We were successful in achieving remission after blood sugars consistently between 300-600 gave vestulin and low carb high protein diet...now 60-180 without any insulin but a low carb high protein diet.
Can u tell ur story about how u got ur cat into remission? Mine has been on insulin for 5 wks now, and up to 4U vetsulin 2x/day. He still has not gained any weight. He is so scrawny in this hind area, so sad. I test his BG a few times a week. And he does has gone down to 97 after 7 hrs after shot. But he is not gaining weight! I feed him low carb, high protein diet. I dont know if i shud drop his insulin dose or what. So sad and difficult to get this down perfectly, and keep pricking his poor lil ear :(
@@dezzy151 Have you considered having your vet apply a FreeStyle Libre 2 continuous glucose monitor to your cat's side? It lasts for two weeks and you can get all the readings you want, every day during those two weeks, without pricking his ear. I have it done to my cat twice a year, to monitor his BG. It's very reliable.
@@kevincancoupon Thank you for your suggestion! I actually went to the feline diabetes message board, and my cat is now healthy as an ox! He is regulated still on insulin, but has gained almost 6 lbs and is bery happy and healthy. I do poke his ear at least 6x a day, but we have both gotten really good at it, and i can do it without hurting him, he usually comes right up to get his tests and he knows there will be a snack for him afterward. I can't say enough about the help and support from FDMB! Also, i put him on Lantus, it is a hige game changer!
My cat achieved diabetic remission on Thrive dry food. 9.5% carbs. She refuses to eat wet food other that licking a little jelly from it. We tried a dry prescription diet for 2 weeks and it didn’t work for her. Her blood sugars were super high on it. We cut her dose down to 0.5units once a day on June 5th 2020 and stopped insulin completely one month later. Remission does happen, keep your faith. She used caninsulin. I pray she stays in remission.
I dont really care if my newly diagnosed diabetic cat doesnt go into remission, he is doing so well on insulin, the best he has ever been, happy, content and maintaining a good weight. I love him so much that I will faithfully administer his insulin for as long he needs. He get 2units twice daily, we make it a little bonding session, he gets a treat straight afterwards and he loves it. It takes 1 second of my time. I still monitor his urine glucose daily and am prepared to act quickly if the glucose levels test start to show negative but stability is the most important thing for him right now cause he has been so unwell.
Same here. My 8 year old boy tested positive for diabetes in June. Immediately put him on Vetsulin (same dosage as your cat receives) and within two weeks, he was back to the ornery, running around the house chasing lasers, full of energy cat I hadn't seen in a couple of years. My only problem is keeping his wet diet food separated from my other two cats' kibble. He misses and wants it so bad but I have to be adamant and keep him on his diet.

Feeding dry food. As cats will never drink enough water to make up being chronically dehydrated. Also dry food is always too high in carbs which cats have Zero need for...
Is there an update on this in 2023 ? Apparently at the time of the video the Glargine licence was out and also wasn't registered to use in non human patients.
6 months 1 unit twice a day glucose way too low, half unit too high plus chronic constipation in 13 year old male. AlphaTrak sucks and libre freestyle doesn’t work. WTF

Very helpful information. Thank you for this. My 10 year old diabetic cat is in remission, after 5 months on decreasing doses of ProZinc.
Kat C. That brings me such great joy & hope to hear
Kat C. Hi What type of food do you feed your cat? And how often.
Kat C. Also How many Units of ProZinc did your cat get. And for how long? And what was the decrease schedule?

im at the same point now after almost 1 year. i don't think he will go into remission, and thats ok with me. My Ares is doing wonderful now.
I care if my cat needs supplemental injections. I'm not sure why anyone would feel any different.
