this is sooooo cool. I didn't have a tv growing up in the 80's, but I still knew Connie Chung. I wanted to be her in an "important people in history" school event, but I wasn't Asian, so I thought I couldn't. So I was Joan of Arc instead. I related to the feeling of wanting to be in male-dominated spaces and compete. I didn't even know anything about her, but I got a Joan of Arc feeling from seeing her speak briefly on the news.

I am old enough to remember Nancy Dickerson and some others but Connie stood out! What a delightful interview. I was there for Watergate and laughed when the venerated journalist spoke about about having to stake out for stories. One time Helen Thomas was eavesdropping on my bf (who worked at the White House} and me while we rode on the Metro and I felt like a star. Great memories.

Being Europian and living in Europe, I didn’t knew Connie Chung before. What an amazing and extraordinaire woman! And being my age in the middle of hers and Mayim, and my proffession when I began a very masculinized one I fully agree with them both about what’s “feminism”. Curiously, I’ve ended being the boss of a very masculinized big team with almost no women..but directed in a very feminine way.
Another fabulous episode to watch and re-watch! Thank you!!!

Thank you so much Mayim! Wonderful interview and excellent questions! So sad that ethical, accurate , unbiased journalism is long gone. There should be a journalism program that follows and honors the integrity our true icon journalists: Chung, Cronkite, Jennings, etc. i too can barely read or watch the news.

I loved this interview so much! As a woman of your age, Mayim, I too grew up watching Connie Chung. She definitely paved the way & set precedence for women in journalism. Thank you! Maybe you can get Maury next? Would love to hear from him too! They are great icons of our childhood.

@@ratedrachel3670 Excuse me? As a female, I grew up watching Connie Chung as an inspiration and it was wonderful to watch a powerful woman being so poised and confident and a very male dominated industry and contributed to the success I’ve had in my industry. Please take your creepy aggression elsewhere.

On a completely unrelated note.... Mayim how did you deal with writing so many papers in college 😂 I've written more in these 2 years than high-school! Great video and I deeply admire Connie! Wonderful questions. It saddens me to see how far gone unbiased journalism is. Connie is definitely a rare gem in the world of journalism alone, let alone the influence she had on so many people. They say Kris Jenner outworks the devil, well Connie's out worked the devil and Kris! ❤❤

Always been intrigued by the rise of yellow journalism. First learned the term in high school, a mere eon ago, where it was used in reference to Theodore Roosevelt pulling the press's attention to his family life. If i recall correctly, they were entranced by his daughter.
Sensationalism has been around for a long time and used as a political tactic to garner or destroy favor. From how Connie puts it, it seems like journalists took their power back for a time, but it's gone back to being a tool by the powerful to keep their power and direct the disempower's attention and energies toward matters of unimportance.

Yea, on the one hand, media improved. There's so much more diversity, even with Olympic coverage. On the other hand, I cringe each time "world news tonight" talks about what's going on with specific celebrities. That's what Entertainment Tonight is for, guys. #ShakesHeadInDisbelief 👿

She reminds me of my grandma. Except she doesn't knit while sharing her life experiences💖🧶 Last year I was the only woman at an institution for young men (around 18). The sexist comments only stopped when I started communicating in the same way. They found it cringe and I found it extremely funny😊

God Bless Connie Chung! I too miss the days when we would watch Walter Cronkite every evening and he would say, "And that's the way it is" and sign off and leave us to form our own opinions. Today we constantly have others' opinions shoved down our throats--it's not news anymore. Maybe someday we'll return to that? A girl can dream.
