The talking head format works pretty well for you. Almost like a stream highlight in that it's just your thoughts and opinions, but here you're less fired up and not distracted by the comments. I enjoyed listening to it while I worked.
802.1X is what enterprises use for authenticating devices to the network (Network Access Control, or NAC). Many enterprises go the auper easy route and just use your userid/password for NAC, especially if the Enterprise manages users via an Active Directory environment. The preferred/better way is to deploy a device certificate (PKI stuff) for the device to authenticate to the network (not the user). Hopefully, the X1E will support certificates, especially at that price point. Supporting EAP-TLS and EAP-TTLS (which BBL lists in the specs) usually means that the device supports certificates.
I like this video format. I also believe you are correct about this printer being an enterprise machine. You have to reach out to them for info or find a reseller. It costs more, but they'll probably have more warranty options or updated SLA times for service. They also had enterprise network options and a kill switch. It ticks all the boxes that the enterprise people were wanting.
If they are going after enterprise customers, while the networking updates are nice, the real reason enterprise is paying a grand more for basically the same machine is enterprise support. Enterprise needs support responses in hours or minutes, not days. Unless they're standing up a separate support team for E customers that's going to he a real hard sell given what comes up in a "bambu support time" search which some middle-manager will absolutely do as part of the acquisition process. Generally that's by way of renewable enterprise support contracts, not sure if they're spinning up a contracting group as well.
The price isn’t just about enterprise support. Bambu is leaving some meat on the bone for resellers. If you are a big company and willing to buy 100, you’ll likely be able to get that price down to well under $2,000.

International TRAFFIC in Arms Regulations ;) They have a physical switch on the AP board from what I have seen to turn off the wifi and ethernet. On the X1C, at least the update I have, the wifi turns on every time you restart the printer. LOL that zoom! it still would not comply with ITAR, since the cloud is through china. If you use Bambu Studio, or Orca Slicer not in stealth mode, info is sent to Bambu..
This might be a crazy idea, but I think they are also going for schools/colleges with that price point. Schools love seeing extraordinary price points for tech, so I think selling this at that price is going to pay off for them
That pricing, yikes. From a corporate IT standing, the E means Enterprise, and that also brings with it big and expensive budgets and I think Bambu is leaning that way, giving that it's got wired and pro level wifi connection options now.
Notice they are saying MSRP, since its Enterprise that means they'll be quoted out before purchase, so at the end of the day while it will probably still be significantly more than the X1c, they wont be selling them for $2499 in the real world,
Its like I always said - if the product is to cheap for its value, the income must come from a different source... the source might be YOU and YOUR DATA. If this new one is really local only - this income source is gone .. so you have to pay for the value. thanks bambu for proofing me right.
Wrt the WiFi killswitches, it could be the copper traces with a carbon bridge switch so when the switch it moved the data lines or power lines of the wifi are physically disconnected, HP and Lenovo do it in laptops a lot for their enterprise models with the webcam
Firmware upgrades on X1E still require internet connection. It's mentioned in X1E FAQ section of bambulab wiki. And there will be no X1C->X1E upgrade path (also in that FAQ).
This might convince my engineering coworkers here at Toyota to get a few. We have some Ultimakers for general use among approved employees and some Markforge printers for those of us who know the actual value of rapid prototyping. All of them are wifi disabled and our Markforges are ALWAYS in use. Time to put in a req lol
Filament lists were not actually the same, the last one for PPA-CF/GF, PPS, PPS-CF/GF is listed as “Ideal” for the X1E and “No” for the X1-Carbon. Looking at what other manufacturers of PPA and PPS filaments recommend the bed and nozzle temps achievable seem a little borderline but perhaps the heated chamber comes in to play.
Was also confused by that. Only because of 20°C more it now can print those filaments? Because these Filaments were listed because of 320°C hotend temp (the heated chamber wasn't mentioned in this point) So you only need an aliexpress v2 hotend that makes 320°C and your X1C is also "ideal" for those filaments
If that thing is really meant for an office space (considering it has all the filter stuff etc), they better include some ear buds cuz that thing is loud af.
It's incredible that after releasing a Prusa mini clone, Bambu lab has released an upgraded version of the clone QIDI, the X1E. For such a high cost and little update, why wouldn't I buy two QIDI MAX3?😅

