Thanks for posting this helpful video. There are a couple of things left unsaid that I had to discover before installing the unit. First, this servo drive is intended to be used with Blum's drawer hardware - "SERVO-DRIVE can be used with all LEGRABOX, MOVENTO, TANDEM, and TANDEMBOX drawer lengths." There are absolutely *no* instructions for installing the servo drive hardware with a custom drawer length that you might have. I eventually discovered that the L-shape bottom adapter plate can be installed in either of two orientations (the foot that stick forward will either be on left or the right as shown in the video). It doesn't matter EXCEPT that, if foot is on the left, then you will see faint dash horizontal lines embossed in the plastic that are handy to use to align the distance from the front face of the cabinet to the measured depth of your custom drawer when fully closed. It turns out that the dashed line (IIRC it's labeled MOVENTO) is almost 1.25 inches from the rear edge of the adapter plate. Measure your drawer depth as shown in the video and then position the adapter plate's dashed line at the depth of your drawer in the cabinet. Use painter's tape to tack it down and remeasure before punching marks to ensure the alignment is accurate when you drill the screw holes. The two longer supplied screws are really small, so don't over-drill the pilot holes. In the video, it's suggested that the four grey, depth-stop clips get installed so the edge of the plastic holding the screws are flush with the cabinet face. But that depends. If you look closely at the clips you will see that they function as a depth limit stop for the drawer when you push it in to activate the servo. I suggest that you install the clips last. See where your drawer sits when closed and experiment with the exact distance it must stick out from the cabinet to activate the servo. Then remove the drawer and install the clips so their springs are fully depressed when you push in on the drawer to activate the servo. Good luck!
Hey thanks for sharing your experience and tips! Very helpful. I’ll pin your comment on top so others see it. 👍
Your 4 door spring mechanisms are meant to be closer to the cabinet. There is actually a small tab on the outside of the part that aligns it with the face of the cabinet. This holds the door around an 1/8” from the cabinet face instead of 1/4”.
Interesting I’ll have to check that out.
Thanks for the video. It really helped me out doing a frameless insulation so I’m not gonna use the side clips because he’s not gonna lie with my doors.
You’re welcome. I’m glad if it was helpful!
IKEA sells the same device, or at least it is extremely similar, and way cheaper. I have a few and they are amazing.
It’s called “Utrusta push opener electrical” and costs $139
EDIT: mounting hardware and springs are slightly different in the IKEA version.
Cool thanks I don’t have an IKEA anywhere close by but I’ll have to check them out sometime and see how they compare.
Smart Easy DIY on further study, it seems like there are small differences in the mounting hardware and the springs for the drawer. But for some situations that might not be a problem.
One of mine is installed in an IKEA cabinet, and the other two are installed in a competing brand (KVIK is a local Danish brand) that also uses Blum for their hinges and stuff.
The installation instructions are available on the IKEA site.
OK thanks for the info I appreciate it!
way cheaper here in Finland. 69€ 230V version
@@eskoasko can you give us a model number and a website maybe we can buy online
are your drawer slides slow close or does the Blum have the slow close feature?
The drawer slides have the soft close feature
Thank you so much for putting this up. It saved us lots of time.
I was about to click on Subscribed and found I had already done that. Thanks for your service.
You’re welcome I’m glad if it was helpful!
Thanks for the support now and previously. 😊👊
Be careful with the "22 1/4"" measurement for back edge of bottom bracket (around 2:45 on video) . In my case, with the same slider box frame depth (21"), the bottom plastic bracket had to be flush with the back of the cabinet. The total depth of my cabinet box was22 5/8" = 21" + 1 5/8" (exactly the depth of the servo unit). Start this process by measuring the total cabinet depth. Good luck.
Yes, good point. Cabinets can vary sometimes. Thanks
Can this work with any soft close extenders? Or only Blum? When I try it, it open half way only, like it missing some power(and this is set on strong)
Yes the actual soft close hardware shouldn’t matter. Mine wasn’t Blum either.. or maybe you could try some dry lube and see if that helps
When open, and you push it in, it's not clear what pulls it in for a slow close. Is that part of the existing slide mechanism? My cabinet came with a one foot long hydraulic spring mechanism which obviously I had to take out.
Darn.
Yes you’re correct it’s part of the existing slide mechanism. That hardware was already installed in the cabinet when we bought it. I can’t find a name on the hardware itself but our cabinet brand is Kemper. I don’t think they make any hardware though.
