This was a beautiful old farmhouse in its day. It is quite possible that the children could not afford the inheritance taxes on the property. This happens quite a lot in France, as the taxes are very high. Unless the business is still profitable the cost of repair on top of taxes is just too much for most of the children to carry.🖤🇨🇦
Kat Fain I agree, far better to have these properties preserved and restored than simply allowing so much history to gradually crumble away to nothing because the inheritors could not afford the tax gouge on their family lands and home. In France, when parents die, any inheritance is divided equally between the children, that's the law. Unfortunately, if for whatever reason the siblings cannot decide on what happens to the property, say one wants to sell, one wants to keep, another wants something else and so on. Then there's stalemate and nothing happens. Sadly, perhaps this is what happened here.

As I downsized to a house about half the size is of the one I had lived in for 40-some years, got rid of a lot of stuff. My daughter and I are both only children. As we would go thru stuff, I’d ask her if it was something she’d want when I died. Sounds a little rough but worked well. She’ll still have a pile to go through. Hi Lesley Bros of Decay, Once again you show your whole compassion, when you were exploring this mansion of a huge French family together with Jeffrey.. - The piano in the living room was my favourite item you were showing. - I was additionally so highly impressed how gently you were approaching the life and the history of this family, - with such a great sensitivity, which is always so characteristic for your videos. - I think, when you are trying to capture the memories of the former inhabitants, you are really giving them something like a second life. - I loved listening to your deep and thoughtful reflections, what would happen after you are passing away. - Wonderful! Greetings also to your brother Jordy. - I hope you both are healthy and well. - Stay safe, peace, blessings and kindest regards. I just found out, that you recently hit the 150000 subscribers number, and now you even got 1000 more. - WOW! Many congrats for this overwhelming success!! - That is really amazing, and you deserve more and more subscribers!! - Much love from Switzerland!
I love you sensitive spirit of awe and respect for the deceased owners of these properties. You should have a show on HGTV or History channel. Again your attitude is amazing for such a young man. God Bless!
Under french law inheritance taxes are due when the children inherit. If the house and property were too expensive the children would not have been able to pay for the taxes. Sometimes, they just walk away.
Bros Of Decay That’s a shame ,and then who does the property belong to if the children can’t pay the taxes? The government? Why can the family be allowed to get the furnishings etc ??I cannot understand these laws ,to let these beautiful homes just rot away is insane
If none of your descendants want your house and other belongings, you can make arrangements to have an estate auction and the house sold. The proceeds can be divided amongst your descendants. Of course, you must set all of this up, with the cooperation of your family before your death.
It is a beautiful farm ! Loved all the furniture, peeling wall paper and the tiled floors. The 3D wall paper is called "Flocked". As I am officially elderly (lol), I do know that if a wife and husband die without a last will and testament, the property can be tired up in court for years. I hate to think that of the 6 kids, no one wanted it. All those bottles in the garage almost made me drool! I saw a patio that had 2 walls made of that type bottle cemented together. I want one of those! Thank you for the tour. I really enjoyed it.
You have such a great heart. "Giving people another chance of life to be remembered" That is so nice. Could almost see the family holding a dance with fun playing the piano and the table moved out of the way * The room with the Bar" Think they did have a great time, but they know they had much work keeping it going and as many farms now find the children want a modern life and leave. It is sad, as there as a day when at least one child would stay behind with the parents and their own family, and make sure the parents have a good ending in life, carrying on with the farm for the parents and like the idea they receive the farm in the end I agree it is very sad. If only people would '''talk it over with the parents and figure out what can be done with the home when that day comes' (Not an easy conversation and must be done sitting down and at the right moment and trying to just figure It all out and how they would like to see it all go, and then try to find a compromise at least?. Instead of just ignoring the most important conversations, of what do we do for dad and mom, and how to handle what is left behind when that day comes. Going over it with the parents way beforehand. Maybe one of them would be willing to own the home free and clear and jus continue on and work, if not can they own it to sell it etc? Making sure the home is in good hands and someone will be living in it and keeping it up. Allowing the parents to maybe understand how it will jsut fall down and be gone if they are not able to sell it or go through Real Estate people, and if not it will be left to be ruined, and they really do not want that. Or one of them own it, and live in it, and take it over. One or the other would need to happen. Someone else must own the home. (Hard but necessary conversation that is needed. )
I'm sorry Lesley but I had to laugh when you opened the fridge and almost barfed from the smell! On the other hand, thank you for breathing new life into the people that lived, laughed and loved in this house! You are adorable

