN to transport tropical coconuts back to 10th Century Britain so that all the people could enjoy the convenience of imaginary equestrian mobility.
@@StaringCompetition Monty Python's Holy Grail has a classic scene and later callbacks that involve knowing the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow (as opposed to one carrying a coconut). It's scary. I'm former military and this would be a perfect hunter killer drone. Scale it up to the size of a crow. Give it small grenades, ping-pong sized "eggs". Imagine a programed version of this thing hoping or flying around on battlefield. A "case-less" .22 pistol inside the robot would make it perfect for hunting people. BTW, those "eggs" could be programmed to explode in a certain direction. That's a shape charge and can knock a small hole though tanks. I'm not that smart. If I've though of this then it's 100% under development.
Awesome. VTOL technologies have been developped for years, if not decades. The whole transition process from slow to cruise flight takes a big slice on the battery capacity. So this could help combining fixed foils without the added costs and complexity and increase range of V-hop planes. Freaking awesome.
I absolutely love the slow mo shots where it just jumps and drops on some net XD looks like it was trying to fly but cartoonishly dropped after realizing it's not moving forward XD
So it's like a modern metal gear. A plane with legs (metal gear ray, which has legs), instead of a plane with wheels (the Shagohod with wheels) It can jump like the Metal Gear Ray, it has a tail like the Ray. Since it can not hover I would not compare it to a drone, right?
This is very cool, props to the engineers! It would also be very cool if the same people who are planning to use this as spy and war drones would spend some money on helping preserve environments for real birds. At the current rate of bird loss on Earth, these drone-birds may be the only ones our grandkids will see.
This will scale nicely for commercial air travel. I can just see the thin, lightweight legs launching a 9,000,000-pound jumbo jet without the need for a runway. Nice job!
I've done a lot of flying in STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) ultralights, and long dreamt of building an aircraft that could leap into the air just like this. Old age caught up before I could work on it.....
Not convinced. Brushless electric motors are insanely powerful - this contraption can easily take off without any legs. It only needs some room to spun up the prop and some initial pitch angle.
Only if it could perch on twig! Ok, takeoff, one of the most difficult, laborious phase cleared, safe landing is the next challenge! Walk better than penguins. Talking of penguins, I wish scientists could demonstrate a penguin-mimic robot UNDER water some day!
Flying drones, Robot dog, robot bird, robot insects, and humanoid robots …. Are we closer to the mega man world than we thought ? Battle network, robot master, and ai…
they could acieve the same functionality with a much simpler and robust design, just some wheels to drive around and some spring system to make it jump
In the 70/80s we could buy such "Birds" build from plastic and mechanic wings. They looked like doves and the movement of their wings were like bird. At the tail was a crank for twisting a Rubber band. Does anybody know what I am talking about?

Gads what an efficient drone. Take the basic concept, scale it up to something like a crow in size, and imagine its "egg" being a hand grenade. The bloody thing could fly to a combat area, hop around on the ground, and then deposit a bomb. This is a very scary robot and hunter killer.
The government drone people are gonna love this

Literally a murder drone

What a comment 😂🤣😅
they should build a hawk, too

wait, are you still alive?

New VTOL delivery platform?

The jump is hilarious :D

With the way the human species is going, you could transport yourself four years into the future and there you'll be, completely alone.
Please someone tell what book they are referencing here 😂
Is it a Swallow? It's literally called RAVEN

Imagine you've just shot a flying pigeon.... The landing that results is how these drones will land. 😂🤣
first video in a while to actually amaze me
This is amazing and this is the future i want to see.
These are going to be way cooler, when you can fit a human pilot inside
Yeah...they have to scale this up.
Now think about the plane you are inside just jumps to the air
But first it stomps away from the gate like a T-Rex, and all the passengers not buckled in get tossed around like popcorn. 😆

They don’t want it to catch a ‘flu