The X1C lacking in WPA2-Enterprise support does not mean that the WiFi connection is any less secure. It just means that it's not leveraging Enterprise type authentication (IE - Certificate or AD based authentication via a mechanism like RADIUS, etc)
Paying $1000usd premium for an RJ45 100 mbps port, active heating chamber and 320c (20c higher temp) hotend, with better filtration is a little expensive for those features. Would've been cool if they released this in another year to replace the X1C at same price point. More than that though, I would like to see bambu figure out a printer with tool changer with larger print volume. Bambu could sell at a higher price point, such as $3k usd (so it won't compete too much with their AMS printers) while still undercutting Prusa's $4-5k usd 5 tool head XL
The security focus seems interesting. The marketing points make me think they took the community backlash about the cloud and security and decided that was the enterprise security way rather than seeing a bunch of home users that didn't like opening up their network. I suspect the truth was closer to the latter option. This might be a good start if they are wanting to get into the enterprise market but if they were actually trying to get into security conscious places there are a bunch of certifications I would expect to see that just aren't mentioned anywhere. Not really their lineup is p1 and one with a box then x1c and the enterprise version and a1 and the small one creakily is like ender 3 and one with bed leveling and one with a touch screen and direct drive all just different by one feature

Universities often use WPA2-Enterprise too. Mine even requires authentication on the ethernet - 802.1X, so it wouldn't work without a special configuration of the network port. I say the "E" is for "Enhanced and More". That's the first word on the website ;-)
I use a Bambu P1S for the small projects in the office. We are in no way shape or form producing items that are high-security, but we do produce a ton of quick tests and mid-fidelity prototypes with it. The only thing I want from the X1E is the Filter!
So, basically it's just brining it up to what the QIDI X-Max3 already does. I'm a fan of my QIDI X-Plus3 with the feature many don't have an actual chamber heater.
The X1E comes with the AMS so you would need to price compare it with the X1C with the optional AMS unit. Nero was incorrect about the X1E not coming with a AMS. I do wish Bambu would come out with a unit that prints at least 300mm and preferably 400mm size prints.
Typically the 60C is a limitation for the electrical components in cheaper machines. Assuming you have a 450 or similar those basic stratasys FDM machines are $140-200k. We're talking about a machine that literally something like 70 times cheaper. 60C is excellent, 100C is better. 60C is actually plenty to handle most engineering materials, stratasys needs some additional chamber heating because of relatively poor directional cooling of the machine. Not a bad design, just much more predictable which is what the enterprise customer requires.
I like these shorter video talks, I might start watching your channel again, I stopped as I build printers myself, and watching you build a printer after I've built a printer just made me feel even more exhausted :) I assume part of the additional price of this X1E machine is to compensate for not being able to harvest your data, not that they are doing this or anything.........
Love having talking head videos on while I work. Regarding the printer, it's a fair price to safeguard your data (IP). If I were running a business, I'd see it as a great deal. Honestly, I was expecting it to be around 4k USD.
