If you wanted to here it played like the original, listen to the original. This is the "Zakk" version. The pinch harmonics are essentially his signature. You knew what you were getting into when you clicked the link.
Playing the opening notes out of key during the intro, then pinching the song to death seems a bit like a fuck you to tony. Zack should ask the jebus for forgiveness imho. fuck u zack, fuck u very much.
The problem here isn't the pinch harmonics. It's the bionic modern metal tone. I love his playing, but man this song requires more bass girth and less scooped crunch.
Rockets engines burning pinch harmonics so fast, off into the pinch harmonics nameless, through the universe the pinch harmonics whine, could it be the end of man and time? Back on earth the flame of pinch harmonics burns low, everywhere is pinch harmonics and zakk.
Wow, it's actually hard to tell if he was actually singing it or if they had the original recording playing, lol. He sounds almost exactly like young Ozzy here.
Tony Iommi is a classy player with more music in his missing finger ends than Zak has in his whole body. This is just an appalling noise - no class. Absolutely f..king abysmal - but I am sure Zak could be a decent guitarist but I have never hear him show it.
Not as hard as it seems especially on this type of song, Ozzy sang his lyrics with the riff as opposed to Dio who preferred to sing his lyrics across the riff, I love them both so this is not a comparison just two different vocal methods, I tend to sing with the riff when I write songs because my mouth and hand are executing the same rhythm, I find it very difficult to sing across a riff when I am playing.
it's like saying the word "fuck' too much. Strategically placed it has impact, but every other fucking word in a fucking sentence gets a little fucking redundant and fucking shows a very fucking limited fucking vocabulary.
Jake's still alive Brad's still alive Joe's still alive Gus' still alive Steve Vai's still alive Jerry Cantrell's still alive George Lynch is still alive
Zack Wylde should come up with about 100 songs that all pinch harmonics then someday Tony Iommi can cover Zacks work by replacing all of the PH's with bone crunching riffs. Oh wait that probably won't work.
Zakk is the guy that put pinch harmonics on the map in 1988! (No Rest for the Wicked) EVH popularized tapping. Zakk did the same with his distinctive pinch harmonics.
Totally agree - he's killed this classic riff with those pinched harmonics and a tone that sounds like a Flymo lawnmower through a Zoom 5050 going through my toaster (which is busted). Mind you, wouldn't say that to his face haha haha haha haha. Great guitarist :-)
+Captain Ron Well... the heaviest? Maybe. The best? Definitely no, although when he started he was really good, at some point I guess he lost it and became boring to listen after a couple minutes...
No one should ever dog this man!!! Most are just fucking jealous because they will never be as good or even close to this man's shredding talent!!! Especially those that are never will be's!!! Zakk is the Jimi Hendrix of heavy metal!!! Brother Zakk is my hero!!!
nobody is jealous people are saying they don’t like it because of the constant pitch harmonics it totally ruins the mood of the song to me it doesn’t hold a candle to the original song but Soundgarden did an amazing cover Zakk has an excellent voice though he sounds just like ozzy
Outstanding vocals. Killer tone and the main solo is right on. At times, his tremolo picking is overwhelming. I guess he's doing what people want to hear. Zakk is a beast on guitar, but I'll take the old-school, dark Iommi melancholy SG sound without all the pinching.
Just the MOST metal riff of all time!!!!! (You hate the Pinch's, skip to 3:55. Or just look up Zakk Sabbath, they're fucking awesome!) Damn, love Into the Void!!!!!
Zakk's an awesome guitar player and I love him, but I agree with aldersmoke. This is an anthem of stoner-metal, and stoner metal needs a beefier sound. And for fucks sake, I clicked on here for a Into the Void Cover, not a collection of pinchharmonics and a Into the Void cover stuffed in (the cover itself was great).
For fuck's sake everybody is talking about his pinch harmonics like that's all he does. From No Rest For The Wicked to Grimmest Hits this man hasn't delivered a bad album!
Zak beats off to pinch harmonics!!....he needs to calm down on over using them. He definitely knows his way around a fret board. But, ease off a little on the squealies. Way over done. Tony wouldn't approve.
I saw zakk as a kid with ozzy years ago and he was seriously awesome. the style has got a little tiresome in its 2 dimensional bombast. but I guess that's what makes metal great. dime bag was 10 times the player this guy has remained.
Who is better? Zakk or Slash? Sometimes i think Zakk is - sometimes i think Slash is!! Reply below with your vote! Help me decide. At this point im confused who is better. They are both so awesome its so hard to finally decide. Holler back to The Rock Dog and tell me what time it is. ZAKK TIME OR SLASH TIME!!!!
thing I love about Zakk. Is not only is he a damn fine guitarist. But also a great fan of other guitarists both young and old. It really shows when he 'jams'. Plus he's doing one of my all time favorite Sabbath tunes here.
Dull musicians make dull cover songs, smart musicians make creative and personal interpretations, that’s it. Amazingly incredible song by Sabbath, stunning interpretation by the great Zakk
Is every fuckin' guy here gonna say "pinch harmonics"? What the hell are pinch harmonics? Even if I dont know guitar lingo, I'm starting to notice that almost every Zakk solo has the same tempo and sound: 1000 notes per minute, regardless of the song.
Into the Void probably one of the hardest hitting tunes sabbath ever wrote.
on bass feel great to play! Thanks Geezer the Great for this!
I agree 100%. Hole in the Sky right there with it.
If you wanted to here it played like the original, listen to the original. This is the "Zakk" version. The pinch harmonics are essentially his signature. You knew what you were getting into when you clicked the link.
Exactly
An entire guitar technique shouldn't be a "signature". That's kind of why people dislike Kirk Hammett, except w a certain pedal
We all knew there was gunna be pinch gear we clicked to see how much
zakk's version is awesome! he even sings like ozzy on the original album version !
Playing the opening notes out of key during the intro, then pinching the song to death seems a bit like a fuck you to tony. Zack should ask the jebus for forgiveness imho. fuck u zack, fuck u very much.
Into the void is one of my favorite songs. But then every Black Sabbath song is my favorite song.
The problem here isn't the pinch harmonics. It's the bionic modern metal tone. I love his playing, but man this song requires more bass girth and less scooped crunch.
+aldersmoke1 It was recorded with a cell phone microphone -- I'm sure it sounds a hell of a lot better when you're actually there.
+aldersmoke1 I detest that guitar tone, reminds me of truly bad metal, Def Leppard-grade metal. Is 'bionic' what it's called?
+flashy5150 its not what he ment
Tuning and timing are off.
aldersmoke1 check out Soundgardens version!
Rockets engines burning pinch harmonics so fast, off into the pinch harmonics nameless, through the universe the pinch harmonics whine, could it be the end of man and time? Back on earth the flame of pinch harmonics burns low, everywhere is pinch harmonics and zakk.
Tooooo funny
Think Zakk over does the punch harmonics a little eh? I agree..also too much chorus.
* Pinch harmonics burning pinch harmonics...
I love pinch harmonics, and use them....but not as much as Zakk

