Disclaimer - Everything you see and I say is all my own personal opinion and I work alone and not with any military organisations.
PCoy in 1981 (when I did mine) took place during week 12 of what was then a 22 week recruit training course.
The ten Miler was the second event (milling was the first) on the first day.
Boots (DMS with puttees), denims, PT vest and combat jacket was the dress.
(we weren't allowed to wear smocks until we got through week 12 successfully)
Bergan weighed in at 35 pounds with 12 pounds in our webbing plus an SLR rifle carried as a personal weapon.
Ten miles in 1 hour 45 minutes for a pass ... BUT ...
That was nothing, because on my second day in Battalion I did a ten miler with my new platoon through the Scottish highlands.
Bergans weighed in at 40 pounds, belt order around 12 to 15 pounds and I had a Charly-G (Karl Gustav anti-tank weapon system) strapped to the top of my Bergan and my personal weapon was a Gimpy (GPMG Machine Gun).
We did the TAB in 1hr 40mins and those hills were bastards.
So, for all those planning to become Paratroopers and seeking information through these sort of videos and comments, please recognise that P Coy is merely a bench mark. A very BASIC level for absolute minimum qualification.
Correct, ten milers are the minimum standard and once you get to your battalion you'll be doing them regularly.
@SuperVHSchannel mega :)
Stop trying to imply you had it harder than what the joes get it now, you didnt!
A couple of guys who are 54 years of age are training (and go to our local Gym here in Sydney ) up to go back into the Australian Army and are doing 16km fast Marches like this with 30 kilo's in their backpacks. They are averaging 1hr 40 for each run and are aiming to get to 1hr30mins.That is a great effort.
That's wicked that
The 10 Miler should be in undulating land over cross country - words like "Long valley" or "Hungry Hill" have meaning, especially when wearing boots , webbing, Bergen (30lbs) and rifle.
i remember the 10 miler well from my beat up course at the 'Shot and then up on P Coy at Catterick and a little bit different with a rifle. I know that in our unit we had it sub 1h40 as a friday knock off 'jog'. Not the hardest of tests on test week, stretcher and log absolute beasts. Although with everything going on test week and balls out all events are a blur from that period. I was having ice baths after tea and in bed for 830 absolutely goosed. completed all arms p coy few months before turning 30 catterick spring 96. the CSM on P coy told me i was too old anytime he spoke to me, trying to psych me out. he was a little devil on my shoulder all course, upmost respect for him though 82 falklands lot. there was a lad on from 7 RHA he went backwards a mile or two in on this event, he was fitter than me and had done about 4 courses on the trot but he knew what was coming and his head had gone for this event. fitness is one thing its the mindset that gets you through a lot of the events and also through most of life. it ever gets bad out here go back to these days and lifes not quite so hard. Good luck to anyone having a go positive mindset coupled with fitness is the key. Still remember and live by the pneumonic one of the DS told us on our beat up course......'WADE'- will to win, aggression, determination and effort. Have revisited this on a regular basis and taught it my kids. They should use this pneumonic in the education system it would cure a lot of our snowflake society's excuse laden problems
Pathfinders have a 40 miler, paras on some next level shit
Still got it mate.
🙏💪
Passed this in 1996 .
Did the Paras 10 in 2011 and did it in 1 hour 40 ...(as a 40 year old )
My knees are fxxked now.
Fair play looks tough that. Any tips for improving running distance? My average 2k time is 9 and a half mins which I am improving on weekly, my best was a couple days ago 8 and a half mins. But I really just can’t run further than 2k so was wondering if you’d any tips. Cheers for the great content you are producing 🇬🇧
Callum Sangster I’ve spoken to him on insta he has great advice! I’m currently in the process with the army as a combat medic the best way I found to improve my mileage was using the app couch to 5k it’s so good to help you add distance then after that u can use couch to 10k
Covers Daily cool thanks for that. I’ve got the assessment centre coming up (not sure when because it’s been delayed) so trying to use this lockdown to get as fit as possible. Good luck with combat medic!
Callum Sangster yeah I was supposed to go to the assessment center in April put corona delayed me :( but after speaking to my army careers officer I should be going june time! The assessment center has been cut down to 1 day now due to social distancing so we won’t be spending the night there instead we just go for a full day
Ride a bike, train on a bike... CD former PTI
Clearly never done the 5 miles of death
How hard is that then? Because I've looked for videos of it but can't ever find any
@@seanwood8883 You won't find nothing. Anyone that attempts it dies.
