- No copyright infringement intended. Another wonderful song I hadn't gotten to extending until yesterday....requested by Motown Steve! The Marvelettes, Wanda Rogers on lead, Gladys Horton and Katherine Anderson, with just a perfect amount of sweetening by the Andantes. Written by the late Van McCoy. Hope you like it!
I noticed there were 26 thumbs down, guess they don't know great music when they hear it, this is a true classic written by a great artist too
Motown barely promoted Marvelettes albums so the world had little way of knowing they were doing some of the most interesting, intriguing, intelligent and challenging music at Motown.
When this song came out I was 20 years old now I'm 74 great song
Beautiful song...beautifully sung by Wanda Rogers.
Always preferred Marvelettes to Supremes . Mesmerising voices
I think wanda rogers and the marvelettes were better
I don't. I Like The Marvelettes, The Supremes, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas equally. All of them have lead singers with very good distinctive voices. Sometimes, I get in the mood for one of these specific groups. Add The Velvelettes to this list. I liked Wanda Rogers' delivery to a song. May she rest in peace. 🕊️
Loved this tune when it dropped 50 years ago...still do...with every play.
When you haven’t heard a song in years and rediscover a song like this that encompasses an era in your life it is hard to let go. I just can’t get enough of this song!
Used to listen to this everyday back in 1978/79 lots of memories .
Can't get songs like this anymore. ❤
Huge band in music history, the first Motown act to have a US number one with "Hey Mr Postman"
This song did brilliantly in UK, and no wonder, superb !
This song brings back so many great memories of a time a long time ago , these were the greatest days of my youth
Beautiful song, the words just take you back to your first love. Great times growing up,listening to gems like this.
After all these years still goose bumps.probably the recollection of teenage relationships ....wouldnt it be great if you could go back to those times...
im sobbing , its brought it all back , oh, the memories of those times of my life in the 60s . when you had great music , and this fabulous . fantastic record , love you girls x
A group of beautiful ladies looking so classy in the heels and dresses/skirts. What a great generation of songs.
They sing it better than you can say it. I feel every word she says. Starts a journey in my mind.
Totally!!! The vocals, the arrangement fabulous
1967 and I’m at school watching a girl arrive for class who I was madly in love with ... just 16 ... oh boy, what memories ❤️
What happened to GREAT music like this.
So sweet Marvelettes .Genuine outstanding talented group. Their versions of " When You're Young and IN Love"and" Forever" are exquisite. Their natural soulful voices are rare to this day .They were first class. .
Better than the suprems
@@joeperez2687 I agree
Beautiful Song, so heart filling 🎉😂❤. Love the lyrics . Girls made Motown
When things can't get much worse in the UK, this wonderful song brings a glimmer of hope and love. x
Innocent musical perfection, glad I experienced these great tracks at the right age.DJ EXPAT
One of my all time favourites from 1967!
Ron van der Tuijn
The Marvelettes could do no wrong, nor could Van McCoy, and the Marvelettes took 3 years after the original release, but they still "OWN" this fresh song since 1967! Thank you for posting another wonderful classic!! [See also Ralph Carter definitive disco/dance version] Cheers, DAVEDJ
Thanks, DAVEDJ!!
tracks like this should come with a warning, wandas voice can be very addictive. theres magic when wanda sings, thats for sure.
You make us Motown fans want to listen to these hits over and over again. And this particular one simply makes me wish that each and every Motown hit were "treated" by you. So go ahead you lazy boy Moso!!! (you're great. Truly)
innocenteventi orbetello....thank you so very much!!!
This song brings back good memories
Wanda was really the best female singer at Motown. Very under-appreciated.
Agreed.
Yep...ms boss got all the attention
The Marvelettes, wow this brings back such great memories. Turn up for Inkster Michigan
OMG what a song remember when I played this song as a teenager and thought of my first school crush imagine that we are the couple in the song, such great memories .
this song is nice
Wanda Rogers, voice was soo soulful
Tom Anderson was she? Her voice was quite smokey sounding.
I remember hearing this song on my high school senior trip to a lake Michigan beach for a day. One of the last trips we would take as a class before we would all be splitting up and heading out into the world. This song just seemed to fit the occasion so well.
Although, I was very young when this was released, I remember the reactions of people to this classic. A golden time for people in love, inspired from this song.
This cover of the Van McCoy song was originally done by Ruby & The Romantics.
James Dean and William Weatherspoon produced The Marvelettes version....and I bet they arranged it too!!!! So dramatic and beautiful!!!!
This is my very favorite from them!!! Wanda Young's breathy and sexy vocals are nothing short of spectacular!!!
Absolutely Brilliant
One of the best Motown records ever released
What Amazing song
Fantastic group and beautiful people.
I just love this song it bring back so many memory
Simply beautiful at best. Wanda delivers on this song.
Incredible, and the photos are spectacular. Thank you so much for this.
Wow that was GREAT,loved the ending of the song............ beautiful pictures that I've never seen.Wanda's voice is SEXY !!!!!!
