    I've been running AirTabs on my RV for a couple of years now. In this video I share why they work and what my findings are with them after tens of thousands of miles of driving.

    A correction here, the reason you get better fuel economy is the AirTabs ELIMINATES DRAG at the rear of the vehicle, NOT because the vehicle is more stable, as he states at 5:45 of the video.

    I agree with stability improvement. Even Ford Escapes could push me around when passing by me. In fact, the previous owner sold the rv because it was so scary to drive and his wife refused to even ride in it. They had spent thousands of dollars on every conceivable repair and upgrade available (Workhorse P32 chassis.) All new front end parts, springs, bellcranks, dampener, 4 Konis, front air bags, rear panhard rod, rear Sumo springs, etc. I installed a set of these and now I can drive one-handed, without white knuckles. Trucks passing don't bother me anymore. I can feel their buffeting when they're a couple hundred feet ahead of me, in my lane, but they no longer push me around. I doubt there will be any huge MPG improvements and since I'm not driving a hundred thousand miles/year for my income that's not a big concern for me.

      I've got a 27 ft p32 brick..all the upgrades you mentioned....do they really work when a semi pushes then pulls going by?? Please tell me where and spacing on your install...thank you in advance ❤

    Thanks Ted, great overview. Are those held on with something like a 3M VHB Tape type adhesive?
    Any concerns that they might come off in transit?

      Thanks Michael! I don’t believe AirTabs uses VHB, but it is held on with a similar peel-and-stick setup. In 10k miles I haven’t had any issues with them coming off or loose - just clean the surface before application.

    What effect, if any, does the change in air flow at the rear of your bus affect the rear radiator's cooling ability?

    • @TedsGarage
      @TedsGarage  Рік тому +2

      Excellent question Rodger, I should've addressed that in the video. I had considered whether I thought these would help or hurt cooling, especially given a number of the changes I'd made. My conclusion was that I thought it ought to create something of a vacuum behind the radiator and that it should in theory help, or not hurt.
      End result is that the differences in cooling weren't enough for me to notice much, maybe slightly improved. The real noticeable difference was in handling.

    What about the boundary layer? Those aren't big enough to do anything

    How many AirTabs did you use on your XC chassis?

    • @TedsGarage
      @TedsGarage  Рік тому

      Geo, I bought the standard kit from them which comes with 80 tabs. I probably used around 65-70 of them. However because I had extra, I put some in front of the rooftop AC units. I don't think those helped any, the real improvement was for the ones on the side and the roof towards the rear of the bus that reduced/eliminated the sway.

    But do they increase the critical angle of attack? :D

    If bus is more stable.. it could possibly help tire wear also??

    • @TedsGarage
      @TedsGarage  8 місяців тому

      Technically it might. However if you're having tire wear issues on your RV then you should be looking at other things. RV tires almost never wear out before they age out.

    Those are vortex generators. They were designed for military jets and have been used in many forms of Motorsports. These force moving air to revolve around the mass, as air flows better over a curve better than a flat surface.
    You’re not going fast enough to get the results your looking for. Sorry.

      You're right about them being vortex generators. You're wrong about not getting the results I'm after. Sorry.

    They have been around for a long time. They have been tested by lots of people. They don’t work.

      You had better tell all of the F1 race car designers, as their cars are covered in VGs.