+Bengals Fan exactly what i thought
BOSS ROSS when i first heard zakk wylde sing i genuinely thought it was ozzy so i see what you mean.
BOSS ROSS I don't know about that, but yeah he certainly does capture his voice well
Iommi makes it look so easy, Zakk makes it look so damn difficult... I'll take Iommi all day long...
Right dude? Iommy is pretty much a stone gargoyle on stage and sounds way better lol
What?
I would say it's harder to imitate Tony's version.

Agreed! Totally agreed !
One of my top 5 favorite Sabbath songs.
Was my #1 for many years.
What’s your #1 now?
I have no problem with using pitch harmonics. They're a great way to emphasize a note, but when you overuse emphasis, it turns into annoyance.
Agreed. A song like Into the Void doesn't need pinch harmonics at all. It's a dark, heavy riff. Adding little squeals ruins it completely
You're an annoyance.....
ShortFingeredShreder i agree at beginning it's cool when he's shredding.
Well i like it so bite me

Wow... This cover needs more pinch harmonics... There isn't enough of em on here
+S. Sanchez One is too many, he may as well do the whole thing in pinch harmonics
+Gluemonkey nah you just gotta know where to put em
DeathOfANation 666 He doesn't/

I think it’s great that he honors Black Sabbath great job
I had no idea he could belt out the vocals! Well done sir, my respect!

Hes like a 15 year old with his Line 6 Spider who just discovered how to do a pinch harmonic

Listen to 1919 eternal, zakk is an amazing composer and musician.