In a word no. I am not buying this machine because I am not in an Enterprise environment. I decided that having multicolored filaments, etc is nice on the surface but... with all the waisted filament and time to change filaments, and so on. I just got an Airbrush system and I am currently learning how to use the equipment. Now, one could argue is AirBrushing saving and time? But there is less chance of print failures and the like. And Primer paint, etc. can help a lot in smoothing out ruff areas of a print. If anyone got a perfect print, no sanding needed off your printed except for a vase I commend you. You are doing better than most. I can however see a need for a 2 nozzle printer so I can use Water soluble supports. If that works well since I have never try water soluble supports and that would make a huge difference. In sanding where the supports touch your print and the setup needed to get supports to print just right. Which is a pain in the BUT. Being able to just drop your print in a bucket of water and have at least 90% of the supports good I think is way overlooked in printers these days.
If you look at the bambu lab wiki X1E FAQ and scroll all the way down they say that an internet connection is required to update the printer. So you either keep the machine on its original firmware or you just let it connect it to the bambu lab cloud to get the OTA update.
So…. My P1Ps with enclosures, cpu fan(for main board safety), aux fan and a little thermal tape can hit and maintain 60c chamber temp. For the price the QIDI X-Max 3 is far superior in every way for less than half the price and larger build volume. Even for "Enterprise" users the QIDI X-Max 3 with Klipper offers all the same network and security goodness. Unless you’re beholden to Bambu Labs for some reason there are far better options for far better prices.
Plus think of the cost savings of using a cheeper support material in your second print Head. YES, you can do it with the Bambu printer but you still have the time to purge the filament in a 1 head design.
Definitely priced for enterprise customers. I agree you don't need Gigabit, but how many more pennies would a Gig connection cost them? Enterprise items implies lots of network bandwidth needed. Why slow things down to save the cost of a Gig chip vs a 100M chip?
They're definitely getting their money's worth on all the manufacturing tools they created for this platform. 5 models using nearly same hardware? X1, X1C, X1E, P1P, P1S. Maybe they're waiting to recoup some more costs before they invest in the tooling to create a bigger version?
Speculation here, but this is gonna be only for enterprise, which will mean that ordinary people will not be able to buy this. Hence the E in the naming. It is very clearly marketed toward enterprise. also explains why they list "Contact Us" instead of pre-order or coming soon.
It's a backwards 3, X13. They didn't want to use 3 because right after I buy this they'll come out with the X2E and then the X3E. X33 would be silly so X13 is E^3 Engineering Enterprise Ethernet.
Definitely enterprise product and the price shows the cuts and compromise they made for consumer models to assure market dominace. This product and accompanying sercice contracts are we they expect to make the real money.
cool 1300 more for a hotter hotend, chamber heating and a filter!!! hahahaha Qidi Max 3 has that and is bigger and 1.5k cheaper. Qidi nozzles goto to 350 deg. My sock seems like silicone but im not sure.
So basically a product with some desired features that doesn't add much functionality to the 3d printing itself but with additional markup to suck enterprise-level clients. Seems like they want to make cash (nothing against this on itself).
I like the new format, just would suggest some wireless earbuds as it would reduce most of the virtual background artifacts that your current headphones create.
I like the format it would be nice to have these when theres 3d printing news. Sometimes I cant catch up on the live streams for a while, so this would be easier to hear your take.
My biggest issue with that ethernet being only 100Mbps is that any network it's attached to will effectively drop every other connection down to those specs, which will really suck if you plug it into a 2.5Gbps network... It's also 2023, pretty much everything with ethernet is capable of 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps, or even 10Gbps, so the lack of Gigabit ethernet in there is baffling.
I'm sure I misunderstand what you mean but from what I see, it doesn't make any sense. If i'm connecting a 100Mbps device to a 10Gbps switch, yes this device will communicate at 100Mbps with the others devices but that will not limit all the devices on the switch at 100Mbps.