It's a shame this beautiful place. Is sitting and deteriorating. Their parents worked hard all their life. To support all the kids. And none of them wants. To be involved in restoring. The house and wine cellars. All they cared about is money and nothing else. Great find thanks for sharing. Both of you have a wonderful day.
When my Mom past my sister took her personal belongings. When my sister past my other sister to their belongings. That's how it is in my family. We keep things in our family. We are old school. I don't understand this day and age. Nothing matters.
As a musician I always wonder what were the last things that were played on the pianos that you encounter in these explorations. Could you give us a look at that? Thank you lads for your respect for these old properties.
Thank you for a wonderful tasteful opening. The piano is an Upright one a Grand piano is like the shape of a harp laying on 3 legs. Usually the best way to here a grand pianos song is for the big top to be lifted. Beautiful narration, the circular carpet looked very thick and similar to a Chinese style. Be safe....always. Such a beautiful home. Only needs a little bit of love. ❤ Good to see Jeffrey in your video. Keep safe. Looking forward to the next adventure.
I love you sensitive spirit of awe and respect for the deceased owners of these properties. You should have a show on HGTV or History channel. Again your attitude is amazing for such a young man. God Bless!
Interesting house beautiful looking. and interesting items. great tour 👍🇮🇪😃
This house is surely awesome back in the day. Thanks for sharing and always take care exploring.
Glad you enjoyed it, it was a lovely place to explore :) x
What a fantastic time capsule! You guys always have fantastic content. Thanks for the tour...shared and liked ☺️
Lovely to hear :) Best to you!
So nice that you take time to do research on the homes. It helps capture the essence of its inhabitants
Under french law inheritance taxes are due when the children inherit. If the house and property were too expensive the children would not have been able to pay for the taxes. Sometimes, they just walk away.
I agree it is the same way over here in Belgium!
sweetlorelei The French shld petition to change inheritance laws- it's just a govt property grab. Too many Socialists/ Globalists in FR.
@@ladylibertywdc8324 totally agree. The children are probably heartbroken
Bros Of Decay That’s a shame ,and then who does the property belong to if the children can’t pay the taxes? The government? Why can the family be allowed to get the furnishings etc ??I cannot understand these laws ,to let these beautiful homes just rot away is insane
That was once an incredible home, I find it so sad when family members leave belongings behind😞great find though!👍🏻
Wauw! They had really good taste here. Such a cool home bar! Really nice wallpaper and master bedroom.
Was a lovely home Marcel ☺️ would love to live there;
I love this place the floor beams really nice stay safe love from Wales UK
I absolutely love your videos and commentary . Old France is amazing. Thanks for sharing your beautiful adventures. Kiss Kiss.
Such a beautiful house! It's really sad to see that nobody cared about it! How is that even possible :C
Thank you for all your hard work. Could listen to you all day x
It is sad, as there as a day when at least one child would stay behind with the parents and their own family, and make sure the parents have a good ending in life, carrying on with the farm for the parents and like the idea they receive the farm in the end
I agree it is very sad.
(Hard but necessary conversation that is needed. )
This is a lovely house and you've done a great job of showing us it,well done boys👌👍
I'm from Poland and I'm very impress this house. A lot of history is there.
Another very nicely done video. Lesley, you have the perfect voice for narration!
that beautiful house!! . Watching your video was like a journey through. Greetings from Uruguay. ❤️🤯
I'm sorry Lesley but I had to laugh when you opened the fridge and almost barfed from the smell! On the other hand, thank you for breathing new life into the people that lived, laughed and loved in this house! You are adorable
Glad you enjoyed it haha the fridge was horrible

Great to see you Lesley. Love this place! The curtain of cobwebs in the attic is insane! Thanks!
You always do a wonderful job with the camera & narration. Many of us notice this over & over. Thank you
Beautiful and tranquil, love your filming and description of this gorgeous home still full of memories
Thankyou Lesley
Great explore..
I love how you explain everthing...
So Sad that the children let it go..
Stay safe love you 💋
Wow what a great place I bet that was beautiful place to live , thanks Bros of Decay 💕from UK 👍
Great video!! I sometimes have the same thoughts you do about when I'm gone, it's reasonable you think that because you go to abandoned places. I think of it while I watch your videos. I read that it is of huge respect to those beloved left behind, you clean your house and leave less possible useless staff. XX
Guys you’re awesome!
Forever Bros of Decay. 😭♥
Thank you so much Jose ☺️👍
Great decay. Thanks for taking extra time in the tour.
Really enjoy your video. Love the way you talk to us & detail everything. Feel like I am there with you. Very beautiful home. Nice to see it untouched.
I love watching , you move the camera so well and show all the details and explain everything. Keep it up and thank you for showing us such nice places
Love the layout of this house such a shame how nice houses go to wreck and ruin but no one knows why it became like this .Thanks for sharing.Am getting fed up because of this virus and being controlled where we can go and what we can do i cannot go any explores.fuming because i had a list of places and even re - visits
I understand your frustration...
Such a beautiful video! Thank you for posting! But where is your brother?
Beautiful place great video 😀👍Stay safe healthy family and friends
I will do so for you in our next adventure :)
wowwwwwwww beautiful country there and the farm was gorgeous the house was amazing a lost in time treasure thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Kim :)
Oh the wallpaper you showed up close looked as if it was “flock”
Thank you for the helpfull information and the nice words ☺️
Wow! Another great video - I love traveling around with you guys. Even though I'm in Philadelphia I feel like I'm right there with you. You really know how to capture the spirit of the place.
Keep them coming!

💜 Awesome job ! and you sure looked nice at the beginning of the video sitting in the grass . Hello from Virginia in USA . Stay safe and healthy ! 💜
Another great explore! You all coming up on 150K subscribers and you surely deserve it. GREAT job. I truly enjoy your videos.
I believe that the dishwasher was used as storage. Wallpaper and tile staircase, antique are iawesome. Really cool place. Take that keg of wine. It's going to waste...omg.
Not to judge but move from your folks home. You can still visit and take care of them. Thanks 🐟
Your camera shows detail well. As well, I like the pace you take going through rooms.
A casa nos dá a impressão que era muito aconchegante quando tinha vida familiar. Ainda é possível sentir o estilo de vida deles.
Música linda de fundo. Muito calma!
BROS OF DECAY É MUITO BOM . 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
BRASIL- PARANÁ - CURITIBA 4 de outubro de 2020💚💛

This house must have been beautiful back in the day some really nice furniture just left to rot which is a real shame thanks for a great explore x
Glad you enjoyed it Karen :)
I enjoyed this so much. I like the way you presented this show... 😊