Really like your videos. What is the oldest person you have known to pass P Coy?
I am 33 years old, I was in the regulars (infantry) for 9 years. 2 years out then been in the reserves (infantry) for 5 years. I am thinking of transferring to 4 Para but wondering if I am too old? Do you have a good programme for someone like myself to build myself up?
Thank you mate, how have you found being out and in the reserves? I had a 39 year old Sgt Major on my P Coy and he passed
@@CombatReadyHQ being out is good because of the quality family time I am now having. Being in the Reserves is great as well. I do which days and weekends I want, so that is work life balance at its best. I still love the green stuff. Thinking of giving 4 Para a go but I'm in need of a good programme. Thats insane 😁 boosted my confidence now about giving it a go 💪
How do you deal with shin splints. Can you make a video about it please. Thank you.
Run them off.
Depends on how bad they are, I would always recommend seeing a specialist but rest from high impact exercises, Ice, loads of stretching, foam rolling and correct footwear sorted mine out
Is the weight in Lbs or Kg ?
In pounds
Just done my first 10 miler... 12kg roughly and 2:01:26, only 17 years old so really proud, thank you :)🇬🇧🇬🇧
Well done mate great first effort 💪
Craig Hollman thank you :) going to keep pushing myself over a slow course till i get to Pcoy level for in a few years time.
P Company looks real man's stuff. Definitely for tough guy's who just keep going through the pain, and no matter how much pain they're feeling, which is probably what makes a para anyway. All those tests they do are something else, and no wonder the paras are the elite they are when thats the training they have to do to earn their famous beret
Sir again please react battle of marawi mirror army special forces here in the Philippines thank you
Hi great video. Could I ask what ruckpack you have in this video
Make yourself a Weapon weight, I've been using one since commercial deployments from 2003, the concept works well..! It will improve, strength, grip and LME....
Yeah I need to get one mate be good for videos
how much of that is doubling, as a hat remf i cant imagine tabbing that fast lol
Hahah, I double about 200/400m of each mile
been there what water breaks
Hey I'm Kamali
I'm a Cadet and I want to join the parachute regiment.
Do you know any paras on youtube that I could check out?
Also great video mate 👍👍
Google the paras and instead of watching videos on them read about them, read about PRAC and P-Company
'The toughest army training outside the SAS'
The Paras, BBC Episode 1 1983 :-)
Toughest test? You sat the Chef course?! WTF?!
😂😂
@@CombatReadyHQ Has anyone passed it yet? How hard can operating an egg and shouting "One fucking sausage you prick" be?! haha
@@TheJpf79 hahaha no one passed that course in the 37 years I was in
Funny as fuck mate; good one.
I failed on the burning a pan of water test and was binned after issuing two sausages by mistake.
What watch are you using? Looking for a decent watch but there are far too many options
It's a Garmin VivoActive 3 mate, I really rate it
P Company was other training too. Me Da was and still is 3 Para B - Coy as in once a Para always a Para.I spent a my early years down in Aldershot in the 70's . He's 74 now .
Could you maybe show off you warm up/cooldown and stretches? Cheers loving the videos!
Yes I can do that
@@CombatReadyHQ cheers Craig you're the man
Got to get to the front otherwise you have to keep closing the gaps if you're in the pack and that can really fuck you, I seem to remember. It was thirty years ago, though.
You have to allow for your Waterstops as well, first couple of miles should be sub 10 minute so you can stop for water
Para 10 is a great event for para charity in Colchester I’m 49 ( ex soldier and still smash it although a lot harder now on the legs )
I’m non military and have just entered the para 10 tab in November as a goal for myself! Just managed to get myself a military Bergen from eBay and I’ve got it to the 35lbs, just got to start training with it now! Us civvies get 3 hours but I’d like to do in sub 2 hours! What do you recommend? Any tips?
Wudn’t say this is the toughest test at all
at least it wasn't snowing when you did it haha, nicely done too
love the outro btw, channel is coming along beautifully
looking forward to seeing you training a group on a weekend
How come you never attempted to join the infantry?
Just wasn't one of the jobs I went for, I nearly did years ago though, as I got asked to transferred to one of the Infantry Battlions
Craig Hollman You seem to be into your PT etc. Why didn’t you take up the offer?