What great lyrics. I feel like they eere wrote about me at HJH. I just can't get enough of this music. Words make all performances great!
So beautiful it take your breath away. This one and "forever" are my favorites
This gives me Spring Fever. I met my husband in the Spring.
Finest Song of one of the most underrated female Motown groups - always standing in the shadows of the Supremes.
Great composer: Van Mc Coy
7-17-20: THE MARVELOUS MARVELETTES- ALWAYS ALWAYS IMITATED BUT NEVER EVER EQUALED BY THE SUPREMES NOR ANY OTHER FEMALE GROUP TO THIS DAY ⭐️❤️✅🌹
The song encompassed the breathless enthusiasm for the potential of love when I was young. Hearing your extended version with fresh, if not so young ears anymore, I have to say that I still hope there is a chance for me. Thank your for your sensitive and subtle work on this, my friend!
My, my....Mark.....thank you, my friend! You give me the kindest of compliments, and I appreciate them....
Ah,the good ol days
One of my favourites shameful how the marveletes were so undrated!
great group
Just that little bit added helps. I can feel like what it set up goes on even more this way. One of my few criticisms of our older music was that so many songs were so short. I think 3 minutes is about the shortest most songs should be and I personally prefer at least 3 1/2 if not 4. Thanks for this version moso.
Thank you, Fred!
Excellent on lead vocal, also the session studio musicians are outstanding, true professionals!
This was their only hit in the UK. It reached No.13 in 1967.
Promoted primarily by pirate radio stations.
Can I be honest, folks, they were the ultimate beautiful trio..after them...TLC some 35 or so years later.
Great song, great year, great memories ❤️
love those photos!!
I like the images to this. It's great seeing them in London - by the Royal Albert Hall and Trafalgar Square, and I love the one of them in the Citroën 2CV! I bet they got about. Gorgeous women too :-)
Not that I'd want to,but I could be locked up 23 out of 24 hours with the way you do this music and it wouldn't get old. I consider it good (understatement) therapy!
Simply Wonderful. 🎉More
I 👍 this long version !
My favorite Marvelettes song!!!!
Remember being young and in love,we stayed together for 50 years just wish you were still here my love.
This was and still is a wonderful girl group.
So many happy happy memories listening to this 😍😍😍
Brings me back to when l was young and in love for the First time what happy times one of the best songs ever
Beautiful music..
They are the best.
Nicely done - hadn't seen quite a few of those pictures, they're a real treat - thanks!
So perfect makes me tearful xxx and wot true lyrics INNOCENCE karen ( and nativity)
If you can only go back in time the memories just grabs you
Love this dong so much. Lovely memories.
Great group, voices, and subject to sing about! The first time I heard this was at 46th and Market Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! The crowds gathered there every weekday afternoon to dance and get famous! Then on Saturday it was off to New York City and the Saturday Night Beechnut Show. The train ride was fun too!
Who remembers this song rereleased in 1980s? 1990s? sung by Marveletts reaching UK charts?
...either erased from history or another universe...
I heard this in a record shop in West Philly. I knew the girl who worked there. She knew I loved The Marvelettes. She said Michael, I have a song I want you to hear. I saw a Tamla record being placed on the turntable, I said The Marvelettes? She said wait, listen. When I heard the drum roll, the concert piano, the violins, I thought, No it's not them. And when I heard Wanda sing "Spring in the Air" , "Filled with love" I screamed!! OMG Loved it the moment I heard it. Wonderful feeling came over me, this is such a magical song for me. brings back so many fond memories. She asked if I liked it, I said don't you see me crying? What's wrong with you, what do you think? The memories....
Michael DeSantis this is the best comment of all time thanks for sharing this precious memory ... fabulous ;)
Michael DeSantis OMG was this waaayyy back in 67??? I love this song and knew nothing about it until maybe 15-20yrs but i grew up on the Stacy Lattisaw version which came out around 1980.
Used to sing when you're young and blocked up at the golden torch in the early 70s , before northern soul was invented
Michael DeSantis
When music was great.
Fab remake of an old Dick and Deedee ballad from 62. This 1967 version is a great pre-disco take by the marvelous Marvelettes. Very danceable. Very Good lyrics. Thanks, all femme M. crew and Van McCoy. Vives les retro pop soul and disco freaks...
Ptown!! You've breathed new life into this marvelous Marvelettes Hit.
RIP Wanda Young who died on 15th December 2021.The best!
Van McCoy was our Mozart.
The only thing wrong with this record is, it isn't twice as long.
Just BEAUTIFUL! First time hearing it. Love it.
They were so pretty
as always... top quality. Many thanks
Wonderful harmony; truly magnificent voices as smooth as silk drawn through oil.
1967...the eras sweet spot. Good music..employment...Good humor man...cheap housing. This song was so uplifting...the Marvelettes gave the just right about of verve and Motown thump that impressed me so much. While it wasn't one of the chart toppers...it was just right on the money for so many young idealic teens. Thanks to Van McCoy for this little treasure...
Wanda with her Fine behind self!!!!! Are you Kiddin' Me!!!!