This is the cheap machine that I'm considering for work. If I were to get it, I'd remove the wifi module and would likely use it either in local lan mode or keep it completely stand-alone. The regular X1 isn't even an option.
Eh, if I could buy the board and convert an X1(c) or P1 to off cloud operations, I might consider buying a machine and upgrading it, but... as is, big nope for me!
An oven that maintains 60c and has consistent airflow without hot and cold spots is worth $1000 more by itself. Do not underestimate or undervalue this if you need more functional prints. -a former Stratasys engineer.
Hey, Just realized that when you're looking at the website on a wide screen like a desktop, the images are missing (hence the black background). If you visit the same Bambu site on mobile, you'll see the missing images. (probably a bug in their site code?)
As for the Large Format... with how fast things are going, it will probably come out before the end of the year. So I'm not over concerned about that. As for this printer, meh, I'm not the target audience for something like this; so I'll stick with the P1S/X1C printers from them.
I love my Bambu X1C and the company for the most part but they let me down on this, I feel like its a money grab with marginal improvements for the price jump. Its a heated chamber but I don't see a reference to it being insulated (inefficient and potentially dangerous). They didn't even take it as far as cheaper alternatives that do 350c and 65c chamber from QIDI (don't play catchup to lower cost units, raise the bar). I don't see any references to beefing up the extruder or AMS as it relates to being directed at use with abrasive high temp CF filaments, need I remind you they say you shouldn't even use them in the current AMS. Its the same build size and overall frame, at least 300mm (even if it stays 256 on the carbon X-axis and larger on Y and Z) and it would probably sell like crazy. Would love to see the quick change nozzle system of the A1 be adopted by the X series as well. I was almost excited when I read about the heated chamber, had my wallet out, then I kept reading and thought some more and decided they really didn't raise the bar enough to warrant the replacement of my X1-C. I think I'll be sitting this one out until they up the ante. I did hear the CEO reference an XL in a recent interview.
Well that's definitely bad news for all us X1/X1C/P1S/P1P owners, 'cause it means we would never get fully functional LAN mode in ANY future fw updates. People criticized Bambu for making proprietary product, but up to this point, they criticized them for the fact itself without any particular arguments. Now here we have the big one.
@All_Up_In_The_Jimmy_Jams You're right, somehow i've missed the "LAN liveview" feature added in one of those recent updates. But still I cannot access the timelapses stored on the SD-card via Bambu Studio while in LAN only mode (the message "Not accessible in LAN-only mode" confirms this).
not sure about that chamger heater, I reach like 62 degrees on the regular printing ABS (sometimes a bit more) on a V2.4 350mm that has a nevermore + 2 added Bed Fans (Ellis' mod) No heater, just a bed and stuff that moves the air around.
I hit high 50's with my X1C and it stays at 60c after 2 hours and the only thing I do is use a thermo cover over the top window. It's in a regulated room of 21c with heating and ac so no its not just a hot room.
"Vibration and extrusion compensation ... can actively compensate" - is that really the same thing as X1C has already or some kind of additional A1-like compensation?
If this is targeted towards the Enterprise, I am curious if they will release an on-prem version of their cloud server for companies to spin up their own.
Different audiences. I think realistically no one is just going to rawdog their xl with the base 2 tool head config. You know prusa is going to make some ungodly expensive enclosure and so it's not really price equivalent, but they're also very different printers so basically I'm saying I think the person buying one mightn't be buying the other.