@@TopLobsters It depends on what you plan to do in the future. Not much in terms of transferable skills with Infantry. A few mates who are Guards are thinking of retrading for this reason.
Just did my first ever tab it was 30kg for 3 miles in 50 minutes. Is this an alright first time? I know the paras need to do a 40kg tab in 35 minutes in 2.5 miles. I only weigh 68kg so 30kg is quite heavy lol.
30kg is a lot especially for your first tab I wouldn't do that, you need to build yourself< condition yourself otherwise you will get injured drop that weight right down but well done on the tube.
@@CombatReadyHQ thank you a lot for the help. But I am also wondering, do I run at any point in the tab? I can run/speed march 3 miles in 30 minutes with 20kg, but I don't know if I could run with 30kg. But as you said 30kg is quite heavy, and I know the army won't start us tabbing off with that anywhere near the start. I would just like to be prepared. Maybe I need to build stamina with the 20kg vest and see if I can pass that p coy test you did. Do you also think me being 68kg will be a problem? I think I'm too light weight at this moment in time.Again thanks a lot for your advice.
When I run 10 mile without weight I finish at 1hr25min but I’m doing it with 35lbs now made me 20 mins slower
That is some really good times
Well done
Done a few with a Milan post on top...blisters as big as pumpkins.
I bet mate
You sounded like a robot after that lol
Well done! good inspiration for those who are attempting this. Once upon a time the cut off time was less than 1 hour 50. How much doubling did you do during this tab? or did you just double when needed to make up time?
Thank you, was it? I double for between 200-400m a mile or on the down hills
@@CombatReadyHQ Certainly inspirational for the youngsters who are planning on doing pre-para thats for sure.
Great effort 👊🏻 Looks like you switched to the Virtus Bergen for this?
Yeah and I don't rate it after that
Craig Hollman and that was the Mk3? I thought that was supposed to be better... back to PLCE or commercial then 👍🏻
Great video mate keep up the good work, only came across your videos about two weeks ago with regards to joining, loving them so far
Thanks mate, good luck with joining
Craig Hollman I’m just waiting for the elections centres to open up again, I’ve managed to get my run time down from 12:50 to 11:20 today big Improvement considering I’m still 15 stone got a long way to go but your videos are making it more inspiring
🏋️♂️
Blue red blue
A fellow flett lol
Any tips when it comes to training for p coy? Thanks mate 👍
Train hard, get the miles and hills into your legs, no need to train with more than 36lb. You need the endurance for long distance running out to about 10 miles tabbing out to 20 miles but also the speed for 6 min mile runs. Ensure you train fo be strong and conditioned especially the core to prevent injury and this will also help with the events. But As long as you can pass the Army's Fitness assessments and show a willingness to want to pass P Coy the build up training they provide on pre paras etc will get you to where you need to be
Gut's n Drive, Gut's n Drive that's all.
Log race has gotta be harder surely
Agreed. My guess would be carrying a fair share of 60kg between 8 men for a relatively short distance is a little less taxing on the mind than a long winded tab carrying weight. Personally I can’t wait to do PCOY, the worst for me though probably stretcher race, more weight, less people, longer distance, after days of getting smashed lol roll on the grind
@@thiagohutchings5829 well the stretcher isnt all that bad, you do get to rest during changeover. But carrying that weight for 5miles is gonna suck 😂
Rite this man is all ready a fit man not a raw recruit, when I did it in the seventies, I was an unfit recruit we ate mass produced food not the sort of protein this chap eats, I'm not putting this lad down but I think he's he's got it a bit easier than we did our boot were like lead, tore your feed apart and when your carrying a weapon you cannot get your arms going which help your forward motion, I thought he would of knocked at least 10 minutes off the allowed time.
Thanks for the comment, bit that's not he point of the video I could knocked a lot of time off but it was about tabbing it out and doing it within the time of 1 hour 50 minutes and not as fast as I could. If you want me to do just then let me know
Haha 10 miler the Hardest test in the army try the 30 miler mush 👍
Already planning on doing it. 30 miles in 8 hours.
@@CombatReadyHQ not being a knob about it sarnt just saying the 10 miler is rats but the 30 miler fucks you up
🤣
Haha I know you ain't mate but I do have it planned to do a video on it at some point. I've done sosmgning like it before
@@CombatReadyHQ 20 miler in 4hrs 37lb not including water or food + weapon over otterburn
