    Thank you for the video❤ We apologize for the situation with the skin tones, we have already been working towards a solution for this issue. Actually, this is our first and limited trial batch. Unfortunately, it appeared to be different from the character art, because at the initial stage our factory did not have enough capacity and reserves to produce dolls as we originally wanted. We hope to present the new dolls in the nearest future.

    So great that you got to the bottom of why this new company wasn't able to pull off the skin tones.
    I was talking to my boyfriend about this and he was like, "why couldn't they throw the image on photoshop to at least change the skin tone to match the doll and create a new character that is POC down the road?"
    I was like, "hmmmmmmmm"

    I agree about representing different skin tones. Companies should just know this by now. Rainbow High shouldve done this with the reboot. But, it hasnt stopped many collectors from still buying them. Hopefully RH will come out with a 2nd batch with a black doll for those children who like this new reboot.

    • @teddychanfanatic1

      I think Sunny is black, just with light skin. Her mom is the head.aster in the UA-cam show (she called her mom in an early episode and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a "blonde" moment.) But they definitely should have had a dark skin tone in the line up so there's wide enough representation for everyone.

      @@DarhioVo not at all. I think just for children or parents who don't know the story, & are just looking for a doll on the shelf, Sunny doesn't appear black or any poc...she just looks tan.

    • @teddychanfanatic1
      @teddychanfanatic1 7 місяців тому +2

      @DarhioVo I can look into my family and tell you black comes in all shades and colors. To my albino cousins with pale white skin, blonde afros, and blue eyes to my cousins who have skin so dark, we call it blue black and all the shades in between. I have been around plenty of black folks to recognize my own, and I never discredit someone for not being black enough because of their hue or personality. Growing up black, I am also not ignorant of how reprensation for black people women specifically, has always been handled over the years to tell the world what is acceptable or beautiful for black people. Many times, when black women are heralded as beautiful or attractive, it always aligns with European beauty standards. Skinny, small/straight nose, straightened hair, and light skin. So seeing doll brands ONLY put out characters in this manner is disappointing. Wanting to have a doll that is darker to represent dark girls is actually needed. It's to let the children, the main target audience, know they are seen and they belong.
      I came to collecting RH during series 2, so I just thought that Sunny and Krystal were the black girls. I didn't realize there were valid concerns about diversity and series 1 until later, and I can completely understand how people were upset about it. Sunny could have easily been tan, an ethnic white character, or of another race. The show is the only thing that really confirmed her being bla k for many people, and thats if they caught it. A tan girl with straight yellow/blonde hair and green eyes isn't what people automatically think when picturing a black woman, nor does it represent the majority of black women. And when talking about the dolls in general, Sunny, Marissa, Kaia(sp?), Hart, and Georgia are all in a similar range of skin tones with different undertones. And I dont think theyre all supposed to be the same ethnicity or culture. The only other "dark" character from series 1 is Skylar and would not consider her black. Parents, collectors. And girls want dolls that look like them. Doesn't mean they WILL NOT buy a doll of a different shade or ethnicity, but seeing yourself represented is AMAZING and affects people more than they think. Just watch the videos of black girls reacting to Halle Bailey as the Little Mermaid. Parents want to see that same reaction or give their kids the same feeling when buying toys that look like them.

    I totally agree with you on representation in doll line/ toy line. When I saw the dolls initially I was like “Wow they are cute and articulation, I love it!” And watching your video with the box art I was like “Ooooooooooookkkkkkk that’s different 😅” I really hope in the next batch they follow through what they say. Btw love the hair color friend!

    One of my first dolls that I had as a kid and it was for years my favorite and I still love to this day was Ballerina Cara. This was a black Barbie doll and obviously I am not black. That is to say different skin tones is not something only doll collectors want. I think kids also like different skin tones because they like a doll that looks like themselves or just find different skin tones beautiful and like diversity in their toys. I know I did as a young kid. Maybe start with a smaller line like three dolls with three different skin tones to test the waters. I think kids, parents and collectors alike would really appreciate it and also could create good buzz for the dolls.

      The fact that the doll has a different skin tone than the art on the box is a deal breaker for me. I won't even consider these dolls. It feels like an insult to me that darker skin tones are a good concept but when it comes to production, we don't matter.

    I disagree respectfully with those who say "there is plenty of diversity" in doll lines. For years, without giving my age, there was very little or no diversity in dolls. We are just now seeing the diversity. I don't mind that there are dolls only in one skin tone. I buy all skin tones. I like the diversity. Its ok to have a preference, especially if there is a choice. So when a company does just one skintone, they may actually leave money on the table, intentionally or unintentionally exclude groups and it is important to appeal to it's customer base or the massives if a company wants to make a profit. Buy what you like. But please DONT discouarge diversity in dolls. Its been a long time coming and its so easy to just cancel that approach. Its just feedback for the company. The company can make what they want of it. We all want quality dolls. We all want to like the dolls. We all want different types of dolls. This particular doll line does need some work on better pricing and appeal. If the dolls in general dont appeal to people, most people wont buy them.