I like my X1 Carbon and AMS, but this does not do anything extra for me, at almost twice the price. I'll see how my Peoply does, that seems to be this years Bambu.

The amount of data they send back in log files is so disturbing. They get so much user data and that really needs to be looked into.

correction: we are not transferring STL files but GCode files, and it could be up hundreds of megabytes easy. Esp for complex geometry and MMUs

What do they even want to achieve with 60°C chamber temp? Our Stratasys Fortus at work prints ABS at 80-100°C and PC at 145°C oven temp.

I like these shorter video talks, I might start watching your channel again, I stopped as I build printers myself, and watching you build a printer after I've built a printer just made me feel even more exhausted :) I assume part of the additional price of this X1E machine is to compensate for not being able to harvest your data, not that they are doing this or anything.........

Love having talking head videos on while I work. Regarding the printer, it's a fair price to safeguard your data (IP). If I were running a business, I'd see it as a great deal. Honestly, I was expecting it to be around 4k USD.
In a word no. I am not buying this machine because I am not in an Enterprise environment. I decided that having multicolored filaments, etc is nice on the surface but... with all the waisted filament and time to change filaments, and so on. I just got an Airbrush system and I am currently learning how to use the equipment. Now, one could argue is AirBrushing saving and time? But there is less chance of print failures and the like. And Primer paint, etc. can help a lot in smoothing out ruff areas of a print. If anyone got a perfect print, no sanding needed off your printed except for a vase I commend you. You are doing better than most. I can however see a need for a 2 nozzle printer so I can use Water soluble supports. If that works well since I have never try water soluble supports and that would make a huge difference. In sanding where the supports touch your print and the setup needed to get supports to print just right. Which is a pain in the BUT. Being able to just drop your print in a bucket of water and have at least 90% of the supports good I think is way overlooked in printers these days.
If you look at the bambu lab wiki X1E FAQ and scroll all the way down they say that an internet connection is required to update the printer. So you either keep the machine on its original firmware or you just let it connect it to the bambu lab cloud to get the OTA update.
Price point says it all, it’s gotta be enterprise, the cost is likely subsidizing enterprise grade support as well, versus consumer support.
So…. My P1Ps with enclosures, cpu fan(for main board safety), aux fan and a little thermal tape can hit and maintain 60c chamber temp. For the price the QIDI X-Max 3 is far superior in every way for less than half the price and larger build volume. Even for "Enterprise" users the QIDI X-Max 3 with Klipper offers all the same network and security goodness. Unless you’re beholden to Bambu Labs for some reason there are far better options for far better prices.
Plus think of the cost savings of using a cheeper support material in your second print Head. YES, you can do it with the Bambu printer but you still have the time to purge the filament in a 1 head design.

Definitely priced for enterprise customers. I agree you don't need Gigabit, but how many more pennies would a Gig connection cost them? Enterprise items implies lots of network bandwidth needed. Why slow things down to save the cost of a Gig chip vs a 100M chip?
They're definitely getting their money's worth on all the manufacturing tools they created for this platform. 5 models using nearly same hardware? X1, X1C, X1E, P1P, P1S. Maybe they're waiting to recoup some more costs before they invest in the tooling to create a bigger version?
Speculation here, but this is gonna be only for enterprise, which will mean that ordinary people will not be able to buy this. Hence the E in the naming. It is very clearly marketed toward enterprise. also explains why they list "Contact Us" instead of pre-order or coming soon.
Bambu on their website now states $2500 price includes AMS.
It's a backwards 3, X13. They didn't want to use 3 because right after I buy this they'll come out with the X2E and then the X3E. X33 would be silly so X13 is E^3 Engineering Enterprise Ethernet.
Definitely enterprise product and the price shows the cuts and compromise they made for consumer models to assure market dominace. This product and accompanying sercice contracts are we they expect to make the real money.

So basically a product with some desired features that doesn't add much functionality to the 3d printing itself but with additional markup to suck enterprise-level clients. Seems like they want to make cash (nothing against this on itself).
I like the new format, just would suggest some wireless earbuds as it would reduce most of the virtual background artifacts that your current headphones create.

60 degrees is not enough for ABS printing. It should be near the glass transition temperature. Will be OK for PA (Nylon).
The best thing I can say about the X1E is that I’d buy it over the X1C if I won the lottery

