Yes, for retired people like myself that I use my Tesla for just around town (short trips) and only charge the vehicle over night at home - is ideal for me. Most the time I just need to charge the EV up 1 or 2 times a week at home. Right now for others (2024) doing long trips and needing public charging stations may become a burden to have to wait longer (30-60 min) than a gas car which takes just minutes. Also hard to find an open charging stations sometime happens. Last thing, do you have provisions to be able to charge an EV at home location. Again, myself, I don't use public charging stations. So people do your homework and find out if EV vehicles fit your daily driving routines and can you charge them at home.

Elon is a bit off. 300 mirage range but there aren't enough charges to drive that 300 miles I'm driving 200 to 230 range and then have to fill up to make it to the next charge port. Batteries need to get to 450 to 550 OR tons more ports.

I agree, in order to optimize cost he's basically putting the burden on the consumer to figure out the charging speed vs. range. Cars that have a real 400-500 mile range wouldn't have this issue because charging to 80% of a 400-500 range battery would still provide a decent 320-400 miles of range. The Chevrolet Silverado EV has a range of 450 miles due to its 200KWH+ battery pack. But Tesla is the only manufacturer of EVs that makes money, everybody else is losing their shirt to the tune of tens-hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Charging and even going on long trips in a Tesla is Non-Issue. Realistically no one needs to power over more than 700-800 miles in a day. If so quit being a cheap bastard and fly. Otherwise, 700-800 is easy. I stop every 2.5hrs to piss and charge staying comfortable and in motion. Charge at home to 100% and go upwards of 280 or so miles then charge for 20 minutes and go another 200 miles, have lunch, charge to 100%, piss and get back on the road for another 280 or so miles. Thus far you've gone 760 miles and if you want to go 200 more than fine, do that putting you at 960 miles in a day without much more time than in a gas car. 40 minutes extra tops and at a cost of far less. If you need a hotel to keep going even further just get one with an EV port and suck up more free charging. Pretty simple.
I can tell you from experience. Charging time and range are a complete non issue for me. Tesla chargers are famous for their reliability. They just work. Free? Is gas free?

And just as he mentions I'm never charging to 320 total. Always 80 percent so my range to the next 2 charge port is lessened.
