  • In this episode, relationship expert Dr. Joe Beam answer questions from our listeners regarding limerence. Limerence is a state of intense infatuation and longing for another person.
One listener asks how long limerence typically lasts, and we explain that it can vary from three months to 48 months, with most cases lasting around two years. While it's possible for limerence to last longer, it's quite rare. We also discuss a case where a listener's husband had an emotional affair with a coworker, but it didn't turn sexual. The listener asks if her husband's friendship with the coworker could still be considered limerence, but we believe it's unlikely to have lasted for 12 years. Another listener asks how to start trusting her husband again after an emotional affair, and we recommend building calculated trust to rebuild the relationship.
Ultimately, understanding the stages of limerence can help individuals navigate complex emotional situations in relationships. Dive into this episode with us to learn more!

My wife and I hit a rough patch about 16 months ago. Around that time, she fell in limerence with the officer at our sons' school. They never were physical or even official. We reconciled about a year ago and I am happy to say that we are growing stronger with time. However, my wife still sees him almost daily, and the pull to know what could have been is really strong. Would you be able to comment about this sort of limerence that is never actually allowed to run its course--Does it last longer? Should she avoid all communication with him? Etc.

My husband has been in limerince since 2017. The individual has been out of state since 2020. He still stalks her and stares at her picture on FB frequently. Should I apply to the Guinness book of World Records...

My former husband was in limerence for a very long time as well...his affair partner lived in another country...and since they couldn't be together very often, it made it worse and they were able to say in
      fantasy land😢...

It can be Ego as well. A hurt ego lingers longer than any limerince. Maybe he looks at her FB hoping she's miserable. Or maybe not, but keep an open mind as it's never as black and white as these videos like to make us believe.

If it's forcefully broken, meaning my ex husband's new gf's family did not approve of the affair and rejected marriage proposal, what to do next for pulling him back. And I kind of contributed in breaking this. My ex has limerence bcz the girl os much younger and this relationship was developed when he was getting harsh comments from me and the girl used to agree to him whatever he used to do or say. I pushed him away and she took him. He was never a man who would have left me for someone else. We were trying to reconcile. His family also is very negative about me, i think he kind of wanted to escape from the pressure and then involved in this. I kind of forced the new relationship to end bcz I had no other choice

What would you suggest for someone stuck with these feelings for the same person for over a decade without a romantic relationship ever developing between them? Asking for a friend... 😳😅

Will the limerence period extend if they marry while still in limerence?

I am also researching the same thing , haven't got a Concrete answer but almost certain that Limerence fades within few years (max) and gets replaced by either Healthy love or Unhealthy expectations.

Why you always say the husband's doing something wrong Don't you think the wife can be doing what you're saying the husband's doing

My spouse of six years started cheating on me after he begged me to come back and treated me the best he ever treated me in the last six years. I fell in love with him again and the entire time he was w her. He lied and I found out from messages and hotel receipts. We still live together and he's still seeing her and talking to her and says he wants me out. What do I do?

I think our worker is in likerance with our worker.. he has left as he says he can’t trust me with his ph. I have looked a few times.
I was hoping he would come back but he now says never as he can’t trust me. I looked cause I knew there was something not right with the worker. Where do I go to from here? I know I shouldn’t of gone in his phone but it hasn’t been as much as he thinks and he’s turned it around on me when the issue is boundaries being crossed.
