i played with some girls the other night and only won one out of six games. i was feeling really down about it. after a day of rest i went back out, played with comparable and better players, won only two out of seven games, ha ha, but i walked away feeling better about myself because I SHOWED UP AND COMPETED and i tried to give myself pats on the back for the good stuff i did. great video!
I think the last part about using a positive supportive attitude especially when outmatched is the most important advice ! How much better my play goes when I feel buoyed up by my forgiving partner! Winning is nice but we’re here to play! And enjoy it!
At our drop-in, the ambassadors often ask me to play on the competitive courts rather than on the intermediate, so I am often the weakest link on the court. If and when my team loses, I always thank my partner for playing with me and bringing me along. I don't beat myself up and I am getting better, while learning a lot. Being grateful and humble go a long way to making even a losing game a winner for all.
Great job Nicole. You really do a great job on focusing on what's important to the vast majority of players. While I love the 5 rules the order seems a bit random. Not sure how they should go but maybe#4 should be #5?
We coaches do tend to put that at #5 which is why I did not want to put it there because it is such an underrated skill. I think we need to put more emphasis on it. Without it, everything else falls apart in a hurry. Sometimes I think maybe I should have put it at #1.
Good advice. I wish the video were in better, clearer light and that the camera were not so far away. Hard to see through the mottled light and distance.
From a former tennis player and now Pickleball player, this video is very insightful and helpful--I'm hooked on the game and look forward to watching your videos to improve!
I'm new to PB and currently in a ladder league. The players act like they're in the Olympics. 😅 I had *no* freakin clue that PB was like this. All my biases were *wrong* !!!
True, however many don't come from a tennis background. Also, as much as they seem like common sense to some, these things are just not obvious too many players.
Many struggle with that one. It can be practiced just like anything else. Catch yourself when you’re going negative and just flip the the script on it.
I find my forehand to be very reliable. You need a backswing on a forehand groundstroke. Mine is achieved mainly from a shoulder turn and I’m not reaching back. That said, I’m always looking to improve it and will definitely look at all aspects of it on an ongoing basis including my backswing. Thanks!
it looks good to me! you were a tennis player and i’m sure you are doing fine on the PB courts with your own style. i don’t bring my paddle back far enough and i need to learn to generate speed. i’ve been criticized for not keeping my ball low enough so i’m going to try your style!
Thanks. It’s all in the shoulder turn. I don’t reach back. The shoulder turn makes it look bigger than it is. It’s deceiving. So focus on a strong shoulder turn and DO NOT reach back.
I was going to make the same comment. I can see a tennis motion bringing the paddle way back and a long stroke forward. I have been coached not to do this.
Rename this game to Ping Pong Ball. Take out the pickle, sounds dumb makes no sense and quite embarrassing in a strange way. Basically, looks like a big version of Ping Pong.
I read that the name “pickle ball” originated because the inventor’s dog was named Pickle and would always try and steal the ball. The game was invented in California in the 1970’s of 80’s.

Great stuff! Love to hear stories like that. 👏
Thank you for your tips . Especially when your not playing well .
Breathing in as the ball come to you & breathe out when hitting
As a player & coach, this is by far my favorite video! It basically sums up the character of being a professional at any level :) thank you Nicole!!!
Thanks John! So happy to hear. This basically sums up why I made the video. Happy to hear it comes across.

Positivity is key and unfortunately I find that it's often underrated or totally ignored. Thanks for the comment!
My wife and I have been pickleball video junkies for years. This is right up there. One of the best. Thank you Nicole.
Thanks John! 😊
Props to you Nicole, I find your videos to be very insightful and your oration skills are top notch, clear & concise…
Keep up the good work…
Thanks so much Charles!
Great video. All great points. I too liked the part about being positive especially with yourself.
It’s so key and often overlooked.

Awesome! Love your attitude and approach. Keep it up!
The best instructor on You Tube. Thank you! Good stuff.

@@primetimepickleball I was thinking it was the most important so it should be #5. Everything builds upon it. So I guess #1 or #5?
Thanks so much … love your tips
My pleasure Lynde!
"Be positive with yourself and with your partner" - so important. I love Nicole.
Thank you! Yup, it goes a long way.
Some really great tips and mental notes to take! Thank you for sharing these and looking forward to more. :-)
Thanks Leo!
Thank you for the excellent advice.
My pleasure!
These are great tips and advice! Thanks so much!
Glad you like them!

Thanks and thanks for the feedback.
Liked the summary of 5 points at the end.
Glad you liked it Mike!
Fantastic video! Thank you!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.

Awesome! Glad you find the videos helpful.
Wait, is that paddle an Encore made specially for PrimeTime?
We did have a limited run of PrimeTime branded Engage Encore 6.0 paddles.
BREATHE!! That alone has improved my consistency.. ..Great coaching, Nicole!
Thanks Adam! That’s great to hear.
Great video.
Great tips.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them.
I really like how the male player had a short backswing on his forehand drives. Really gives you the edge to hit the ball in front of you.
Great video!!
Thank you!
Oof, 1:57, I felt that. If I had a dollar for every time that happened to me...
great advice
Thanks Kenji!
I play at this court! Monteclair
Nice! They're good courts. I like it over there. It's just not good for filming because there's lots of shadows so I don't film there anymore.

Lol! People like winning.

Your channel has helped me so much to improve. Thank you!!
what is the address to these courts!
Montclair Park, Oakalnd CA
A lot of these rules are pretty much common sense...especially if you are also a tennis player.
True, however many don't come from a tennis background. Also, as much as they seem like common sense to some, these things are just not obvious too many players.
Did Jordan split to a new channel?
Yes
I have a real problem with number 4. I get in my own head
Many struggle with that one. It can be practiced just like anything else. Catch yourself when you’re going negative and just flip the the script on it.
It was a lot of the same footage over and over... And over. It was good for me to hear the emphasis on positive self talk tho.
Thanks for the feedback.
You take the paddle too far back. Too much room for error.

I’m curious to see your forehands and what you think would be a good take back. If you have a video please point me to it.
The man in this woman’s game are nothing more then Gigeloses
lol ok.

yeah, it kinda is. It's a lot of fun when you play.
Just rename this game. What a dumb name for a sport game.
Wouldn’t have been my top choice probably but it is what it is at this point.
When you “invent/create” a game then you can name it….but until then. Football is another sport not named correctly. Soccer should be football.
I read that the name “pickle ball” originated because the inventor’s dog was named Pickle and would always try and steal the ball. The game was invented in California in the 1970’s of 80’s.
The source of much ridicule along with the pedestrian nature of much of the game.
The name has it's own share to the popularity