      Diversity should be the norm. We aren’t living in the 1900s, anyone who says that we have enough diversity elsewhere is getting a HUGE side eye from me. It’s a fashion design focused doll line, why would there not be diversity? as if fashion only has designers that are a lighter skin tone. It’s just crazy that people think that way.

I am happy that there's more diversity in the doll market but I am not the target audience for this. I value quality, creativity, and Value in my dolls. I loved the pixies dolls but don't require they look like me. Hi Elvira ,
      I appreciate your challenging position trying to be objective. I also appreciate this video was a change from the millions of videos taking about rainbow high slime dolls. The dolls are pretty. Another highschool fashion doll. I remember when Rainbow High first launched, there was a ton of criticism around the lack of skin tone variety, now they have or had I should say lol a lot of unique skins tones and body shapes. For me there is something way off about this line - beyond skin tone The box is a huge miss There doesn’t seem to be a real logical storyline other than highschool. I feel like this line is doomed . There isn’t anything compelling here( for me at least )😮

      @mydollyroom5389 If you mean in terms of face and body than yes I agree. The naturalistas dolls did a great job capturing different skin tones of women of African decent but we have different faces and body types as well and none of that came through with the dolls.
      However, if you mean in terms of racial diversity, then I feel you are missing the entire reason these dolls were made in the frist place.
      That being said, both the Latina and Naturalistas dolls could have done better in terms of culture. There are black girls from Japan, Mexico, Ireland, and so much more but the dolls are sort of just all in the same outfit lol. Heck, for a dollline that is about black natural hair, the hairstyles are weak as well. :(

    They could have went the safe route by making them all tan in the first batch since they are not that pale in the artwork to begin with. I feel a sense of frustration on several levels. 😄 That this is a first draft, you can perhaps forgive that they are learning as they go, but at that price point, does a consumer literally want to pay for the mistakes? I'll be blunt; the packaging looks like something from the 80's, the glitter border is not necessary and distracting from the doll. I don't like the font for the names as it doesn't add anything to the box presentation. If the hook is that it is a fashion academy, I think you need more than a few cheap beads to accessorize the outfits with, lace trim is pretty inexpensive and would be better for clothing than beads.. The dress form is cute - I bought 5 of them myself from AliExpress for like 50p each or something like that, so the whole academy idea at this stage is very much underdone. They could do more like a little booklet about types of stitches or how to create a fashion mood board; something about fashion education. Let's hope they take the feedback on board!

    Why release the dolls as a "test batch" internationally if they knew they weren’t able to utilize the proper skin tones. People outside of the U.S. tend to not really understand the issue with skin tone people go through for some reason. I feel in other countries, it’s not that big of a discussion cuz they don’t have as big of those communities. It’s very irresponsible as a company for them to try and release a doll overseas (especially to a country where race and skin color are a very BIG issue currently and historically) and not research the country’s demographics beforehand. Like did no one on the teams think that maybe having the doll be white… when the character is clear a POC might be a problem? It’s just kinda lazy, and irresponsible to me. Then, for the dolls to not be the best quality either? What even is the point of a test batch? Trying to make money off of prototypes, it’s just an odd situation in my opinion.

    I mean if they are being made from an asian company im not to surprised colorism happned. They tend to favor fair skintones over rich skintones and might have been thinking about the audience for their home country.
    As a dark skin girl though, This hurts like hell. Like every year we take massive Ls like this and we barely in 2024 and here we go again. No one learns...i hate feeling like no one cares. Cuz i really do feel they did not care. Or they never would have came out like this.

Its weird that their artwork was diverse and yet the dolls are not. I was a kid in the eighties and then diversity was an issue, I think mainly because of the quality of the colour of an accurate skin tone. But now, in 2024 at least one doll should have darker skin.

They decided that accessories and a second outfit is more important than representation. That’s the decision they made and I will never believe they’d make any changes without public outcry or backlash. A company starting off being publicly racist and colorist will never have my support so I truly hope these flop to hell and back.

    Not everyone is going to like this but when a new company starts up they are going to make things where there is the most sells, and it is infact not just white people that collect white dolls, sadly not every white kid are going to play with diverse dolls, but on the other hand there are more diverse buyers who buy white dolls. So in conclusion if a company is small and new they can have valet budgeting reasons, like "lol surprise" become more diverse later and if this line stays for a bit, I am sure the same would happen.

  • @kurtwoods7546
    @kurtwoods7546 7 місяців тому +5

    First of all, even as kid I never bought a doll because it looked like me. I bought a doll because it was pretty or cool looking. I agree there should be a range of skin tones in doll lines and yet I only hear about "Diversity" when it comes to a line of all white dolls. I don't see "Diversity" at Fresh Dolls or Purpose toys. Nope. Not a white one in the bunch. You can tell me about the lack of representation, but if one doll company is to be held to a certain standard than ALL doll companies should be held accountable and equally criticized.........