Thank for posting this video. The instructions that came with the servo drive where very hard to decipher and had not dimensions of where to install the parts. It would have taken me DAYS of work and lots of trial and error to do this without your help. Awesome video. Thanks
You’re welcome I’m glad it helped! That was my hope in making the video cuz it took me a while. Lol
Super helpful video - how well does it work when the garbage is full?
Thank you I’m glad If it was helpful! Yes It works great even when it’s all the way full.
Thanks for your video! We love our unit but now have the problem where the garbage drawer opens at random times without the door being touched or triggered. It seems to have a mind of it’s own... any thoughts about what might be wrong? Thanks!
You’re welcome. I’ve never experienced that. I’d recommend contacting the manufacturer to troubleshoot.
I think the flies can smell the trash because of the small gap. better to have a rubber line or something on the edges. but thanks for sharing this.
I haven’t had any issues with flies in my house.
Hello, how to unlock to remove for cleaning? Thank you
Do you mean the whole drawer assembly? Mine just had tabs to unlock the slide like a normal drawer. To remove the actual servo drive I think you’ll have to take some screws out.
Great video.
Any reason you wouldn’t be able to notch your panel and “countersink” the catch so the panel sits flush against the frame?
Thank you. I don’t see why that wouldn’t work as long as you leave it sticking out towards the face the same distance.
well you wouldn't want it flush anyways as all the doors and drawers have 1/8" bumpers.
Awesome video - thank you! May I ask - what brand are those bins?
Thanks. I’ll have to check and see if I can find any markings.
Hi...
Why not sliders push-to-open...?????
Sorry I don’t quite understand the question?
Is there a link to where you purchased the servo unit?
Hi Debbie. Yes there should be a link down in the video description below the video. Thanks
Is it compatible with any soft close trash pull out?
I believe so
I don't understand what that bottom plate is for.
That is part of the existing slide mechanism.
Thanks for this video! Question for you. You mentioned that I need to measure 22 1/4 inches. However, what if I'm installing the garbage can in a sideboard table with a depth of only 14 inches? Can this product work with one trash can and a much shorter slide?
I think it could work with the shorter slide but it may send it out faster if it’s lighter etc. you can probably adjust how close it is tho if it sends it too hard.
we LOVE ours. It is by far the best upgrade in our kitchen!
We love ours too! Only bad thing is you go visit a friend and you kick their trashcan to open it and it doesn’t open 😂
@@SmartEasyDIYer Kids do it all the time. We also knee our drawers :) We are going to install the servo drive in the larger lower drawers in the next kitchen. Its really awesome and useful.
Haha I do it all the time too! 😁😁 Yeah I’ve thought about doing it on the bigger drawers too. So handy.
Agree. We are redoing our kitchen currently and had the Blum push to open in our previous kitchen. It's going in this one, too. And I agree with the others who say it's hard to remember that not all kitchens have them. I'm always bumping other people's cabinets.
@suzipetroff625 yes I still love ours so much and I still bump other peoples doors in the kitchen trying to find it when they don’t have it 😂
Crazy price!
Yes it’s kind of pricey but it works so awesome! It’s very simple so I don’t see it ever really needing to be replaced
Thanks for making this video. What is the brand of the trash can frame and slides?
You’re welcome! So I know the cabinet frame is made by Kemper. There’s a sticker on the trashcan frame that says 21708 Hanso Grizz. I don’t know if that means anything but that’s all I can find.
@@SmartEasyDIYer Thanks, I'll look it up
Very cool!
Thanks it’s fun! 😊
will this work on inset cabinets rather than overlap like yours?
I think it would if you can line the reveal up so it fits nicely through the opening and doesn’t drag anywhere.
@@SmartEasyDIYer thanks! What about those little side tabs that are installed on the inside of the upper frame?
I’m not sure about that actually. You may have to add more wood inside to fasten to. Might be best to contact the manufacturer to be sure maybe? I’ve never thought of that scenario.
@@SmartEasyDIYer thanks for your prompt replies and helpful install video!
You’re welcome good luck with everything!
Where can I get the rails and what are their name. Thanks
Hi there I replied to your other comment. I will try to get it at a local home-improvement store so you can return it if it doesn’t work.
Great video! Can you tell me where you got your under sink mat?
Thank you! Yes here are some different ones. Youll have to measure and see what size fits under your sink. amzn.to/2SjZHRH
Where can i purchase the drawer slides.
Mine were already installed so I’m not sure which ones to get. You could check at a local home improvement store so you can return if it doesn’t work.