My biggest issue with that ethernet being only 100Mbps is that any network it's attached to will effectively drop every other connection down to those specs, which will really suck if you plug it into a 2.5Gbps network... It's also 2023, pretty much everything with ethernet is capable of 2.5Gbps, 5Gbps, or even 10Gbps, so the lack of Gigabit ethernet in there is baffling.
I believe their main customer will be the Amish 3d printer farms. Most of them are still using 10M switches.
I'm sure I misunderstand what you mean but from what I see, it doesn't make any sense. If i'm connecting a 100Mbps device to a 10Gbps switch, yes this device will communicate at 100Mbps with the others devices but that will not limit all the devices on the switch at 100Mbps.
This is the cheap machine that I'm considering for work. If I were to get it, I'd remove the wifi module and would likely use it either in local lan mode or keep it completely stand-alone. The regular X1 isn't even an option.
Eh, if I could buy the board and convert an X1(c) or P1 to off cloud operations, I might consider buying a machine and upgrading it, but... as is, big nope for me!
It’s basically Active Directory (Kerberos/ldap/radius) compatibility.
An oven that maintains 60c and has consistent airflow without hot and cold spots is worth $1000 more by itself. Do not underestimate or undervalue this if you need more functional prints.

As for the Large Format... with how fast things are going, it will probably come out before the end of the year. So I'm not over concerned about that. As for this printer, meh, I'm not the target audience for something like this; so I'll stick with the P1S/X1C printers from them.
I love my Bambu X1C and the company for the most part but they let me down on this, I feel like its a money grab with marginal improvements for the price jump. Its a heated chamber but I don't see a reference to it being insulated (inefficient and potentially dangerous). They didn't even take it as far as cheaper alternatives that do 350c and 65c chamber from QIDI (don't play catchup to lower cost units, raise the bar). I don't see any references to beefing up the extruder or AMS as it relates to being directed at use with abrasive high temp CF filaments, need I remind you they say you shouldn't even use them in the current AMS. Its the same build size and overall frame, at least 300mm (even if it stays 256 on the carbon X-axis and larger on Y and Z) and it would probably sell like crazy. Would love to see the quick change nozzle system of the A1 be adopted by the X series as well.
I was almost excited when I read about the heated chamber, had my wallet out, then I kept reading and thought some more and decided they really didn't raise the bar enough to warrant the replacement of my X1-C. I think I'll be sitting this one out until they up the ante. I did hear the CEO reference an XL in a recent interview.
Price jumps helps cover the reseller's fee for providing extra support services otherwise no resellers would want to sell this printer for no profit.

Well that's definitely bad news for all us X1/X1C/P1S/P1P owners, 'cause it means we would never get fully functional LAN mode in ANY future fw updates. People criticized Bambu for making proprietary product, but up to this point, they criticized them for the fact itself without any particular arguments. Now here we have the big one.
@All_Up_In_The_Jimmy_Jams You're right, somehow i've missed the "LAN liveview" feature added in one of those recent updates. But still I cannot access the timelapses stored on the SD-card via Bambu Studio while in LAN only mode (the message "Not accessible in LAN-only mode" confirms this).

not sure about that chamger heater, I reach like 62 degrees on the regular printing ABS (sometimes a bit more) on a V2.4 350mm that has a nevermore + 2 added Bed Fans (Ellis' mod)
No heater, just a bed and stuff that moves the air around.
I hit high 50's with my X1C and it stays at 60c after 2 hours and the only thing I do is use a thermo cover over the top window. It's in a regulated room of 21c with heating and ac so no its not just a hot room.
"Vibration and extrusion compensation ... can actively compensate" - is that really the same thing as X1C has already or some kind of additional A1-like compensation?
If this is targeted towards the Enterprise, I am curious if they will release an on-prem version of their cloud server for companies to spin up their own.

@@hrdcpy not really. Octoprint is a per-machine interface. The server would be more for talking to multiple machines from a single point.
Don't forget that the prusa xl is $2500 for 2 toolheads which along with extra 100mm on the XYZ.
Different audiences. I think realistically no one is just going to rawdog their xl with the base 2 tool head config.
You know prusa is going to make some ungodly expensive enclosure and so it's not really price equivalent, but they're also very different printers so basically I'm saying I think the person buying one mightn't be buying the other.
I still wouldn't want a bunch of Chinese software running on an enterprise network.

I like my X1 Carbon and AMS, but this does not do anything extra for me, at almost twice the price. I'll see how my Peoply does, that seems to be this years Bambu.