    • @teddychanfanatic1
      @teddychanfanatic1 7 місяців тому +2

      Both fresh dolls and purpose toys have black and Latina dolls in a range of hues, and their specific purpose was to create dolls that mirrored the various shades a d hair textures of black and Latina girls/women. The biggest problem with this doll in particular is the doll art advertises these dolls with deeper hues and makes it seem as if the line is diverse, but the final product is far from it. If they had made all the doll art in the same light/white hue, then the controversy may not have been as big as it is now.

    I really don’t think this line should actually be given any attention at this time. It’s just repackaging Chinese fashion dolls (which are better in their home market, but is also the reason there’s only one skin tone) with some new assets and trying to flip them in the US. Maybe eventually they will make something unique and amazing, but right now these dolls are not coming from a genuine original place.
    There are so many genuine original non-US lines you and others could look at and help support that are doing good things, like Nancy dolls or Sindy dolls for example.

    What I don't like about most dolls like these is that they all have the same face. Yes, different eye and lip color - but all the same eye shape, mouth shape, face shape. So 'yawn' boring. And WHY? Why not change the faces just a little? I think companies would find more buyers if they did. But that's just my opinion, and I'm pretty much a 'nobody', so... There is plenty of representation in the doll world of darker skin tons.
    Give them a chance.
    There is companies who make dolls of only people of color and lack of any other ethnicity.

      @@kurtwoods7546 I’m not sure if this was sarcasm or not but regardless I know many people won’t agree with me and I’m sure I’ll get hate. But all I stated was facts.
      Because if people REALLY agreed with diversity and the more then one skin tone… then they would also come at the companies that ONLY supply darker skinned dolls and lines that ONLY make African American dolls…but…they don’t.. so in words they are just against Caucasian dolls. They have no problem when they aren’t represented in a line.
      I’m sure this is a small company..they put them out because deadline..they will make money from this line make enough profit to then give you the darker skins like you all want.
      Also keep in mind they are a Asian company where things like this aren’t as criticized, while maybe they should have did more research since they were putting dolls out in America I’m sure this line was also put out in Asia so it would have costed more to do two different lines at the same time. While Asia was also probably there catered audience. The important part is they said in the email that they wish to do diversity. So let’s stop hating because we know it would not have been criticized had they all had darker skin tones and no lighter skin tone was included.
      I have NOTHING against darker skinned dolls and I want to state that here so people don’t get it twisted. But there are lines of only ethnic or African American dolls with little to no representation of other ethnicities. And I don’t just mean Caucasian I mean ethnicities as in all… Latina,Asian , etc.
      Personally I’d love to see more middle eastern and Indian people represented in dolls. They have the least representation.

    • @brandiakers1242
      @brandiakers1242 7 місяців тому

      If people want to be mad at anything people should be mad at the fact that our men dolls have very little ethnic choices. We have white and we have African American. Very little Asian. But we don’t have ANY that we can absolutely for 100% sure say oh that male doll is Spanish /indian/ middle eastern ETC…Our male dolls are lacking seriously and that’s actually upsetting.

    • @kurtwoods7546

      @@brandiakers1242 No sarcasm. I actually was agreeing with you. I do think however, that most doll lines are fairly diverse, and that "Adult" doll collectors can be a bit "Pushy" with what they expect and with what they want. I used to work for Horsman Doll Company, so I was aware what was selling well and what wasnt. Im sure times have changed but back in the early 2000's, black dolls just didn't sell as well. I have to wonder if maybe that's still true? None of us have any knowledge of a doll companies bottom line or what products sell the best for them. I think many new doll companies will try to play it safe with their first collection to see how well they sell and go from there. The thing that irritates me the most is how some doll companies (Like Purpose Toys or Fresh Dolls) are NOT held to the same standard of diversity that others doll companies are criticized quite harshly for. Could you imagine starting a new doll collection and having thousands of collectors tell you what you should or shouldnt do? It must be absolutely overwhelming.....

    Few things :
    Why can’t we see this as a released prototype dolls line. Did they messed up sure. But dragging them isn’t going to make them want to give us want we want .
    The doll community needs to take a chill pill and see a psychiatrist and a therapist (I’m seeing both ) but look what’s happening to the new rainbow high dolls . Look what happen to monster high g2 . Doll company are going to get to a point where they don’t listen to us and just make toys for little kids .
    Again because you have to be so WOKE now a day and say the correct thing because god for hidden a doll Karen comes for you . But I agree I would have love to see different skin tone but this doll company isn’t in the U.S so they probably thought it wouldn’t a big deal(which it is doll police Karen )
    Also, if I was in the company I would have simply said that it was an error and communication with the factory wasn’t clear and we are working on it .
    Also, these dolls are really cute and I may not be the target for it they are cute .
