I’ve been an aerospace machinist for over 10 years and you guys are TOP NOTCH! It’s easy to see y’all take pride in your work and enjoy it as well, the amount of attention to detail is awesome! Very happy to see small businesses stay true to their roots and not just pump mediocre workmanship out the door!

60's big block 409 W !?!!! Mind blown. If a mistake was made and a head was ruined...there ain't no replacement readily available! You two are the best at what you do, every video impresses me . Keep it up guys!

Just amazing to even find one of these old 409 engines.
That 409 would make one supper jet boat engine.
I used a Chevrolet 402 BB for my jet boat engine and what a beast it is plus my fishing clients get a Hugh thrill riding in the jet boat with an engine capable of 500 hp

You guys are living the dream!!! Dad is so special as a father, and son loves him with respect and awe without pandering or fawning. Props!!! Youhave it all! Whenn I was 16, went for a power ride in a 62 biscaine with 409, 4 speed, cam, and a dominator 3 barrel holley. It was so fast that time stopped! I remember the thrill of that speed still today. Later the driver was killed in that car street racing a 63 corvette. So powerful, fast, nearly unstoppable with drum brakes. I cried to have lost A legend

As a hobby machinist and mechanic, what I enjoy about your channel is both you and your Dad's attention to detail and accuracy to the tenths of a thousandth. The squeaky clean shop is another thing that's appreciated. When I watch a UA-cam channel for the first time and the mechanic or machinist does sloppy, half assed work, I'm out. If their shop is a total filthy, unorganized mess, I'm also out!
Thanks for posting these videos of machine work being done correctly.

I worked in a small engine rebuilding shop in the early 70's. I saw a lot of different engines go through the shop but never a "W" engine. I had a friend who had a 348 but he never could explain where the "W" came from. One look at the combustion chamber of the head I now get it. We had some very basic machines back then but still got some good results. What a dream it would have been to have all the modern equipment you have!

Reminds me of my first engine rebuild in about 1975. Took a 225 slant six out of a Dodge A108, and a local machine shop worked it over. They let me in the shop to see the work in progress. Can still smell the cutting oil.

I got to do all of the machine work on the first engine I ever built at a VW/Porsche specialist shop in Maryland when I was 18. That was 35 years ago and I can't believe that shop is still there under the same name which also should tell everyone something. A boss like I had is so rare but I see it in both you and your pops and why your name will be on that building in 35 years. My goodness time seems to accelerate the older I get.

I worked at an automotive machine shop back in the 1970’s. My jobs were boring and honing blocks and engine assembly. My tools were a boring bar and big electric hand drill with an inexpensive hone. I look back now and realize that the only real precision in that shop was Burt. Burt was our crankshaft guy and he was amazing. This was a large shop in Southern California and we thought we were the 💩. 😂 Love your videos! Say hi to the cleaning guy for me. 😎✌🏼

This just reminds me of how my dad almost had some one-of-a-kind early production Pontiac heads (two of a kind?) completely ruined by a bad machine shop that used improper valve seats with the head. Luckily they were just salvageable and a different machine shop was able to get them back to working condition. It's nice to see a machine shop doing things right.

well there ya go , 409 truck engine , even rarer than the 409 car engine ! I ran a 348 in a tow truck a 1951 that originally came
with a straight 6 . I retrofitted that 348 in that Chevy tow truck custom , the truck had a 525 Holmes wrecker on it from new
however , that straight 6 would have you crawling up hills !!
after that 348 install , I was pulling heavy loads & gaining on the hills like crazy !!!!
    348 & 409 's were really something else , and looked a lot " COOLER " under the hood then a 396 / 427 !!!!!
THOSE WERE THE DAYS !!!!! KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS , 2 THUMBS UP !!!! THE MACK GUY

First displacement number I learned as a kid ... thanks to The Beach Boys. Sadly, those scalloped heads were a major reliability issue and truly believe the simple addition of the valve guide caps will overcome the insufficient lube issus ... you guys are brilliant !!! From what I've read, the 409's are more prized than ever (get a "K11" Impala with a 409 and get ready to folk over about $350k !!!). 360hp for the day was amazing ... I live in the Riviera and have a C6 Z06 LS7 and of all the vehicles I've owned in my Life around the World (Aerospace Engineer), this is the most fun I've ever had with my cloths on ... LOL Frightening speed/quickness and "Stock" ... 333 kph on the Autobahn and 0-100 kph in a little over 3 seconds. This Texan has never been beaten on the street by any of the equivalent makes ... none.
Anyway, thanks for the Vid ... took me back down memory lane
