    What fascinating conversation, loved it, thank you both. Quickie please, What does Fr Kappes think of the phrasing of the filioque "through the Son" as the Byzantine Scotist recommends?

    • @EasternChristian333
      @EasternChristian333 3 місяці тому +1

      "through the son" is orthodox in that it is theologically acceptable. "and the son" becomes heretical. The Holy Spirit does not eternally proceed from the Father and the Son because the Holy Spirit and Son both have their eternal procession from the Father alone. The Monarchy of the Father must be maintained or we have lost our understanding of the Triune God.

      Bro, i don’t even understand how the Holy Trinity works. I don’t even understand how God created everything out of nothing. I don’t even understand how i exist in the first place. And you want to lecture me how i should understand how God’s essence and energies work? You can call it what you want but you know darn well, and the Orthodox Church teaches it too, that you as a linear limited human being knows nothing about how God is God
      As i said, your original comment doesn’t apply. Yet you want to assume you know what i think.

    Where does St. Palamas prefer Proclean terminology/constructs over Dionysian? St. Palamas is explicitly anti-Proclean in key areas of his corpus (see e.g., chapters 34 and 35 of the 150 Chapters, where he grounds his metaphysics in the Divine Names, chapters 2.5 and 5.2). In Proclus, the Henads are eternally distinct within God. St. Palamas explicitly rejects this. Oddly enough, the doctrine of eternally distinct Henads is closer to Scotus than it is to Palamas.

    • @SudoDama
      @SudoDama 2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! He didnt actually explain the doctrine, when he was asked to, instead he mostly talked about western scholastic philosophy, also he overlooks the distinction between temporal willed energies (act of creation) and eternal natural energies (divine glory). This was frustrating.

    • @EasternChristian333
      @EasternChristian333 3 місяці тому +1

      Saint Gregory Palamas is absolutely a saint. He is liturgically venerated in all Byzantine Catholic Churches. It is ironic you, as a Roman Catholic, would get butthurt about that when the Roman Catholic Church has contemporary Eastern Orthodox saints canonized as Roman Catholic Saints (like Sergius of Radonzeh, himself quite anti-latin as well as the Coptic Orthodox martyrs and a handful of others). Trad romanism doesn't decide what the Catholic faith is.
      Thanks for playing though.
