very cool, glad you got such a new engine! got 2 of those in my 85 CHB around 2200 hrs, looking forward to cruising the San Juan Islands and Inside Passage!
Thanks for a great video. I have a 85 CHB, Senator 35 with the Perkins 6.3544M, with 5000hrs. A little different than yours - mine has the integrated aux drive that powers the raw water pump. I was wondering if you have any kind of air filter on your air intake? All I have is a plastic basket to keep out large debris.
Mine has an aux drive the runs the raw water as well on the front port side right new the high pressure pump. My motor also had a ridiculous plastics intake basket. I just recently ditched it in favor of a very large conical filter. I have the old ceiling tile insulation under the cabin sole/deck and it is constantly crumbling little bits here and there and I figured some real filtration could only be a positive.
@@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 Thanks for the reply. What I was trying to describe is that my aux drive is part of my engine, not attached to the front port side like I saw in your video. My insulation is flaking away as well - where did you get the air filter?
@@12FlyVA Actually I just looked at my Amazon orders and didnt see a filter. I am not sure where I got it from. Its nothing special, just a conical filter with some decent surface area and I also bought a silicone coupler. And as far as your raw water set up I am not surprised its different. I have seen several varying installations and conversions. As long as it works!
We have bought an older Trawler too. We have the same 6354T Perkins and it’s got over 6,900 hrs! Starts right up and runs great. Don’t know the history I’m betting it hasn’t been rebuilt.
Yes. It was Yacht Power Products in St Pete Florida 727-822-2628. They have good reviews and a solid reputation. I dont think they have a website though.

Lucky you!. I am in Florida, which is great, but the PNW is amazing cruising grounds. One day I will get up there.

Thanks for sharing, time to do the service on my twin Perkins. This engine comes with a hand operated sump pump… did you try the one on yours?
I did try it. It was a bit difficult to operate. It does work though. The vacuum pump was real easy since you don't have to pay attention.
@@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 I was considering removing the hand pump and using that fitting to install a Reverso system.
@@leftcoastcruising7080 sounds like a good idea to me.
Do you have the oil filter types used for this Perkins? Thanks!
What a sweet deal you got!!!
Thanks Captain Steve. We love the little boat.

@@stevemuskett9553 wow..thats amazing. That boat has been places. I hope to get even close to that.
Do you know who rebuilt the motor? I have twin 6.4544 and they are getting up there in hours
