It’s clear that Martin Amis‘ life has been even more wildly captivating as his novels. In his new book, Inside Story, which he calls a “novelized autobiography.” Amis returns to his great influences in his life- to his beloved friend Christopher Hitchens, to his mentor and literary idol, Saul Bellow, and to the great poet, Philip Larkin. And of course to his father, Kingsley Amis. And there are of course the women and sex.
This novel- or autobiography- which toggles between his real life friends and family, and the fictionalized characters who move his own extraordinary story forward, give us a most direct perspective, a most personal insight via a novel, into who Martin Amis really is. Amis knows better than anyone how to tell a great story. And his Inside Story is full of his searing wit, and wrenching tenderness.
Steve Martin. One of the funniest writers on the planet. One of the funniest actors on earth. A great musician. A wonderful composer and playwright. A television series creator. So why not tackle something new? In A Wealth of Pigeons, a book created with Harry Bliss, cartoonist for The New Yorker, Steve and Harry collaborate on one-panel cartoons and captions that are, not surprisingly, really really funny. - Розваги
Love you Martin, incredibly tender to hear you talk about your goodbye, you've been an incredible mentor to me for many years now, your emotional insight and wisdom has profoundly helped me, you will be terribly missed, at-least by me.
Thank you kindly for posting ~ i hoped this would pop up on UA-cam. ‘Inside Story’ was unstoppably great, a must for any Martin Amis reader. Much appreciated 👏
Just started reading "Inside Story"...I can't put it down. And what a joy this program was! THANK YOU!
I really enjoyed this. Got a little mad on Martin's behalf when you took issue with his wanting to go to the bathroom though! The man is 71! Let him do his thing.
..... love martin amis..... love steve martin..... had no idea either one of them even knew who each other was haha but this is a great video!
Wow! Thank you for this! Martin, if you ever read this, don't you DARE stop writing! I mean: please don't do the Roth thing. We need you.Especially in the UK. Well, London, If I may be more specific. Also: a massive BRAVO to Steve Martin for doing such an excellent job. And, of course, a big THANK YOU to Andrea!!
59:03 "I wish I had some explanatory essay about it (laughter)" every french kid has read Bergson's essay on laughter, and thenceforth becomes the spoiler of every joke at social gatherings. I hope Amis gets his hands on that one "Le Rire" because it's actually very interesting. Every philosopher has also written on laughter and comedy throughout the millennia.
Maddening how Steve doesn’t let Martin finish his sentences.
Great slapstick actor , groping for a new career. Tiresome interrogation ?
Lmao, it's Steve Martin, one of the brightest guys around, I'm 26 minutes in and I haven't noticed him interrupting, just being smart and probing.
Spot on Melissa
They’re trying to do this on zoom - i think that’s the problem.
Steve is bright, and pertinent, but the interruptions are tiresome.
RIP - very sad news
I LOVE MARTIN!!!
Holy smokes! How cool!
Many thanks very enjoyable
Long shot but: does anyone have any clue who Jed Slot’s meant to be?
Steve Martin makes dozens of very funny responses and comments during this interview. He should go into comedy. I once met MA in San Francisco. I said, "I can't believe you're not 10 feet tall considering all your big ideas." He said, "5 foot 7." I said, "Bullshit. Fucking 5 foot 4." He actually laughed.

Did other great writers have to endure this barrage of cross examination. Orwell , Huxley ,Nabokov? How tiresome demanding and debilitating it must be . If this great comic wants the secret of writing he surely has decades of work ahead ?
lmao wtf
if amis didn't want to be there, he didn't have to. i thought this was a productive interview, I learned a lot of small things about people that I never knew before. i agree steve shouldn't have cut him off as much as he did but overall i thought it was great
