Emmerich (Louis Calhern) wakes Angela (Marilyn Monroe) on the couch and convinces her to go to bed after a goodnight kiss.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Asphalt Jungle is a brilliantly conceived and executed anatomy of a crime -- or, as director John Huston and scripter Ben Maddow put it, "a left-handed form of human endeavor." Recently paroled master criminal Erwin "Doc" Riedenschneider (Sam Jaffe), with funding from crooked attorney Emmerich (Louis Calhern), gathers several crooks together in Cincinnati for a Big Caper. Among those involved are Dix (Sterling Hayden), an impoverished hood who sees the upcoming jewel heist as a means to finance his dream of owning a horse farm. Hunch-backed cafe owner (James Whitmore) is hired on to be the driver for the heist; professional safecracker Louis Ciavelli (Anthony Caruso) assembles the tools of his trade; and a bookie (Marc Lawrence) acts as Emmerich's go-between. The robbery is pulled off successfully, but an alert night watchman shoots Ciavelli. Corrupt cop (Barry Kelley), angry that his "patsy" (Lawrence) didn't let him in on the caper, beats the bookie into confessing and fingering the other criminals involved. From this point on, the meticulously planned crime falls apart with the inevitability of a Greek tragedy. Way down on the cast list is Marilyn Monroe in her star-making bit as Emmerich's sexy "niece"; whenever The Asphalt Jungle would be reissued, Monroe would figure prominently in the print ads as one of the stars. The Asphalt Jungle was based on a novel by the prolific W.R. Burnett, who also wrote Little Caesar and Saint Johnson (the fictionalized life story of Wyatt Earp).

I don't think JFK got it though. He was probably just an insensitive womanizer. Doesn't strike one as the sort of guy who was overly emotional about women. MM was too delicate for him.

History was made, although none suspected it would be, with Monroe's part in "Asphalt Jungle". It must have been prophetic of what was in store because Marilyn had a scene in tight-fitting pajamas. She did the scene perfectly and then had to do a retake because it was found that her zipper was open. Her part hadn't been considered big enough for screen credit, but the letters [after the film's release] kept pouring in demanding to know who the new blonde was. By the time MGM got cracking to sign her to a contract, they discovered, to their dismay, that Monroe had signed a contract with 20th Century Fox at $350 a week. This figure would eventually go up to $3,500 a week. Fox lost her once, they, obviously, were not about to make the same mistake twice.

Late Cynthia and I, started dreaming behind our own room doors, because, late Aleta, late Susan, and surviving Diane were giving three husbands, five children. Their room, became mine. Keeping the lower bunk of my three older sisters, now in marital beds, made the most sense.
That lower bunk in my 8th grade year at school, 1971, I was standing out of from a sound sleep interupted by earthquake. Recalling an exact word from fifty year old circumstances is quite possible: J E S U S !
